What's On The Reading Radar #WishList #TBR

This week has been crazy busy. Releasing Chaos is rocking. Kenzie Cade and I have been editing Devil's Heart. LT3 sent me the 1st round of edits for Death Mask. This past Wednesday I participated in Archer Kay Leah's release day Facebook party (which I really sucked at but I learned a couple things, too). I haven't had the chance to read a book that wasn't mine for days because at the end of the day I've been exhausted. I have high hopes for the weekend. :)

TitleBurn the Sky
Series: Wytch Kings Book 1
Author(s): Jaye McKenna
Length: 195 pages
PublisherMythe Weaver Press (January 12, 2015)

Genre: Gay / Lite Romance / Fantasy / Magic / Dragons /

BlurbWhat begins as a simple teaching assignment becomes both an affair of the heart and a life-or-death struggle. Cold-hearted Wytch Master Ilya must teach headstrong Prince Garrik how to control his dangerous Wytch power--or put him down, for the safety of all.

Prince Garrik is the Heir Presumptive of Altan, next in line to be crowned Wytch King. There’s only one problem: in order for Garrik to be crowned, he must possess Wytch power of his own, and thus far, whatever power Garrik might possess has shown no sign of awakening. As things stand, it is Garrik’s younger brother, Jaire — a dreamer completely unsuited to wear the crown — who will take the throne after their father.

Concerned about the future of his kingdom, the Wytch King demands that Garrik’s power be forcibly awakened. Hoping to protect his brother from the burden of rule, Garrik allows the attempt — with disastrous results. Now, Garrik must learn to control the fiery dragon that rages within him before he destroys everything he loves.

Wytch Master Ilya has been alone for years. Learning to control the icy beast slumbering within him has already cost him his family and his lover, and Ilya will never open himself up to that kind of pain again. Summoned to Altan to avert disaster if he can, Ilya has no intention of allowing anyone to thaw the ice in his heart. When he meets Prince Garrik, sparks fly, and Ilya finds himself fighting feelings he thought he'd buried, long ago.

Can Garrik’s fire melt Ilya’s icy heart? Or will Ilya be forced to use his ice to quench the flames that burn within Garrik once and for all?

BlurbDenny Silver is just a normal college student living a not-so-normal life in the most haunted city in America.

Sure, her lover is a ghost, but in Savannah, that’s not what’s unusual.

What is strange is the influx of supernatural creatures roaming the streets looking to start trouble—with Denny specifically. To fight back against the wave of demons, she racks up one unusual companion after another––from ghosts to witches to demons.

In her search for answers to her supernatural problem, Denny discovers that she is a born demon hunter, and, no, she doesn’t have any choice in the matter. Okay, so being possessed by an ancient demon doesn’t exactly fit into her life plans, but somebody has to do it.

Denny must either accept the mantle of demon hunter or stand back helplessly as the dark forces destroy everything and everyone she’s ever loved.

At least she can always pick up her sword and chain whip to go kick some demon ass. After all, it is her legacy, right?

His teammates, who suspect his sexuality already, won't make it easy for him. But even with nobody on his side but his best friend Meg (who is even less popular than he is), the teenager finds answers and solace in an unlikely place: a 1901 book about a tragic gay romance in the bohemian district of Lutece, around the famed Moulin Rouge.

Coming up! Release Day Party #giveaway @ArcherKayLeah

I wanted to write this blog right quick before I dipped my toe back into editing waters. On Wednesday, May 25th at 8:00 p.m. I will be attending a Facebook Release Day Party for Archer Kay Leah. Please feel free to stop by and check out the festivities. There will be games and prizes from 8 to 10 p.m. (Check out the event here.) So far, the promotions group has a 10 amazon book giveaway going so you can click "going", invite others, and share the event to win $10 in amazon e-books. (There is a pinned post that explains that better than I have, I think.)

Anyway, I will be active with a couple of games from 8:00-8:30 p.m. I want to give away a couple of Less Than Three Press gift certificates (have to run that by the group, but I think it will be all right.) I'm also thinking about showing an exclusive excerpt for Releasing Chaos. I have to find something that doesn't give away spoilers. It depends on how the half hour goes. I'm trying to think of a couple of games that would be fun... *mind blank* Hopefully, something will come to me soon. :)

On a more personal note, I pre-ordered this book. How could I not with it being Fantasy / Poly (Yeeesss, more please) / Sci-Fi / Bisexual / Gay / ?? With Wednesday being the release day I'm going to be jonesing to read it right away. Which, it might be a good thing that I attend the release party first because after I read a book I love talking about it. I would hate to give away spoilers, you know?

Canada, 2165 AD. The Water Wars and a decimated economy have taken their toll. Anyone who doesn't live in a military-patrolled metropolis lives in a clan. But being in a clan doesn't mean safety.

And for a Ven like Roan Lee, it doesn't matter where he lives. Safety is a luxury. So is freedom.

Roan is desperate to escape the governtary's exploitation and torture. He is nothing to them but 54σK1, an artifact born from a genetic mishap. When the chance to escape arises, he makes a run for it—and encounters the lover from his past, twisting his future into a second chance he never expected.

As leaders of Clan Teach, Jace Ama and his wife, Cayra Diega, have enough difficulty keeping their people safe. When Roan is thrown to their feet as a prisoner, their marriage becomes an additional challenge. Jace still loves Roan, but where does that leave Cayra?

Roan didn’t want to go back to the settlement. They could run away right now and start a new life. Between them, they had enough survival skills to start their own clan—one without rules, where Jace Ama wasn’t the son of a leader and Roan wasn’t the unfortunate bastard of a lineage that never should’ve existed.

Roan Lee bit his bottom lip, watching Jace descend into the ravine. While Jace concentrated, trying not to tumble headlong into the leatherwood bushes and Queen Anne’s lace, Roan’s thoughts strayed to the chestnut-coloured curls at the base of Jace’s neck. Since they’d left the clan settlement, those curls taunted him, flirting with the collar of Jace’s black t-shirt and baiting Roan to touch Jace’s light brown skin. If Roan removed his thin pleather gloves, he could run his fingers through Jace’s hair. He’d done it before, the silky strands divine on his sensitive, fair skin…

“Coming or what?” Jace called from the bottom of the ravine. A playful, boyish grin brightened his daring glance. “Or am I wandering on my own?”

Roan stuck out his tongue before pushing off the edge and stumbling down. With a jolt, he stopped before Jace, pressing their chests together. “Did you want to do it alone?” Roan whispered, his lips close enough to almost taste the sweetened blueberries and salted rabbit on Jace’s breath.

“And miss out on time with you?” Jace rubbed noses with Roan. “Screw that.” He slipped his hand into Roan’s and pulled gently. “Sunset doesn’t last forever. Let’s just enjoy it.”

Because once it’s done, everything comes up pumpkin, and you’re the prince this beast shouldn’t touch, Roan wanted to say.

Instead, he kept his misgivings to himself and followed Jace through the forest. They trod slowly through the darkening shadows cast by the tall red maple and white birch trees. Above, crows cawed and chased after a hawk circling above the green canopy. A warm wind swept around the trees, rustling branches and kicking up fallen leaves.

Despite the beauty and lulling calm, Roan imagined the sound of waves crashing on rocks, wishing he could run with Jace to the poorly patrolled beach in Southampton and walk alongside the lake. It had been the kind of day when Lake Huron would’ve glistened brilliant blues and greens if viewed at the right angle—beauty he wanted to share with Jace every day, not just the days the clan was permitted to fish and gather whatever lay on shore.

“What you thinking?” Jace stopped and faced Roan, his hazel gaze locked onto Roan’s dark red stare. “You’re quiet again. Spill.”

“It’s nothing. Just thinking about you.”

“No, you’re thinking about us.”

“There’s not really a difference.”

“Sure there is,” Jace argued, toying with the longer strands of Roan’s dark blond hair. “When you’re thinking about me, you look like I’m giving you a lap dance. When you think about us, you look like you’re contemplating a kidnapping.”

“Now you’re just making stuff up.”

“Or not. Maybe I’m telling you what I want you to do.”

Roan almost choked. “Jace…”

Unable to form a better response, Roan cupped Jace’s face and touched their foreheads together. They couldn’t do any of what Jace said, even though he was right about all of it. Both sixteen, they were still under the legal supervision of Moham Ama, Jace’s father and leader of Clan Teach.
Leaving the clan wasn’t permissible until they were twenty-one.

Although in Jace’s case, there wouldn’t be any leaving, regardless of age or law. He was expected to stay and lead the clan after his father. Jace’s fate was connected to the clan’s, his future mapped out.

What Roan and Jace felt for each other didn’t help. While it wasn’t against clan laws, it wasn’t ideal for Jace’s future. If anything, it was a miracle they’d managed to have a relationship this intimate, comprised of stolen glances and secret moments purchased with lies.

Not to mention the inconvenience of Roan’s genetics, a problem they could never change.

April Reads #Bookshelf #SomethingToTalkAbout

Okay, So I was supposed to have this written and posted... yeah, a while ago. But Releasing Chaos was flowing so well that I kept putting off writing blog posts. Plus, my "new" desktop is slower than an iceberg in northern Canada. I tried the Blogger App but it's useless for this type of blogging. Sorry for the delay.

Lots of writing means little reading time but what I did read, I enjoyed very much.

Ann Somerville writes stories with gay and bisexual characters. Not all of them have a romance as part of the plot, but she does write a lot of science fiction/fantasy. Reading the blurb for Lost in Transcription I understood that this was a sci-if character driven plot without romance. As the story unfolds, we get pieces of Pax's background bit by bit which worked really well to keep the spoilers of the story hidden. I do wish it was longer just because I loved the characters and the world.

Light Years Away was a fun sci-fi story about a human who wakes up married to an alien. There was some miscommunication, plus Del was very drunk, and I couldn't feel too sorry for him. Del does fight every step of the way for a couple of different reasons (but I can't say because I don't want to give spoilers). Often Del was funny, but I felt bad for the captain because the culture clash between the two just kept going, and there came a point where I wanted to slap Del a couple of times. :)

A Prince's Ransom wasn't as angsty as I expected it to be. The romance between bounty hunter and prince was really smooth with the conflict coming from an outside force. The political intrigue was easy to follow and towards the end, the political nature of the plot became a bit too much for me, but was interesting and kept me reading because I wanted to see the outcome.

I read Three of a Kind ages ago and when I saw that it was being re-released, I bought it--again. Mainly because I didn't know where my first copy was. Butch and Randy are lovers and Butch brings home a wounded Zane (squish my heart). The relationship between the three slowly builds and then the smexy times begin in the last half of the book. It's still one of my favorite contemporary menage books.

I was so excited when Dragon Marked came out. I adore this series and with every book I anxiously wait for the next installment to the series. This one is about the human witchborn, Bane, who was adopted into the royal family (he's still uncomfortable about that) and the High Priest of Drakos, Jaden, who lost his leg in the last book. This series is all about stand the dragon status quo on it's head and shaking up the world. Now I'm waiting, again, for the next installment of the series. I can't wait!

Sniffles. Lone Wolf is the last book in the Bad Oak Boys series. I'm sorry to see the series end but at the same time I'm glad that it did because I read it to the end. I can't tell you how many series I'm reading that have over 10 books and still going strong. It'll be twenty years before some of the story arcs are completed. ;) This was a good series about four cousins born human but have wolf genetics that are triggered when the person meets their mate. This last installment to the series was more angsty than the other three because Shane's mate is the dreaded wolf-coyote hybrid. Their relationship is more rocky than the others, I thought, but I liked that they worked harder for what they had.

And really, Dragons again. It seems I can't get enough of dragon's lately. :) This is another four book series. Heat, Scorch, Ignite, and Blaze (in that order) caught my attention while I was on a mpreg kick. It's a good series but Blaze was my favorite because it was Ty's story. Ty is the twin brother to Wesley in the first book and Ty is in every book after that. Obviously, I loved Ty. When I discovered Blaze was Ty's book--Lordy. I wrapped myself up a self made angsty blanket and worried about Ty's HEA because he was paired with Ivan, and we know what Ty thought of him. All the extra angsty was my own fault because I imagined the worst. I had myself so worked up I thought I was going to die. Another reader told me they cried and... I finally got through it. I loved the story.
