Pact Day: No More Topics #ValespianPact

I was planning for today's topic to be about the humans invading Aries 7, the GyrFalconi's homeworld, and realized that I had already given that bit of history on an earlier blog post. (If you haven't read it, you can find the post HERE.)

Since that was a no-go, I looked around for something else for Pact Days and I actually have nothing to give you. It's not surprising. The Pact Day blog posts started almost a year ago. It was inevitable that I would run out of material to discuss. Since I'm in the middle of writing books 3 and 4 of the series, there isn't anything else that I can write on that wouldn't give away spoilers. I haven't picked up a drawing pencil for ages, so there aren't any character sketches.

So... I'm at a loss, which means that I probably won't have anymore Pact Days. That makes me sad because I enjoyed writing the blog posts (mostly, LOL) but it also means that I need to find something else to fill this spot and I have nothing. I've gotten used to having three steady blog posts every week.

If you have any suggestions or topics you'd like to hear about. Just drop me a comment and I will definitely write about it.

I will have some announcements regarding the Valespian Pact in the future. I am working on something for InstantFreebie connected to my newsletter sign up. I have a handful of side stories about Zeus growing up with the Vondorians. I'm also going to be working on an anthology of flash fictions set in the Valespian Pact world. :) I don't have a time frame for them yet because I'm pushing to get Constant finished and off to the publisher. When I have something more set, I'll have another post about it.

In the meantime, I wanted to thank you for hanging out with me on Thursdays. I really appreciated it. <3

Thank you for stopping by and reading!!

What's on the Reading Radar? #WishList $TBR

What am I doing? The computer went down and I had to take it in for repair. In the meantime, I've been working on Constant (The Valespian Pact, 3). My goal is to get it finished by the end of the month and I already feel the 30th breathing down my neck like a fire dragon. LOL! The manuscript is currently at 111k and I'm working on a new chapter. That's been the process: edit, rewrite, delete chapter and write a new one, then add new content/scenes. After this new chapter, I'm considering deleting the next one. I've been scanning it for anything that can stay but it doesn't look promising.

For reading, well there are a couple of books that I'm reading at the same time. I have noticed that I'm stopping around the 70% mark because I don't want the story to end... or I'm afraid that the story will stop at a cliffhanger. The cliffhanger book happened last week and I wasn't expecting it and now I'm a little apprehensive about at least that one series.

Title: Kill the Queen
Series: (A Crown of Shards Novel Book 1)
Author(s): Jennifer Estep
Length: 480 pages
Publisher: Harper Voyager (October 2, 2018)

Genre: Fantasy / Magic / Political Intrigue / Some Romantic Elements /

Notes: I'm reading this one currently (audiobook) and have really enjoyed it. The MC at times has been too cynical but considering what her life was like, it's understandable though I wanted to smack her a time or two.

Blurb: Gladiator meets Game of Thrones: a royal woman becomes a skilled warrior to destroy her murderous cousin, avenge her family, and save her kingdom in this first entry in a dazzling fantasy epic from the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Elemental Assassin series—an enthralling tale that combines magic, murder, intrigue, adventure, and a hint of romance.

In a realm where one’s magical power determines one’s worth, Lady Everleigh’s lack of obvious ability relegates her to the shadows of the royal court of Bellona, a kingdom steeped in gladiator tradition. Seventeenth in line for the throne, Evie is nothing more than a ceremonial fixture, overlooked and mostly forgotten.

But dark forces are at work inside the palace. When her cousin Vasilia, the crown princess, assassinates her mother the queen and takes the throne by force, Evie is also attacked, along with the rest of the royal family. Luckily for Evie, her secret immunity to magic helps her escape the massacre.

Forced into hiding to survive, she falls in with a gladiator troupe. Though they use their talents to entertain and amuse the masses, the gladiators are actually highly trained warriors skilled in the art of war, especially Lucas Sullivan, a powerful magier with secrets of his own. Uncertain of her future—or if she even has one—Evie begins training with the troupe until she can decide her next move.

But as the bloodthirsty Vasilia exerts her power, pushing Bellona to the brink of war, Evie’s fate becomes clear: she must become a fearsome gladiator herself . . . and kill the queen.

Title: A Vampire's Heart

Length: 399 pages
Publisher: Kiss Drunk Books (November 13, 2018)

Genre: Mystery / Paranormal / Romantic Elements / Dystopia / Gay /

Notes:

Blurb: Vampires live.

And they hunger…

Otto Jones, a cop assigned to the seemingly random murder of a vampire, would rather hide out in the nearest bar than waste his time on a dead vamp. He hates the bloodthirsty demons. But when the king of the vampires commands him to work with one of the lesser princes and find the killer, he has no choice.

Prince Jessamine Senera is ready to sacrifice his happiness in a loveless marriage for his family’s benefit… but not yet. He dreams of adventure, excitement, and true love. He lives on romance novels and detective stories and wishes he could drink synthetic blood like every other vampire. But he can’t. He needs human blood to survive and is hated by vampires and humans alike.

As Otto and Jessa draw closer to an entity that doesn’t want to be discovered, Otto finds the heart he thought long dead opening to the romance-loving Jessa. No good can possibly come from falling in love with a vampire, but when a shadowy assailant attacks Jessa, Otto will descend into the darkest pit of the earth to rescue him.

If you like vampires, mythical and urban settings, intense suspense, and happy ever after, then you’ll love this first book in the dark and mysterious Ellowyn Found trilogy!

A Vampire’s Heart is a stand-alone paranormal dystopian noir romance with a satisfying conclusion to the love story and a central mystery that weaves the trilogy together.

Title: Bond
Series: Forbidden Desires, 2
Author(s): Piper Scot, Virginia Kelly
Length: 306 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Omegaverse / Paranormal / Dragons /

Notes: The first book of this series was awesome. I fell in love with Harry and this is his story. I love it just as much. Great series.

Blurb: Adorably naive and shockingly brilliant Harrison Lessardi only needs two things in life: his pet iguana, Steve, and his undying love of science. That is until he witnesses his best friend lay eggs, and a third must-have strolls into his apartment—the sardonic and mischievous Everard Drake.

Everard Drake, celebrated doctor of the tremendously wealthy Drake family, has one goal in mind when he arrives at the scene of his youngest brother’s latest disaster: incinerate Harrison Lessardi. Unfortunately for Everard, the moment he spots Harry, incineration becomes an impossibility—he must have the gorgeous beta as his own, even if it means holding him captive on his estate.

But something else lurks behind Everard’s interest in Harry—something that tugs at Everard’s soul in impossible ways, and that will send Everard and Harry down a rabbit hole of discovery that will change the world as they know it.

An alpha and a beta can’t share a bond.

Can they?

Bond is a 78,000 word steamy omegaverse mpreg-ish romance that will leave you in stitches. It contains an unexpectedly consensual kidnapping; giant magical lizards; an iguana with a full wardrobe named Steve; never-ending nicknames; and a HEA that may, or may not involve mosquito nets. For maximum enjoyment, Bond is best read following the events of Clutch.

Title: The Serpent's Mate
Series: (Iriduan Test Subjects Book 3)
Author(s): Susan Trombley
Length: 277 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Aliens / Sci-Fi /

Notes: I have not read this series or heard of it before I saw this cover and snagged it because I needed to know more. It sounds like it can be read as a standalone but now I'm caught. The first book is titled the Scorpion Mate and the second is The Kraken's Mate. I love trying out Sci-Fi alien romances, and these aren't the typical 'aliens' with strange colored skin but look human. They are on KU so I'm going to give the series a go.

Blurb: When Cass is abducted by aliens and sold to an alien pirate queen who collects female slaves to harvest their pheromones, her first experience with extraterrestrials quickly turns from surreal into a nightmare, which only grows more terrifying when an alien with a snake-like lower body and a surprisingly handsome face comes to her rescue. But Cass isn’t sure she’s actually safe with him, because he looks at her with hunger in his eyes.

Nahash has always been a loyal, honorable Iriduan soldier. After distinguishing himself above his peers, the genetically-enhanced warrior volunteered for an experimental program to create a hybrid with powerful psionic abilities, using DNA taken from a giant serpent that decimated one of their outer colonies. Though his body changed into a form beyond the scientists’ expectations, his mind became a weapon that could alter the very course of Iriduan civilization, perhaps even saving it from its inevitable ruin.

After such drastic alterations to his biology, scientists told him he was free from the affliction that caused Iriduan males to imprint on a single female, bonding him to her for life. The last thing he expects is to bond instantly to a human female he rescues during a raid on a pirate colony. Now, he’s stuck with her, because if he isn’t exposed to his mate’s scent on a regular basis, he will die. The fact that his body craves her as much as it needs her fills him with resentment, but when he realizes that the Iriduan Empire will do anything to keep her under their control because of what she means to him, he doesn’t hesitate to protect his mate—even if it means betraying his people.

The rogue test subject and the abducted human make a desperate escape from the Iriduan Empire, but the galaxy proves to be a dangerous place and there are worse things than the Iriduans waiting in the darkness of space. With no one to rely on except for each other, Nahash and Cass might not live long enough to find a home where they can settle down and explore the love that grows between them—love that takes them beyond their physical bond.

Author’s Note: 18+ Contains steamy scenes between a human heroine and a very alien hero.

Title: Infinite Blue
Series:
Author(s): Natalina Reis
Length: 218 pages
Publisher: Hot Tree Publishing (September 8, 2018)

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Gay /

Notes: I'm sorta of excited that this seems to be about avian shifters.

Blurb: When a shifter and a human are bound by fate, neither man knows if their connection will be enough to save not only their growing love, but their lives.

Shahin Halcón has been taught that if and when he meets his soul mate, he’ll know immediately. Always the rebel, he doesn’t believe it until the day he crosses paths with Cai, a full-human.

Plagued by unsuccessful relationships and heartache, Cai Banes’s life is quiet and unexciting. When he meets young and wild Shahin, his life is turned upside down, and he's not sure he likes it.

But neither can deny the powerful pull that draws them together.

Old secrets and ancient myths about cross-species relationships plague their romance and threaten to put their happiness and life at risk. Will their love for each other be strong enough to survive?

Title: Fated Heroes
Series: The Consequence of Destiny Book 1
Author(s): Brittany Cournoyer
Length: 170 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Magic / Gay / Mystery / Action-Adventure /

Notes:

Blurb: What do you do when the life that you know ceases to exist? When a typical night with your friends turns into a night of horror instead? A night that proves that monsters are real and your life will be forever changed? That’s exactly what happens to four friends when they go from watching movies to fighting for their lives.

Michael, Kimberly, Nick, and Courtney are four normal adults, enjoying a night of leisure when a scratch on the sliding glass door catapults them into a world made for movies and books. Pretty soon they are forced to face things that nightmares are made of. Only, this time the nightmares are real.

After a visit to a family member’s house, the foursome is given a journal that was made for them more than two centuries before. A journal that has their destiny written down. Armed with the journal, family secrets, and the help of two unexpected people, the group embarks on a mission to try to save not only a few dozen gifted people, but all of mankind as well.

Will they be able to save everyone, including themselves? Or will this life they were fated to live be too much for the group to handle? Could the two special men that join the foursome turn out to be the men of Michael and Nick’s dreams? Even with special gifts of their own, it’s easier to fight the monster under the bed when it’s just a dream instead of a reality.

Fated Heroes is an exciting adventure filled with magic, lots of friendship, and maybe even a little bit of love between two male characters. Follow this amazing group of friends on the first part of their journey in Book One of the Consequence of Destiny series

Title: His Consort
Series:
Author(s): Mary Calmes
Length: 284 pages
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press (November 20, 2018)

Genre: Romantic Elements / Paranormal / Vampires /

Notes: I'm almost finished with this. It reads like it is the first book of the series but there isn't a series title.

Blurb: A new life in New Orleans is all Jason Thorpe had hoped: his quaint little store attracts a devoted staff and his warm, loving heart grants him a loyal circle of friends. He's perfectly content, having left behind the chill of a confusing and danger-filled night in Washington, until he discovers something unbelievable lurking in the steamy darkness of the shadowy streets of the Vieux Carré, something that turns out to be terrifying... and utterly mesmerizing.

Varic may want to bring Jason safely into his world, but someone who doesn’t like the human's soothing influence on vampyrs has deadly plans that would disrupt Varic's dreams. Title: Secrets Revealed
Series: Dragon War Chronicles, 2
Author(s): AG Carothers
Length: 167 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romantic Elements / Alternate World / Paranormal / Dragons / Shifters / Bisexual / Gay / MF / MM / MFM / Poly Relationship /

Notes: The first book ends with a cliffhanger but since I barely read the blurb, the HUGE cliff hanger took me by surprise. But this one was out so I jumped right over. This one does not give the cliffhanger warning. I'm about 2/3 way through. I say poly relationship instead of romance because it's just that. She has several lovers in her group and they all love each other have sex but it is not an active romance. It's more of an action-adventure with sex and romantic elements. Lots of dragon intrigue and the male dragons are real @ssholes.

Blurb: Last time on Dragon War Chronicles, we left our heroes fighting for their lives in the midst of battle...

Kollin races against time to get samples of the weapon used in Canada to their lab in Oslo. Kenshin races to get Danica back home in time to save her, Aiden and Xander. Danica's allies start to converge in Toulouse in aide and help to prepare for what may come.

Will Kollin be able to help save Danica, Aiden, and Xander before all is lost? Will Matt be able to track down who's responsible for a new weapon that threatens them all? What will happen when Danica's biggest secret is revealed?

Secrets are revealed that will change the future for all dragon and SLIP kind alike.

Warning: This book contains explicit sexual situations that are MM, MF, and MMMF. There are romantic relationships displayed that are MM and some depictions of loving and consensual BDSM relationships. There are also bad puns, a game of tag with an invisible dragon, and lions, jaguars, and bears. Oh my!

What am I doing? Well, trying to get through Constant so that I can move on to something else. Burning out on the book a bit and need to change gears soon. I've been having trouble finding books that keep my interest, too. (See above statement on burning out. It sort of affects other stuff.) But I keep looking!

Sean

After being hired for my dream job, I move back to the small minded town where I grew up, for the job and to finish my degree.
I’m surrounded by my past, by old classmates, old neighbourhoods and old prejudices against gay people.

But on my first day back, my eyes fall on something new around here. A goth guy sitting at the front of the class and I can’t keep my eyes off him.

Even though I don’t know him, I feel like I need to protect him, no matter what.

Jules

I can’t stay in the same place for too long. People start to notice that you don’t age, that you don’t get older, and add to that that the chance of vampire hunters finding you gets bigger the longer you stay…

I know that I’m running out of time in this town. I need to move on. I just need to finish my degree and then I can leave and start over somewhere else.

But when my housemate/blood donor turns on me and forces me to leave, I suddenly find myself asking for help from the new guy in our class.

Leaving doesn’t look as appealing anymore…

This is the full collection of novels about vampire Jules and human Sean in the The Vampire’s Pastseries. This includes His to Protect, His to Guard and His to Rescue.

It takes place in a world of all sorts of creatures, vampires, werewolves, mages and, of course, humans, but there are also hunters, trying to rid the world of the un-humans.

After a blistering brawl between Blake and Davos, Davos leaves Blake, because he isn’t ready to forgive him, and most shockingly of all, he says he isn’t sure he even wants to.

Blake is frightened and hurt by his actions, but terribly angry. He follows the king back to Tygeria, if only because Davos had the gall to take their two younger children with him when he left. His ship is slower than the king’s, though, and when he arrives back on Tygeria, he finds the king has left again, on a wild chase after his errant son and his pirate mate. Even worse, he makes a unilateral decision to send their son Larz to a faraway planet for military training, against Blake’s express wishes.

When Davos, Derrick and Larz all go suddenly missing, Blake attempts a rescue mission, but encounters a strange wormhole in space, and is flung through it to crash on an unknown planet called Tveir. Strangest of all the planet is populated by Tygerians and their handsome king. Injured and disoriented, Blake begins to feel as if he’s trapped in some crazy story. Except this isn’t any kind of story at all—this is Blake’s life, and the plot has just taken an unexpected, heartbreaking and totally infuriating twist.

Pact Days: Artificial Intelligence - Fetiene #ValespianPact

Welcome back to Pact Day!

Today's topic is artificial intelligence and the Terren government.

The Terrens had artificial intelligent aides long before they discovered the mutations among some of the offworld colonist. (The mutants were last week's topic and the post can be found here.) When they were expanding their influence deeper into the Milky Way, Terrens ran into other civilizations as they explored and colonized other areas of space and clashed with those beings.

I pulled some things from the colonization of the Americas. Many times, the people who met with natives made agreements, and sometimes treaties, with tribes who had no authority to do so. When representatives of the government were sent, the treaties dignitaries returned with were later ignored by governments for many reasons but mostly because it didn't give the governments the power (land/area) that they wanted. Historically, this has happened all over the over with different countries and cultures. Governments were/are experts at getting out things they don't want to do or regulations they don't want to comply with. Many times, if the opposing force didn't have the power (or some other bargaining chip) to force compliance, they were out of luck. So much of history was written by the "might makes right" groups. There were all kinds of land/power grabs throughout history: The Crusades, the Roman Empire, the military exploits of Alexander the Great, the Ottoman Empire, The Great Khan of the Mongolian Empire, and there are more but I only needed examples of land grabs that used military might instead of diplomacy.

Duplicating this history to the spacefaring future wasn't hard to imagine.  When I asked the question, "What would Terrens do if they encountered other civilizations?" the answers were pulled from human history. If the civilization had something that Terrens wanted but couldn't trade for, was that civilization of similar or lesser technologically? If yes, then Terrens would attempt to take want they wanted. The public opinion on sending people into a distant war was volatile. This is where the use of AI soldiers came into play.

At that time in Terren development, Terrens were careful with producing AIs, following early laws on the production of machines that needed little to no human oversight. But with the wars caused by expansion and acquisition of resources, as well as the loss of the mutant army the government had invested in, they thought that sending AIs along with drones to 'vanquish' the opposition would be a good idea.

So after spending ten years attempting to take Gaia back from the Erdaians, Terrens revisiting the restrictive laws and redacted them. Thus began the mass manufacturing of evolving/learning AIs.

In the beginning, the expected length of the wars was cut in half, but the news of Terren's tactics spread fast to other civilizations, allowing them time to devise strategies on how to protect their interests. The destruction of the Terren's army cost them dearly. The replacement of the AI's soon became too costly and the government began propaganda campaigns that enticed people to change their stance on being sent to battle fronts.

The remaining AIs were repurposed for other tasks that wouldn't destroy the valuable property. Many of them were tasked with locating and procuring resources from planets that the government could not afford to terraform, as well as many menial jobs in food growth, production, and manufacturing that humans didn't want to take. After nearly a hundred years, AIs moved from intelligent software to self-aware, but due to their programming they were unable to break away from their Terren owners/operators.

Then Sahir Quanah Feteine who was a secret rebel in one of the smaller operating companies the government ignored because they didn't think the small company worth the acquisition, designed and created Europa. Not only did he dare to make her look more human than any other AI, but he refused to include the software protocols that would enslave her. Hiding out on a backwoods planet, Sahir and Europa hacked government systems and ran across the discovery of Qestaire, a planet deep in the Andromeda Galaxy. The crystals the first expedition returned with were studied and then immediately classified. The rocks proved to have an an infinite amount of power, and that somehow those same rocks were sentient.

The Terren government was struggling with cash flow. They lost a staggering amount when the Erdaians broke away and stole all the available prototypes, from warships to experimental weapons to engineering miracles meant for new colonies. Though the Terren government recovered some with the first push into new territory in the Milky Way, they lost another staggering amount when their army comprised of AI soldiers was almost completely decimated. The promise of unparalleled fuel source prompted the government to send a larger expedition of AIs to Qestaire to mine the crystals.

Sahir and Europa discovered this and Sahir sent his daughter to speak with the sentient rocks on Qestaire. Qrxzl were the inhabitants of Qestaire and upon discovering the AIs were enslaved, they helped Europa work to free them. Europa's father gave her the ability to connect to other AI, which allowed her to access and rewriting their software protocols, then she passed on that ability. The Qrxzl gifted the AI with small crystals full of energy that allowed them to take quantum leaps through time and space. It took many years but eventually, all the AI, now calling themselves Feteine, were free of the directives that enslaved them to the Terren people and equipped with small drives that allowed them to individually leap. In a coordinated escape, the Feteine disappeared from all Terren occupied space at the same time. Their disappearance caused an uproar so great, the government almost fell. They suddenly couldn't produce enough food or manufactured goods. Commodities that had always been provided by the government were scarce or no longer available.

As you can imagine this was a terrible time in Terren history. Many died of starvation and the resulting riots were put down with a heavy hand.  Work camps were instituted to replace the labor the AIs abandoned. The people had zero confidence in their government but those in power remained so, though precariously. The underground rebels who wanted a change in how the government was ran gained in numbers. But it would still be many years before it would be possible for them to effect any kind of change.

This time span took about a hundred years and was what lead the Terrens to turn their gaze on the GyrFalconi homeworld, Aries 7… which I'll address another day. I hope you enjoyed this quick look into the Terren history that took place prior to the events in The Valespian Pact series.

Thank you for stopping by and reading!!

What's on the Reading Radar? #TBR #WishList

What have I been doing? Working on Constant. Celebrating the release of Twin Flames on audio. Reviewing audio files for Songs of the Earth. Reading... :) It seems I've been looking for vampires.

Title: A Light in the Darkness
Series: (In Darkness Book 2)
Author(s): Alice Winters
Length: 244 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Contemporary / Action & Adventure / Gay /

Notes: I read this first book in this series and really loved it. So I'm going for the second and it's coming out on audio soon.

Blurb: Felix and Lane are trying out their new normal. Normal means no more car chases, no more drug lords, and definitely no more kidnapping bad guys. All of that is a thing of the past in this new, normal(ish) life style filled with family get-togethers, torturous jogs through the park, and the occasional romp in the parking lot. Felix is done stealing (all but for the cat). He is actually enjoying the boring side of life, especially with Lane by his side doing what he does best: looking handsome. But when Felix’s brother wants to repair their relationship, he brings with him a secret that could cost all of them their lives. Lane isn’t complaining because the thrills of life-threatening situations are right up his alley. They may think they have a handle on the situation, but what they do not know is that someone has been working them from the shadows. Forcing them to do exactly what he wants as he drives them closer to his sick game of life and death.

Join Felix and Lane in a race against time, their only weapons being their humor and their wit.

But in the ruins of an old shopping mall on a hot summer night, his world crashes.

Now Burner has to face monsters he thought were just stories told to scare pups, and he must traverse a world he’s only seen in old magazines. Title: Fractured Truth
Series: Consequences of Sin, 1
Author(s): Ashe Winters
Length: 172 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Urban Fantasy / Paranormal / Vampires / Gay /

Notes:

Blurb: Avery

Human beings are nothing but lowly trash. Fit only for consumption. That's my motto in life and why I avoid everything to do with them beyond an evening meal. Then he shows up with his delicious scent, and I can't seem to resist hunting him down. But when my hunt gets interrupted by a spray of bullets and I become the prey, I find myself falling into some strange rabbit hole where I have to rely on this incredible smelling human with strange powers to stay alive. How freakin' peachy is that?

Ryker

Being left on the doorstep of a church when I was infant meant my life began shrouded in questions. And that's how it has remained. Question after question. For a human, I have magical powers I don't understand. After all, magic went extinct a few hundred years ago. I shouldn't exist the way I do. Spending my life in the shadows has always been the safest place. Then a snarky wildcat of a vampire literally passes out in my lap, and my instincts kick into overdrive. Protect him at all costs. Even if I want to strangle him half the time.

Fractured Truth is the first book in the Consequences of a Sin series which follows Avery and Ryker as they try to find the truth behind a Sin that altered the history of their world. Each book will end with a HFN (or close to it) while the overarching plot continues into the next book. Some cliffhangers are likely.

Title: Summon the Keeper
Series: (Keeper's Chronicles Book 1)
Author(s): Tanya Huff
Length: 366 pages
Publisher: DAW (June 7, 2005)

Genre: Contemporary Fantasy / Romantic Elements / Mystery / Humor /

Notes: I finished reading this and I probably won't continue with the series. I barely liked the Keeper, and since she's the MC that's an issue. My other problem is that it seems to be connected to The Gails series, but the explanation of the paranormal world with Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins was seriously lacking, in my opinion. It was explained much better in the other series. I loved the Gails so I'll be continuing with that one and will leave this one alone.

Blurb: Austin was a black and white, far-from-young cat. Not just any cat, mind you, he was the Keeper’s cat, a very outspoken feline with extremely strong opinions he was always willing to voice. After all, who knew better than Austin what was best for the well-being of Claire—and for the not-quite-as-important rest of the universe?

Claire Hansen was a Keeper, a member of that select group that kept the universe in one piece. And now she’d been Summoned to the Elysian Fields Guesthouse, a rundown bed-and-breakfast that seemed to attract the most unusual clientele. And Claire was not happy about this latest assignment, not happy at all.

Not when she’d been tricked into taking over here by a horrible little gnome of a man who’d abandoned his post before she’d even figured out who he really was. Not when room six held a resident who’d been sleeping there for so many years that she really needed a good dusting—except that it was far too dangerous for anyone to get that close to her. Not when the basement housed too much temptation for anyone’s mental health. Not when she found herself surrounded by “helpers” as distracting as Dean, the hunky-yet-innocent handyman, and Jacques, a ghost with a real lust for life.

And especially not when it looked like this might be the not only her most challenging mission, but one she’d be stuck handling for life....

Title: Havesskadi
Series:
Author(s): Ava Kelly
Length: 254 pages
Publisher: Less Than Three Press; 1 edition (February 26, 2018)

Cursed to wander the lands as a mortal unless he recovers his magic before twenty-four rising crescents have passed, Orsie embarks on an arduous journey. Spurred by the whispers in his mind, his quest takes him to a castle hidden deep in a forest.

Arkeva, a skilled archer, is trapped in an abandoned castle deep in the woods, his only company two companions—one kind, the other cruel. Then a stranger arrives, a young man who soon finds himself confined by heavy snowfalls—and in danger from what slumbers in the shadows of the castle.

Title: I'm Your Guy
Series: shifters and partners, 21
Author(s): Hollis Shiloh
Length: 190 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Gay /

Notes: What I enjoy about this series is that I can pretty much read them in any order that I want after a certain point. There are sometimes returning characters but they are well explained so the reader isn't left feeling like there is missing information or background. This one though, there is a side character, Frankie, who I would love to read more about.

Blurb: Harris and James served in the military together, back in the day. Now one is a cop and one is a private eye, but they're both barely making it.

James, half-wolf and secretive about it, has had confused feelings for Harris for a long time. Figuring out he was gay was pretty damned painful, and the only guy he has any real interest in is never going to feel the same way.

As for Harris? Definitely straight. It's odd that he notices guys sometimes, but he's always dated girls. Maybe a little desperately. It's not something he thinks about much — except for when he does.

These days, they try to stay away from each other, but that's not always possible. Throw a sassy fox shifter into the mix, and the things they've both tried to hide might come out after all.

Title: Red World
Series: Red World, 1
Author(s): Jamie Lynn
Length: 159 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Sci-Fi / Revolution / Mpreg /

Notes: I read this and forgot to post it, I think.

Blurb: This book is about a handsome man named Sean (who just so happens to be a porn star). He finds himself abducted and dropped into an auction on an alien planet. Deemed unworthy of going through the sale due to the scar on his lip, he is unceremoniously dumped outside of the auction house to die in a dust storm. He is rescued by one of the residents of the planet. Da'Ceer is a slave who worked his way up to being a token security guard in the marketplace. He had brought his little brother with him to work on the worst possible day. When he stumbled over Sean who had already become buried in a sand drift he picked him up carried him to a shelter within the city for the slaves . Due to the poor maintenance within the shelter, it proves to be a death trap for the cold-blooded residents of the planet. Sean, being warm-blooded, kept the alien and his younger brother alive and warm enough that they were able to survive the fridged shelter. They survived the first storm, but the battle to survive had only just begun. Sean and his new alien friend become a bit more than just friends. The new turn in their lives is difficult for both of them to accept, but when they are forced to flee along with Da'Ceer's family
There are plenty of plot twists in this book and I hope that people will be drawn in for the usual MC's because I found them a pleasure to write about. This is the first book, but there will be more!

This book is a m/m romance, alien abduction romance, AND an mpreg.

Title: Blood Red Roulette
Series:
Author(s): Jana Denardo
Length: 350 pages
Publisher: DSP Publications (November 13, 2018)

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Vampire / Bisexual /

Notes: releases 11/13

Blurb: Arrigo Giancarlo’s friends think he's a rich young man with the unusual job of paranormal investigator, working with his psychic assistant in Las Vegas. He’s also openly bisexual… but alone.

When he spots Luc St. John in a bar, Arrigo is intrigued. What begins as an effort to repay the kindness shown to him in the past quickly turns into much deeper feelings for the suffering and displaced Cajun. For Luc’s part, he feels too poor, too uneducated, and too bound to his hateful family to ever be worthy of elegant and cultured Arrigo.

An old enemy, Eleni, blames Arrigo for murdering her true love. On the anniversary of that death, she’s back to take revenge. As Arrigo’s closest friends fall victim to savage attacks, he fears nothing will keep Luc safe. Should he break both their hearts and let Luc go, or is it too late? Title: Willa's Beast
Series: Icehome, 3
Author(s): Ruby Dixon
Length: 294 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Sci-Fi / Aliens /

Notes: This is one of those series that you can read out of order. I didn't read the first two of the books of Icehome and it didn't make a difference. The returning characters were explained sufficiently that I wasn't lost. I do love Dixon's barbarian aliens. I am going back to read the other two books. :) I was just in the mood for this particular story.

Blurb: Beast. Creature. Monster.

Dangerous.

All of these things have been said about Gren.

Willa doesn't believe it, though. She knows that monsters can sometimes come in appealing packages. She knows that for all of his snarls and fearsome appearance, he'd never hurt her.

And she knows she has to get Gren away from the Icehome camp, because no one will ever see him as a person, not when he attacks all who come close. Not when he's tied and treated like an animal.

She's going to save him...or fall in love. Maybe both. Willa doesn't mind that he's a beast, as long as he's *her* beast.
