What's on the Reading Radar #WishList #TBR

I set this post up in advance since I took this past week off to do things. We are moving across several states and I will be looking at houses. I have a couple of long drives ahead of me but I'm taking all the precautions. I have a couple of washable masks and I ordered several more. They are in high demand (some delivery times were 3 weeks out!), so I don't know if I'll have them before I hit the road. When this post goes up, I'll be back home as of last night, so the worry will be a mute point. :)

Title: Convincing the Alpha
Series: Hobson Hills Omegas, 8
Author: CW Gray
Length:

Genre: Romance / Contemporary / Alpha Omega World / Angst-free / Lots of Cutsie Animals / Two Alphas / Gay /

Notes: I caught up on this series before I left town. If you need something sweet and angst-free with lots of cute kids and lots of animals, give this series a go.

Blurb: Story takes place in the Omegaverse. Hobson Hills Omegas: Book Eight

Injured in the army over three years ago, Noah Wilson walked away with his life, but lost his hearing. It's taken him years and the support of his family and friends to adapt to a new normal. While he's content with his life, his family keeps hoping he'll settle down with a nice omega or maybe just, you know, leave his ranch occasionally. Personally, he just wants to park his introverted butt at home and spend time with his horses.

After seeing so many of his friends and family fall in love and settle down, Noah starts to think maybe having someone might be worth the trouble of dating. Maybe.

As a former Marine, Zed Ames is an alpha that needs to take care of his loved ones. He practically raised his younger brother and dotes on his nieces. He even has a newly discovered half brother to get to know. What he doesn’t have is someone of his own to care for and adore. As his brothers keep telling him, he’s a big, old nuturer and needs a sweet omega to take care of. Whether he likes it or not.

The longer he's in Hobson Hills, the more he thinks maybe they're right. At least partly. When Zed meets Noah, he realizes that he doesn't need an omega, alpha, beta, or anyone else. What he needs is Noah, the man that fits perfectly with him. Now, Zed just needs to convince the other alpha that despite their pasts, self-doubts, and meddlesome families, they belong together.

Author's Note: Around 46,000 words. This is a m/m friends to lovers romance with no angst and no cheating, just a HEA. While the story takes place in the omegaverse, both main characters are alphas. There is still plenty of mpreg included in the story through the secondary characters. 18+ readers only, please. It is the eighth book in the series and should be read after book 7, The Alpha's Christmas Wish.

Title: The Rebel's Mate
Series: Blue Solace, 7
Author: CW Gray
Length: 5 hr 42 min

Genre: Romance / Sci-Fi / mpreg / Angst-free / Gay / Audiobook

Notes: I have read the series, and I have it on audio, which I've listened to several times.

Blurb: Welcome back to Charybdis Station and the crew of the Blue Solace: (Seventh Book in the series)

Finn Sterling is still adjusting to becoming the lieutenant of the blue fleet of Charybdis Station. As an orphan on Cardinal Hold, he never imagined he would have a position of authority as an adult and the trust his friends put in him makes failure impossible. When he is given the monumental task to find a large number of missing Vextonians, he'll take all the help he can get. When Finn's journey brings him to his mate, he discovers that finding the missing is only one part of the quest ahead of him.

Aiden Crow has spent the last year consumed with grief and his search for vengeance. When he meets Finn, he knows instantly that the man is his mate, but what could he possibly offer the beautiful, smiling Cardinal? As the search for the missing draw the two men together, Crow realizes that the greatest risk he faces is losing his heart.

Crow and Finn must work together to gather information so they can find the innocent before they are lost forever.

Author's Note: 55,000 words. This is a sci-fi/fantasy, m/m love story with no angst and no cheating, just a HEA. There is lots of action, a little sex, mpreg, and a few potty mouths involved in the story. 18+ readers only, please. It is also the seventh book in a series that is best read in order. Read "The Mercenary's Mate," "The General's Mate," "The Soldier's Mate," "The Lieutenant's Mate," "The Engineer's Mate," and "The Captain's Mate" first!

Title: How to Elude a Vampire
Series: (VRC: Vampire Related Crimes Book 2)
Author: Alice Winters
Length: 336 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Gay / Humor /

Notes: I read the first book in this series, How to Vex a Vampire, and really enjoyed it. It has humor but a serious plot as well as a MC who wears prosthesis. This is an alternate world were vampires are out and there is some magic.

Blurb: Finn

When the vampire stalking me sent me a letter, I was prepared for my new life with the man I love to get thrown into chaos. But as the days stretch on and nothing happens, I become determined not to allow that monster to rule my life, and decide that Marcus and I will move on. We can’t always allow the past to haunt us. If that includes pestering Marcus and harassing my fellow detectives, they’d better learn to love it, because I’m not going anywhere even if they like to remind me I’m the only human working in a department filled with vampires. But Marcus loves me for who I am, even if he’s not crazy about the cute pet names I call him like McBitey. Being with him is more than I could have dreamed, and even with the trials thrown in our way, he never fails to make me smile.

Marcus
When Finn joined the VRC, I never expected how everything would change. Now that he’s the brightest part of my days, I’m unsure of how I existed without him. Before Finn and I can settle into our new life together, we’re called in as lead detectives when a body is found in the river, and the case soon hits closer to home than we anticipated. I want to be by Finn’s side to keep him safe, but at the same time, Finn’s fighting for the freedom he’s always wanted after being forced to live a life of fear. What I do know is that my future is with Finn, no matter what happens.

How to Elude a Vampire is the second in the VRC series and contains a display of manly prowess that doesn't go as desired, reluctant bonding with a new pet, interfering with a snarky Russian's love life, misuse of office supplies, a vampire with a killer fashion sense but very little game, a total lack of ancient kung fu powers, a feisty human who almost always gets his way and the possessive vampire who adores him.

Title: All Souls Near & Nigh
Series: Soulbound, 2
Author: Hailey Turner
Length: 364

Genre: Urban Fantasy / Romantic Elements / Gay /

Notes: I have this on audio and will be listening to it on my drive. :)

Blurb: You can’t bargain with death if you’ve already sold your soul.

Special Agent Patrick Collins has been reassigned by the Supernatural Operations Agency to New York City. Navigating his new relationship with Jonothon de Vere, the werewolf he’s now soulbound to, is nothing compared to dealing with territorial disputes between the vampires and werecreatures who call the five boroughs home. But the delicate treaties that have kept the preternatural world in check are fraying at the edges, and the fallout is spilling into the mundane world.

Manhattan’s club scene is overrun with the vampire drug known as shine and the subways have become a dumping ground for bodies. When the dead are revealed as missing werecreatures, Patrick and Jono find themselves entangled in pack politics twisted by vampire machinations.

Learning to trust each other comes with problems for both of them, and the gods with a stake in Patrick’s soul debt aren’t finished with him yet. Bound by promises they can’t break, Patrick and Jono must find a way to survive a threat that takes no prisoners and is stalking them relentlessly through the city streets.

Old and new betrayals are coming home to roost but the truth—buried in blood—is more poisonous than the lies being spun. Trying to outrun death is a nightmare—one Patrick may never wake up from.

All Souls Near & Nigh is a 104k word m/m urban fantasy with a gay romantic subplot and a HFN ending. It is a direct sequel to A Ferry of Bones & Gold, and reading the first book in the series would be helpful in enjoying this one. Please see the disclaimer at the beginning of the book for content some readers may find triggering.

Title: Flying Hard: Breath of Air Collection
Series: Santa Cruz Shifters Book, 1
Author: Marie Booth
Length: 214 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Shifters / Raven Shifters / Gay /

Notes:

Blurb: Ty wants to fly, but that possibility was shattered years ago.

Ty: I'm a hybrid shifter, a freak who doesn’t fit. My wing is damaged, so the ravens don't accept me. Pumas don't want me 'cause I shift to raven. I spend my nights drinking my memories away or screwing them into oblivion.

But the most glorious male wolf I've ever seen needs my help.

Dex is half-starved and rough around the edges, but I’m going to make sure Half Moon Territory gives this wolf a home. He’s been protecting us for weeks, from what I’m not sure.

He says he doesn't want me but I know it’s a lie. Yeah, I'm a flirt, the kind of shifter no one in their right mind would want for a mate, but I'll make this alpha wolf beg for me. I’m already begging for him.

Dex wants a home, a peaceful life and maybe a dozen donuts.

Dex: My pack kicked me out, my mate died in the Shifter Wars, and I've survived three years living rough. But I’ve discovered a new territory in the Santa Cruz Mountains and it may turn out to be the kind of home I've searched for.

Only this crazy raven shifter keeps throwing himself at me. Yeah, he's hot as hades and he makes me smile, even laugh, but I may never be ready to settle down again. Especially not with a shifter who takes anyone with a beating heart to his bed. No. If Ty wants to be with me, he's going to have to follow my very specific rules. Alpha rules.

On top of everything, dangerous members of my old wolf pack have been sniffing around my new territory. Looks like I’m going to have to organize the defense of Half Moon and protect its citizens, especially Ty, who’s teasing his way into my heart with every smile.

***
Flying Hard is a M/M Paranormal Romance in the Breath of Air Collection and Book 1 in the LGBTQ+ Santa Cruz Shifter Series. Marie Booth is a bestselling author of hot contemporary romance and spicy paranormal/urban fantasy.

Title: Magpie
Series: Forbidden Desires, 3
Author: Piper Scott, Virginia Kelly
Length: 253 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Dragons / mpreg / Gay /

Notes: I have this on audio and will be listening to it on my drive

Blurb: Reynard Drake, solitary cybersecurity expert and curator of the Drake family fortune, would rather be chucked in the midden than forced to bed an omega, but as the selected Amethyst candidate for the mating experiment, he has no other choice. Resigned to his unhappy fate, he takes solace in the fact that one thing will never change—his virtual rival, Magpie, will always be there to keep him on his toes, even if he has been strangely absent from the internet lately…

Diamond Disgrace Misha Vasiliev has a secret. By day he learns what it takes to warm a dragon’s bed, but at night he’s Magpie, renowned hacker and dark web service provider who steals from dragons in his spare time. His favorite target? Reynard Drake, whom he's only ever seen in pictures, but whom Misha wants more than anyone else.

And now, with a faceless threat closing in on his cloister, quite possibly the only one capable of saving his life.

Magpie is a 64,000 word steamy omegaverse mpreg-ish romance set during the events of the Forbidden Desires series. It contains pretty things hidden where the sun don’t shine; a scandalous screenshot or two; plenty of laughs; its fair share of tense moments; and, of course, “Beagle!” For maximum enjoyment, Magpie is best read as a companion piece to the Forbidden Desires series.

A new Science Fiction Romance from Angel Martinez

The escape pods fall to Earth one by one over the course of weeks, a mysterious and diverse alien diaspora, each pod containing a different alien race and leaving the world's governments scrambling to deal with this unexpected immigration. Serge Kosygin, still grieving and isolated after his husband's death, watches events with gray disinterest until one day he witnesses a pod crash for himself while driving home. Two of the alien visitors have died, but one survives, badly injured, and Serge is determined that if this alien is also going to die, it won't be under the harsh lights of a government facility.

Devastated by the loss of his life mates in their desperate effort to reach safety, the knowledge that Een is the last Aalana in this sector of the galaxy only compounds his sorrow. He wakes in an alien dwelling under the care of one of the native dominant builder species, a being who appears to share nothing with Een besides a bipedal structure. Slowly, with the help of his patient and kind host, he discovers they are more similar than he imagined as they share harmonies and his host assists him with language acquisition.

Their tentative first contact soon evolves into a deepening friendship, a balm for two grief-weary souls. They'll need each other and their growing bond for the troubles lurking just ahead.

Title: Earth Fathers are Weird
Series:
Author: Lyn Gala

Notes: the audiobook came out this month and I have already listened to it a dozen of times. Really not kidding on that number...

Blurb: Captain Maxwell Davis and his entire unit scrambled to engage alien ships over Iowa. The aliens snatched him out of his destroyed jet before they continued on their interplanetary hot pursuit. Then they informed Max that Earth was too far outside regular shipping lanes to return him to his planet.

So Max ends up in an alien spaceport looking for work. To afford a ticket home he can either spend 300 years working with linguists to improve the computer's questionable ability to translate English or he can take a job as a nanny for an unpopular alien. That way he can afford the ticket in four years. The problem is that the computer may have mistranslated the word "nanny" and there might be a reason an alien is willing to pay such a high fee.

Genre: Romance / Poly / Alternate History / Fantasy / Intersex MC / Bisexual /

Sam is questioning their life choices. Maybe it would just be easier to murder the idiots and leave the bodies in the wastelands.

But, growl as Sam might, everyone knows the hunter will do the right thing. And helping the idealistic human sovereign move his family member and closest advisor from Golding to Westhold is the right thing to do.

Too bad the raiders, hyena beasts, and giant death worms don’t seem to think so….

Tension grows, emotions run high, and heads roll…uh, literally…as Sam takes one more step away from their solitary life and toward actually caring about people—or terrifying monsters, whatever.

Author: Mell Eight

Still, he has a grandfather that loves him and a pack of his own to lead. The life he created for himself is not a bad one, until one day a pair of adorable cat ears derails everything.

What's on the Reading Radar? #TBR #newreleases

I thought that I would do something a little different for this week's radar and post May's book releases that I'm looking forward to. I'm probably going to break it up between two Saturdays to keep the post from becoming super long. There was a lot coming out this month that I squeed over. :)

Six months have passed since wizard Quinn Broomsparkle left behind his indentured servant shackles. He’s in love with his half-dragon/half-fairy familiar, Twig Starfig. He’s got a home. Friends. A job. And a father-in-law he could do without. A pretty close to perfect life. But as Quinn has learned the hard way, things rarely stay peaceful for long. Especially when a Starfig’s involved.

Summoned to his home realm and a past he’d thought left behind, Quinn and Twig find themselves in the middle of evil machinations . . . with no clear enemy. When Quinn’s younger brother, Zak, goes missing, it’s Starfig Investigations on the case.

Being the first wizard in a thousand years isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. On top of a missing brother, a broken-hearted red fury, an archivist with a secret, and a ghost pirate-parrot who’s determined to return to his captain, Quinn and Twig’s relationship is sorely tested when questions—and unhappy answers—about their mating dilemma are pushed to the fore.

All Quinn wants is his fairy share of happiness. Is that so much to ask?

The day Old Man McGregor decides to take a walk and disturbs her peace, Anwen learns there’s a lot more to the basement in the funeral home than a vampire and a handsome gentleman on ice.

What's on the Reading Radar? #TBR #WishList

So I skipped the Reading Radar last week. I'm not going to double up this week. I'm looking for fun, angst-free stories. Give me the sure things... LOL.

Title: The Arch Mage's Firebird
Series: A Kitten's Witch Story
Author: KL Noone
Length: 41 pages

Genre: Romance / Urban Fantasy / Paranormal / Gay

Notes: This sounds sweet.

Blurb: Thomas East was meant to be the youngest Arch-Mage in history, a magical genius and a solver of problems. But he hadn’t expected quite so many problems -- not to mention the endless meetings, bureaucracy, and political negotiations. So he’s currently hiding in a sleepy California seaside town, working in an ice cream parlor and avoiding everyone he’s let down ... until a firebird in need of rescue crashes into his shop.

Nicholas Incandesco has far too many problems. He’s a firebird, a shapeshifter, and a power source, and a lot of magicians could use someone with his gifts. He’s also technically a murder suspect with two magical bounty hunters on his trail. He just wants someplace safe to land, and the attractive witch behind the ice cream counter might offer a sweet refuge.

This encounter might be exactly what both Nicholas and Tom need to find themselves ... and rescue each other.

Title: My Cameron
Series:
Author: MA Innes
Length: 161 pages

Genre: Romance / Sci-Fi-Fantasy / BDSM Elements / the Alien Next Door /

Notes: Author's note says sweet romance.

Blurb: He knows better…but he can’t help himself.

Dating someone who lives next door is a disaster waiting to happen. Cameron knows better than to agree to date the sexy new alien that’s moved into his apartment building. Just because George is confident and persistent doesn’t mean it would be a good idea. It also doesn’t mean that George understands what Cameron is really looking for in a partner…a Dom who can push him right to the edge.

Aliens landing and asking for asylum was supposed to be the plot of a sci-fi movie, not a sexy romance that’s hotter than anything on cable. But maybe the Dom of his dreams won’t come in the package Cameron always expected. Maybe Mr. Right has tentacles.

47k words
Story Contains: MM sexual Content, BDSM elements, spankings, and edging.

Author’s Note: While the heat level in this story is higher than some of my books, and there are tentacles involved, it is very much a sweet romance at heart.

Title: The Consorts
Series:
Author: NA Moore
Length: 826 pages

Genre: Romance / Mystery / Paranormal / Political Intrigue / Royalty / Poly /

Notes: I seriously love the texture and colors of this cover. It's definitely not a short book.

Blurb: “For twenty-three years, these sheets have caressed the skin of my body alone. Never holding the entangled limbs of lovers or saccharine sweet kisses of a heat familiar to frenzied physical contact. This emptiness has held me firm in its embrace, soaking my bed with the loneliness that seeps from my dreams to my waking reality.
Soon...that will change.

For I am Prince Killian Innis, heir to the throne of Incubi, ruler of Astoria, and today I will meet my Consorts.”

Innocent and naive Killian Innis has spent his entire life in isolation. Allowed only the company of a few loyal servants, the crown prince eagerly awaits his Consort ceremony.

Twenty-five Incubi handpicked by the King will serve as his Potentials. Killian must choose five to be his lovers, his protectors, and his advisors. But within the palace lurks a demon, hidden behind suggestive smiles and compelling whispers, waiting to set Astoria aflame.

Killian must navigate through brutality, politics, family feuds, and broken hearts to thwart apocalyptic destruction...all while learning what it truly means to be King.

Title: Feline the Heat
Series: The Fireshouse Feline
Author(s): Lacey Carter Andersen, LA Boruff, Laura Greenwood
Length: 232 pages

Genre: Romance (Medium-burn) / Urban Fantasy / Paranormal / Cat turns into a Human / Mystery / RH / Poly /

Notes: This sounded fun and I'm hoping for lots of humor.

Blurb: How to be a Firehouse Cat:
1. Wake up naked in a fireman's bed
2. Stare at equally naked firemen
3. Find the local witches
4. Get lots of fuss and attention
5. Don't let them figure out you're the cat

And oh, yeah, find the person responsible for your curse and killing your parents. Before they find you.

No pressure.

I've searched for proof that witches exist all my adult life. When I finally get a lead and position myself to prove the paranormal world is real and right under our noses, enter three gorgeous firemen to derail my investigation.

If I didn't know better, I'd think they were purposefully trying to keep me from discovering the world of the witches, vampires, and shifters.

As if I could ever believe it didn't exist. I'm a cat, for whisker's sake.

- Feline the Heat is book one of the Firehouse Feline Series, a medium-burn paranormal reverse harem with a side of laughter and plenty of heat (and it's not just coming from the fire!)
