What is on the Reading Radar #WishList #read #TBR

I have missed posting for the last two Saturday Reading Radar. Sorry about that. Lots of things going on with the closing of my publisher and such.

I kept today's list short and simple. :D

Title: Nothing Gained
Series: The Chosen One, 4
Author: Macy Blake
Length: 254 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Fantasy / Poly / Gay / #read

Notes: Another great addition to the series. Sawyer finally gains his last two guardians and along with it, revelations that aren't comfortable. I really look forward to the next book. If it's the last one for Sawyer's group, I will be really sad.

Blurb: Sawyer Smith’s life is a hot mess.
Hot, because he’s found six of his eight mates. To say things are heating up between them is putting it mildly.

A mess, because he’s the Chosen One, the son of a goddess with no powers of his own, tasked with fixing the broken magic in his world... and he has no clue how to do it.

With every new layer of mystery that's revealed, Sawyer's doubts about his abilities get stronger. To complicate matters, Sawyer is growing weaker by the day. Meanwhile, his newest guardian, the one he’s calling Yellow Eyes, refuses to reveal himself.

With time running out, Sawyer's desperate enough to make a daring move -- one that's potentially deadly for him and his mates. Because at the end of the day, if there’s nothing ventured… there’s Nothing Gained.

Title: Stand in Place
Series:
Author: Mary Calmes
Length: 311 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Contemporary / Gay / #TBR

Notes:

Blurb: One summer won’t be enough….
Kaenon Geary was done fighting the small minds in his sleepy Texas town when he made his escape and never looked back. But now, for the first time in more than a decade, he’s returned to Braxton to spend the summer with his beloved grandmother—her final summer—and no longer recognizes the home he’d left behind all those years ago.

Everything has changed.

Everything but the man he’s never stopped wanting.

Brody Scott was the local football hero who became a gridiron champ, but he retired from the fast lane to forge a new life as the Chief Constable of Braxton. He longs to put down roots in the community he is now sworn to protect. Though he’s not at all sure he can protect his heart from the quiet, earnest boy he once knew. The boy who has come back a man.
Starting something would be a mistake. Kaenon plans to fly away at summer’s end, but his love is something Brody desperately wants to have…and to keep. Their days together are numbered. Unless some simple hometown magic can make all the right things bloom and show them the true definition of love.

Title: The Heir's Vampire Guardian
Series: Planet Xenos, 1
Author: Ezra Dawn
Length: 132 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Sci-Fi / Gay / #WishList

Notes: This sounds fun.

Blurb: (This is a paranormal short story and the start of a new series. The first part of this story appeared on Stormy Glenn’s ManLove Fantasies Blog of Summer 2019.)

Vraylar is a dragon shifter of royal blood, who calls Xenos his home. Xenos is a planet light years away from Earth whose inhabitants are shifters of all types. Xenos is usually a peaceful planet, but in an effort to seize the throne, a war has been waged. When an assassination attempt is made on Vraylar and the unborn child of the now deceased King and Queen, Vraylar makes a decision to send the child away, in the hopes that it will be protected until the war is over and it’s safe to return.

Vladislav Dracula, Slava to his friends, is the first vampire ever created and the current lord of the North American covens. Being centuries old, makes him a force to be reckoned with as he gains a new power as each century passes. When Slava wakes up in an alley with a briefcase cuffed to his wrist and no recollection of how it got there, he has to work at getting his memories to return, because without them, he has no idea what to do with the case or its contents. And not knowing can be a dangerous thing.

Vraylar has to end the war before the case protecting the heir opens. If he doesn’t, the enemy will stop at nothing to end the child’s life. With Slava’s memory on the fritz, he’ll be a sitting duck if Vraylar fails. Meeting your mate in the middle of a war is not how either thought things would go, but if they’re to stop what’s coming, they’ll have to work together to protect innocent lives.

(Warning: Contains sexual content, Mpreg elements, and explicit language. Not recommended for those under the age of 18.)

Rainbow Awards: Honorable Mention

This year I entered Sunder and Caledonia Destiny into the Rainbow awards. Category winners will not be announced until December but the Honorable Mentions are being listed at the FB event (one or two every couple of days are going up). You can see the list Here.

I was surprised Caledonia Destiny received an honorable mention, (I hoped, I always hoped that someone would like the story) which just made my day.

Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention:
Caledonia Destiny by Lexi Ander:

Caledonia Destiny hooked me from page one. I did have an inkling of how things would transpire, but the author twisted the end in such a unique way, I was still surprised at the resolution. The setting was very well balanced, enough description to ground the reader without going overboard. There were a few places where character remarks clouded the setting, but they were few and my mind readily dismissed them. The characters’ depth and growth was masterfully handled. The emotions and reactions felt real, when a book brings me to tears, the loss of Roi, I know I’ve connected to well developed characters. The style is probably my favorite part of the book. I’ve read others that use period spelling, but only in speech. The choice to do so, to research not only changes in spelling but in terminology, was what truly pulled me into Ewen and Roi’s world. The writing style immersed me in this world, compelled me to remain. In summary, this was an excellently composed story, one that draws a reader in so completely that they must blink to remember where they really are.

News Bites and Changes

The last two Saturdays I neglected to do the Reading Radar. That hasn't happened in... years, I think.

A lot has been going on. If you haven't heard, my publisher, LT3 Press, is shutting down. You can see the announcement here. So I've been a bit preoccupied.

I will be working to get my books back out on the market as soon as I can. One or two I will be holding onto for a round of edits before it goes back up. I'll be reviewing them in my downtime. I can think of one that I will be holding onto so that I can add more content at the end of the book, but most will go back up after a review.

With these changes, I will be postponing contracting Dreams of the Forgotten (Sumeria's Sons, 3) for audio. This will be put on the back burner until probably the end of the year.

In the meantime, my main project will be finishing writing Constant (The Valespian Pact, 3). I'm at the last part with 5-7 chapters to go, and I need to stay focused. I will feel so much better once it is completed. The editing will take forever because it is a BEAST of a book, but it will be off my writing table and freeing me up for other things.

If you have any questions, don't be shy. I will answer them to the best of my ability. See you next Saturday. I will have a Reading Radar for you.

All My Best,
Lexi

What's on the Reading Radar? #TBR #WishList #reading

Well, my vacation is almost over. Both sad and happy. Sad because wow, I'm so relaxed I'm bored. LOL! And happy because I think I have the outline for the last seven chapters of Constant fixed... not that it will stay all nice and neat once I get to writing and follow where the characters lead.

In the meantime, I have joined a reading challenge. The topic is poly romance, which if you have followed me for a while, know that it is one of my favorite topics to read. Here is the selection offered and I'm going to try and read all of them. Well, there are a couple on the list that I have read already, but I'm going to add them here anyway just in case someone else would be interested.

Title: Five-Sided Heart
Series:
Author: Max MacGowan
Length: 246 pages
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press; 1 edition (May 16, 2016)

But when he returns for the Old Man’s funeral, he discovers his father left him the house and boat in his will. Noah must choose whether to stay or go, but he won’t be alone. There’s Ian, working to overcome the emotional scars left by a domineering ex-boyfriend, and Ty, a cheerful housekeeper who’s struggling to take care of his Alzheimer’s-stricken aunt. There’s Joshua too, running from the destruction of his old life, and Gabriel, who was once beaten and left for dead, and doesn’t know how to survive on his own.

Will they find in each other the strength and courage to keep living—and learn, together, how to love again? A polyamorous relationship is the last thing any of them expected to find in the Outer Banks, but it might be what they need most, and it might even be their redemption—if they can keep their group from breaking apart under the pressure.

Title: The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet
Series: (Wayfarers Book 1)
Author: Becky Chambers,
Length: 423 pages
Publisher: Harper Voyager (August 18, 2015)

Genre: Sci-Fi / Action & Adventure / All the Queer

Notes: I bought the first three books in this series at B&N and then forgot about them. This is now on audio as well.

Blurb: Follow a motley crew on an exciting journey through space—and one adventurous young explorer who discovers the meaning of family in the far reaches of the universe—in this light-hearted debut space opera from a rising sci-fi star.

Rosemary Harper doesn’t expect much when she joins the crew of the aging Wayfarer. While the patched-up ship has seen better days, it offers her a bed, a chance to explore the far-off corners of the galaxy, and most importantly, some distance from her past. An introspective young woman who learned early to keep to herself, she’s never met anyone remotely like the ship’s diverse crew, including Sissix, the exotic reptilian pilot, chatty engineers Kizzy and Jenks who keep the ship running, and Ashby, their noble captain.

Life aboard the Wayfarer is chaotic and crazy—exactly what Rosemary wants. It’s also about to get extremely dangerous when the crew is offered the job of a lifetime. Tunneling wormholes through space to a distant planet is definitely lucrative and will keep them comfortable for years. But risking her life wasn’t part of the plan. In the far reaches of deep space, the tiny Wayfarer crew will confront a host of unexpected mishaps and thrilling adventures that force them to depend on each other. To survive, Rosemary’s got to learn how to rely on this assortment of oddballs—an experience that teaches her about love and trust, and that having a family isn’t necessarily the worst thing in the universe.

Title: Flash Me
Series: (Heathens Ink Book 6)
Author: K.M. Neuhold
Length: 420 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Contemporary / Trans / M/M/M  (KU Option)

Notes:

Blurb: Love is multiplied, never divided

I was kicked out at sixteen for being transgender, but it turned out to be one of the best things to ever happen to me. At twenty-one, I have a fantastic new family made up of my brother and a handful of wonderful friends, I own my own photography business, and I’m happier than I imagined possible. There’s just one thing missing… Okay, maybe two…

Wyatt and Owen couldn’t be more different, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting them both...needing them both.

***This is the sixth book in the Heathens Ink series. Each book in the series CAN be read as a stand-alone, but characters do re-occur so it’s more fun to read them all! This is a steamy M/M/M romance with a guaranteed HEA.

Title: Warriors & Healers
Series:
Author: H.J. Brues
Length: 264 pages
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press; 1 edition (December 6, 2009)

Blurb: When Dr. Daniel Ugarte arrives from Spain to work on the Apache reservation, he meets Jeff Redbear, a Native American social worker, and Sean McCallum, the local sheriff. The men come from three different worlds, and they have little to no common ground until an immediate, unexpected attraction sparks between them.

Facing the growing desire is just the beginning of the obstacles they will face: Daniel's past makes him blind to Jeff and Sean’s feelings for him and terrified of standing in the way of their love for each other; Sean has to fight his present worry of not being strong enough to protect the men he loves; and Jeff’s pride and fear of future rejection make him push Sean and Daniel away before they get too close to his heart.

But the strength of the love that blooms between them is the worst of their fears, because it will take as much courage to run from it and go on living empty, meaningless lives as it will to fight for the happiness they might never reach together.

No matter how much his parents might want the match, or his house might need her dowry. Besides, he has his own problems -- most of them people who need his help as a mind-healer.

Lord Justin Comfrey, Viscount of Comfrey, would be more than happy to help Striker with his financial troubles, and not just to ensure that Miss Vasilver's dowry doesn't tempt Striker into marriage. If only he could find some way to make his proud, stubborn friend accept the money!

Can three people of such different temperaments ever find their way to a more perfect Paradise?

To return Meraud to this world, the two of them will confront every obstacle: the magic of the wild unknowable, a friendly vicar who's only concerned for their spiritual wellbeing, and even the Thames Water helpline. All of which would be doable, if only they didn’t have to do it together.

~

"I loved this unusual novella -- contemporary fantasy set in a London illuminated by the light of another world. Elegant, tender and funny, it's a perfect book to curl up with on a winter's night, along with your favourite seasonal accessories (mug of hot drink, festive jumper, pet cat or loved one, etc)." - Zen Cho

Title: Chameleon Moon

The entire population inside has been quarantined, cut off from the rest of the world, and left to die - directly over the open flame. Eye in the Sky, a deadly and merciless police force ensures no one escapes. Ever. All that’s keeping Parole alive is faith in the midst of horrors and death, trust in the face of desperation… and their fantastic, terrifying, and beautiful superhuman abilities.

Regan, silent, scaly stealth expert, is haunted by ten years of anxiety, trauma and terror, and he’s finally reached his limit. His ability to disappear into thin air isn’t enough: he needs an escape, and he’ll do anything for a chance. Unluckily for him, Hans, a ghostly boy with a chilling smile, knows just the thing to get one. It starts with a little murder.

But instead of ending a man’s life, Regan starts a new one of his own. He turns away from that twisted path, and runs into Evelyn, fearless force on stage and sonic-superheroic revolutionary on the streets. Now Regan has a choice - and a chance to not only escape from Parole, but unravel the mystery deep in its burning heart. And most of all, discover the truth about their own entwining pasts.

They join forces with Evelyn’s family: the virtuosic but volatile Danae, who breathes life into machines, and her wife Rose, whose compassionate nature and power over healing vines and defensive thorns will both be vital to survive this nightmare. Then there’s Zilch, a cool and level-headed person made of other dead people, and Finn, one of Parole’s few remaining taxi drivers, who causes explosions whenever he feels anything but happy.

Separately they’d never survive, much less uncover the secret of Parole’s eternally-burning fire. Together, they have a chance. Unfortunately, Hans isn’t above playing dirty, lying, cheating, manipulating… and holding Regan’s memories hostage until he gets his way.

Parole’s a rough place to live. But they’re not dead yet. If they can survive the imminent cataclysmic disaster, they might just stay that way…

Title: Everfair
Series:
Author: Nisi Shawl
Length: 384 pages
Publisher: Tor Books (September 6, 2016)

Genre: Alternate History / Neo-Victoria / Poly / F/F/F

Notes:

Blurb:

Everfair is a wonderful Neo-Victorian alternate history novel that explores the question of what might have come of Belgium's disastrous colonization of the Congo if the native populations had learned about steam technology a bit earlier. Fabian Socialists from Great Britian join forces with African-American missionaries to purchase land from the Belgian Congo's "owner," King Leopold II. This land, named Everfair, is set aside as a safe haven, an imaginary Utopia for native populations of the Congo as well as escaped slaves returning from America and other places where African natives were being mistreated.

Nisi Shawl's speculative masterpiece manages to turn one of the worst human rights disasters on record into a marvelous and exciting exploration of the possibilities inherent in a turn of history. Everfair is told from a multiplicity of voices: Africans, Europeans, East Asians, and African Americans in complex relationships with one another, in a compelling range of voices that have historically been silenced. Everfair is not only a beautiful book but an educational and inspiring one that will give the reader new insight into an often ignored period of history.

At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.
