On the reading front, it has been a great week with some awesome book.
Title: Contagion
Series:
Author: Amanda Milo
Length: 129 pages
Genre: Sci-Fi / Alien POV / Romance / Humor / #read
Notes: I love reading Amanda Milo because her world building is awesome and her aliens are damned cool. This was so flipping funny and told from Simmi's POV. There is another book set in this same world that I did not read before this. Those characters are mentioned but I wasn't lost. I did pick of the first book and I'm really looking forward to it.
Blurb: One OCD neat freak alien.
One human woman.
Both are abducted and held captive in a very unsterile environment.
What more could go wrong?
~
Simmi: I’ve broken free and I’ve also freed the human who was held captive with me. But I don’t know where we are, and I don’t know where my home is. The local wildlife may be smaller than I am, and maybe they don't have fangs near as large as mine, but I’m still terrified. My issues with germs--and my uncompromising avoidance of all the things that I’m afraid of coming into contact with--is going to get me killed in this wilderness.
Thankfully, Aurora lets me follow her.
Thankfully, she seems to know the way out of this endless and inhospitable woodland and desert biome.
But by the end of our journey, she’ll suspect she’s harboring a contagion. I have no way to know it, but she’s afraid to tell me. Afraid of how I’ll react once I find out what she’s carrying.
***Note: This 40K, Standalone story is intended for readers 18+ due to romantic elements and adult themes. There is no cheating. There is one really germphobic alien. Thankfully, there's also a really understanding woman who is starting to fall for him. Spoiler: They're totally gonna have a Happily Ever After... just as soon as they can get off this planet that’s trying to kill them.
Title: Jacked Cat Jive
Series: The Kai Gracen series, 3
Author: Rhys Ford
Length: 352 pages
Genre: Urban Fantasy / Fantasy / Futuristic Dysphoria / Slow Burn Romance / #read
Notes: Picked this up on audio. Really enjoyed it. I love that each book has taken you to a new part of this world. I was also on Kai's side of "kill the competition".
Blurb: The Kai Gracen Series: Book Three
Stalker Kai Gracen knew his human upbringing would eventually clash with his elfin heritage, but not so soon. Between Ryder, a pain-in-his-neck sidhe lord coaxing him to join San Diego’s Southern Rise Court, and picking up bounties for SoCalGov, he has more than enough to deal with. With his loyalties divided between the humans who raised him and the sidhe lord he’s befriended and sworn to protect, Kai finds himself standing at a crossroads.
When a friend begs Kai to rescue a small group of elfin refugees fleeing the Dusk Court, he’s pulled into a dangerous mission with Ryder through San Diego’s understreets and the wilderness beyond. Things go from bad to downright treacherous when Kerrick, Ryder’s cousin, insists on joining them, staking a claim on Southern Rise and Kai.
Burdened by his painful past, Kai must stand with Ryder against Kerrick while facing down the very court he fears and loathes. Dying while on a run is expected for a Stalker, but Kai wonders if embracing his elfin blood also means losing his heart, soul, and humanity along the way.
Title: The Hunt for Red Fluffy
Series: Brimstone, 6
Author: Angel Martinez
Length:
Genre: Slow Burn Romantic Elements / Sci-Fi / Pirates working for the .GOV) / Gay
Notes: I picked this up on audio and I listened to this and Beside a Black Tarn back to back. Vance's singing voice for the millipede is spot on. I liked Julian in Black Tarn and loved the deeper look we got here. I hope they find a way to keep him. And seriously, the phasing octo-ship was awesome.
Blurb: Someone abandons a pedigree hellcat right where Shax can conveniently claim her and sets off a cataclysmic domino line of events. It's time for the other shoe to drop since the Brimstone has a shadow cabal after them—partly due to Shax's own, er, interesting decisions and partly due to the presence of Agent Julian Parallax onboard.
As ship security officer, Ness has a lot on his mind—a dangerous new pet, even more dangerous criminals tracking the Brimstone, and yet another unexpected rescued guest. The last thing he needs is a distraction and Julian, who confuses and confounds him more every moment, is exactly the distraction he doesn't need. Between Shax's reckless gambits and Julian's disregard for his own safety, how is Ness supposed to keep anyone safe?
The Brimstone and her intrepid crew do all they can to stay one step ahead, but this time the hunters are closing in.
Title: Double Trouble
Series: A Magical Comedy (with a Body Count)
Author: RJ Blain
Length: 206 pages
Genre: Romantic Elements / Urban Fantasy / #read
Notes: I enjoy this series immensely. And I might have gotten super excited for this because I thought it was a throuple romance. But, alas, it is not. It was still a great read.
Blurb: This novel is also included in Water Witch: a Dustin Walker Anthology and Other Tales by RJ Blain.
Layla, a recovering drug addict, reformed kleptomaniac, and general troublemaker, believes she has a one-way ticket straight to hell to go with her general rap sheet. Instead of jail time, she’s ordered to perform ninety days of community service.
Her job is simple: she must keep two unicorns out of trouble.
It doesn’t take her long to learn the truth: she’s been assigned to a dose of double trouble, and wherever the unicorns go, chaos and mayhem follow in their wake.
One wants to take over the world.
The other wants in her pants.
Unless she pulls out all the stops, Layla won’t escape her community service time single or sane.
Warning: this novel contains magic, mayhem, unicorns, romance, and bodies. Proceed with Caution

Title: Mask of Shadows
Series:
Author: Linsey Miller
Length: 370 pages
Genre: Fantasy / Contest to the Death / Court Intrigue / Genderfluid MC / #reading
Notes: I bought the audiobook when a discussion group had this as the book of the month to read. I just didn't get around to reading it until recently and it is excellent. I have a couple of hours left and the suspense is great.
Blurb: I Needed to Win.
They Needed to Die.
Sallot Leon is a thief, and a good one at that. But gender fluid Sal wants nothing more than to escape the drudgery of life as a highway robber and get closer to the upper-class—and the nobles who destroyed their home.
When Sal steals a flyer for an audition to become a member of The Left Hand—the Queen's personal assassins, named after the rings she wears—Sal jumps at the chance to infiltrate the court and get revenge.
But the audition is a fight to the death filled with clever circus acrobats, lethal apothecaries, and vicious ex-soldiers. A childhood as a common criminal hardly prepared Sal for the trials. And as Sal succeeds in the competition, and wins the heart of Elise, an intriguing scribe at court, they start to dream of a new life and a different future, but one that Sal can have only if they survive.
Title: Walk Tall
Series: Assassin's Claws
Author: Susi Hawke
Length: 134 pages
Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Gay / #reading
Notes: Sooo, I wanted to read the second book and picked this up first since its a series and didn't read the blurb. Oops. I'm going to give it a try anyway.
Blurb: Watch out for the Assassin’s Claws…
Clay Moreno is a paid killer, just like his four brothers. It’s the family business—they fight together, they die together. Whether they’re working as a group or alone, they are a tight unit who protect their own.
Clay drew the short straw on their latest mission: assassinate the American president. He knew the case was going to be tough, but the last thing he expected to find was his mate… the president’s own son. The fact that he began the case with plans to seduce his way into the White House via that same son is beside the point. What his mate doesn’t know shouldn’t hurt him…
Nick Jackson is lonely and ordinary in a family of overachievers. He doesn’t want to do photo ops for the press, prep for the next year’s tests over the summer or any of the hundreds of other things his mother hassles him about. All he wants is to relax after his first year of college, work on his tan… and maybe find a boy to flirt with.
This is the first in a new series of short reads. Note: While mpreg exists in this world, we won’t have a birth in every book. This book contains killer cats, ninja bunnies and a life-changing mating bite. Get ready for naughty-knotty fun and low-ball humor as only Susi Hawke can provide.

Title: Master of the Hunt
Series:
Author: Lisa Blackwood
Length: 164 pages
Genre: Fantasy / Centaurs / #wishlist
Notes: So I really like the cover, it was what made me stop and read the blurb. It sounds fun.
Blurb: In a land of three warring kingdoms, a centaur huntsman and a warrior priestess might be the only hope for peace. If the two enemies don’t kill each other first, they might even find love.
Seira of Blackstone has fought in many border skirmishes against the centaurs of the lowlands, but when she comes upon a massacre, it’s soon apparent the centaur and human dead weren’t fighting each other. They were fighting together against a third, unknown foe.
Toryn, a centaur huntsman, is following the trail of a group of soul-mages when he encounters Seira, the most exquisite female he’s ever beheld. She’s majestic, battle-hardened, strong-willed, and her sharp tongue fires his blood more than any other female he’s ever met.
While Seira’s natural instinct is to kill the horseman, she’s also swift to see they have a better chance of success if they work together.
But there is more danger than just an unknown enemy. As they come to depend on each other, Seira secretly admits she has growing feelings for her centaur partner.
That’s a problem.
As a warrior-priestess of the Moon Goddess, Seira has sworn vows of obedience, loyalty, and chastity in exchange for her magic. As such, her body, heart, and soul can never be shared with another. Not even a noble centaur with equal parts desire and tender longing in his eyes.
But centaurs are renowned for their stubborn natures, and Toryn plans to claim Seira’s heart even if he risks having the warrior-priestess bury one of her blades in his chest for his troubles.
Thank you for stopping by and reading!!
I love the Kai Gracen series! I also read the Mysterious and Amazing Blue Billings from your list last week, as it had been coming up in my recommendations lately- loved it.
ReplyDeleteThe Kai Gracen series is great. That last paragraph I was flipping out because I wanted to know what that sudden burst of creation meant! I'm in the middle of Blue Billlings and I'm loving it, too.
