What's on the Reading Radar? #WishList

Good-bye, January. I thought December went fast! I'm not where I want to be in Cherish's progress, though I am making progress, I had just hoped to be further along. I'm not going to beat myself up over it (mostly). I will just rearrange my plans (and expectation).

Today's Radar is all over. I read things here and there this past week, but my mind wouldn't settle so I've been sipping from book to book looking for the story that fits my mood. So today is all about the Wish List.

Series:
Author(s): RA Steffan
Length: 251 pages

Genre: Romance / Slow Burn / Urban Fantasy / Fae / Vampires / Demons / Gay

Notes: I was sent a note that this was a book that I would like. :D

Blurb: There's an unconscious Fae drooling on Len's couch. That's not even the weirdest thing to happen to him this week.

Len's been told that not all Fae are scheming, manipulative pricks. A moot point, since this one definitely is—he knows that much from bitter experience.

So, when his vampire ex-coworker dumps Albigard of the Unseelie on Len's doorstep, he gives her two hours to find a better hiding place for the Fae fugitive before tossing him straight to the curb with the rest of the garbage.

He should have known better, of course. Because if there's one thing Len's learned since being thrown into the deep end of the seedy paranormal underworld, it's that nothing is ever so simple.

Now he's on the run from a cataclysmic primal force trying to tear its way into the human realm, stuck with a charismatic bastard who already knows way too much about the inside of Len's messed-up head. The first time he met Albigard, Len punched the Fae in his too-perfect face. This time, they'll have to learn to work together—or risk having their souls torn apart and consigned to the void, with the rest of humanity facing the same fate soon after.

The Wild Hunt has slipped its chains.
Darkness is coming for the world.

Forsaken Fae is a slow-burn M/M urban fantasy trilogy. It's set in the same world as the bestselling series The Last Vampire and its other spinoff, Vampire Bound. Download Book One today, and enter a world shared by humans, fae, demons, and vampires. It’s a place where the supernatural threatens the mundane, nothing is as it seems, and enemies must overcome their tangled pasts in order to save the future.

Series: Time Served, 1
Author(s): Onley James
Length: 224 pages

Genre: Romance / Contemporary / Mystery / Protection Services / Gay

Notes: Admittedly, I picked this one because I assumed from the title (I only glanced at the blurb) that it was a paranormal romance. It is a mystery. I've never read Onley James before so I'm keeping it on the list.

Blurb: After spending his formative years in an abusive home, NICHOLAS WEBSTER has made a pretty good life for himself. He has friends, a lucrative job with Elite Protection Services, and a side gig that lets him help out those escaping the same abusive home situation he left behind. But no matter how many people he helps, he can’t escape the guilt over the one person he didn’t—his step-brother, Cyrus.

CYRUS WHITAKER has spent the last twenty years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, put there by the very person he vowed to protect. On the inside, he’s made strides to better himself so he can have a future on the outside. But just when he thinks there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, he receives a new cellmate—the boy who put him away all those years ago.

In trying to make things right, Webster has triggered a series of events that will ruin both their lives, or worse, end them. Somebody has framed him and sent him to a prison where they hope Cy’s need to get even will get rid of Webster for good. But they don’t know Cyrus or the bond they shared. A bond they still share. But can Webster figure out who’s doing this to them and why before Cyrus is forced to choose between hurting the one person he loves or spending his life in a cage?

ENDANGERED SPECIES is the first book in the Time Served Series and is a spin-off of the Elite Protection Services Series. It is complete at 60,000 words and contains an HEA and no cliffhangers.

Series:
Author(s): Carole Cummings
Length: 419 pages

Genre: Romance / Fantasy / Gay

Notes:

Blurb: Love, and war—and dragons!

"A sweet standalone romantic fantasy... richly imagined." -- Publisher's Weekly

When rumblings of conflict appear on the horizon, the dragons start to disappear. Milo is dragonkin, and knows what he must do. It is an uneasy choice, and one he dares not reveal even to his lover, Ellis.

As leader of neighbouring Wellech, Ellis has his own hard choices. His skills are crucial to a secure homeland. More and more, the homeland he and Milo once hoped to share is under threat--not only from outside, but within.

For their own people are sowing mistrust of the magic users, seeding a betrayal of not only the dragons, but their kin.

Series: Winsford Shifters, 1
Author(s): Alice Winters
Length: 345 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Mystery / Shifters / Humor / Gay

Notes:

Blurb: RowanMy whole life, I’ve been taught to despise shifters. So when I’m hired to track two escaped convicts, I’m suddenly thrust into the world I hate—or thought I did. Yet I’m inexplicably drawn to the alpha of the pack whose land the convicts may be hiding on. He’s different than any shifter I've ever met—laid back and quick to laugh, caring and protective, and makes me feel complete for the first time in my life. As secrets are revealed, I start to wonder if everything I’ve been raised to believe was a lie, though it may not matter because it seems like someone wants us dead.

Quinn
I’m no stranger to prejudice from humans, but it’s different when Rowan comes into my life. Though I shouldn’t let myself be distracted, I’m captivated by him. At first, he’s stiff, fighting to keep his misconstrued beliefs intact, but as I break down the wall he’s created, I’m able to show him a place among the fun chaos of my pack. After one of my pack goes missing, it leaves Rowan and me racing to bring them home, but the only way we’re going to survive this is if Rowan learns to accept the bond that’s growing between us—a bond that could give us the strength to put aside our reservations and give in to what both of us want.

Of Secrets and Wolves is an action-filled romance with a dash of comedy. It’s the first book in a series with a continuing storyline and an HFN.

Series: Horseman's Harem Saga, 1
Author(s): Freida Kilmari
Length: 462 pages

Genre: Romance / Urban Fantasy / Magic / Poly Romance / LGBTQ+

Notes:

Blurb: No name. No past. One giant future?

The only thing worse than suddenly waking up in a magical house with the insanely gorgeous Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? Being the Fifth.

With no memory of who I am, where I came from, or what I’m doing here, I’m thrust into a new life with four people who I might want more from than just friendship. But with no past, how can I possibly plan for a future?

The only clue as to who I am? Four different species' magic resides within me—Vampire, Fae, Shifter, and Witch—and between them, I might be the most powerful creature on the planet.

For fuck's sake.

Look out world, Horseman of Magic coming through!

***

This is a 120,000-word fantasy polyromance book where the main character will not be forced to choose between their love interests. This book contains lesbian and gay content, excess profanity, a character who can shift their sex (both male and female), is gender and sexually fluid, and who spends a lot of time being a snarky, swearing badass. Please refer to this book's content guidance page in the front matter for specifics.

Series:
Author(s): Victoria Vallo
Length: 84 pages

Genre: Romance / Space / Gay

Notes:

Blurb: Nobek doesn’t want to go to Endless Nights.

But he doesn’t have much choice. His older brother bought the resort, and it was his idea to do all the traveling for new acquisitions, so he’ll do as he’s told and go inspect the place. Endless Nights promises guests that “every pleasure” will be available to them, and Nobek’s assignment is to sample as many as he can.

Quinn doesn’t want to work at Endless Nights.

But the pleasure palace has bankrupted all the other resorts in the system, including the one his family owned, so he needs the money. They all do. To make matters worse, the resort has changed hands. Quinn’s job was already challenging enough, and he doesn’t feel like relearning how to do it just yet.

Neither of them wants to be where they are, but the cosmic fates don’t care about that. They have much, much better plans in the works.

What's on the Reading Radar? #read #TBR #WishList

This week went by way too fast. I'm seriously digging the NC winter. It is been like an Indiana early, frosty spring for months. I spent the week working from the kitchen table instead of my office. I should move all my stuff back downstairs, but the morning view out of five windows keep whispering, nope, to me. The table chair will probably be the reason why I go back to my writing den. LOL!

Series: Dragon Hoard, 2
Author(s): Minerva Howe
Length:

Genre: Erotic Romance / Paranormal / Dragons / mpreg / Gay /

Notes: This releases Jan 26th! I loved the first book and I know what I'm going to be doing on Tuesday!

Blurb: Dragon shifter Eagan Drake knows Oliver Reaver is his mate. He's known it since they met, when Ollie braved Eagan's brother's den to try to save his business partner and best friend, Devon. The problem is, Ollie is convinced that Eagan needs a dragon mate, and that he's just an ordinary human.

Ollie loves Eagan desperately. He knows he should just leave and let Eagan find his true mate, but he keeps being drawn back to his dragon's side. When a dangerous vampire starts to stalk Ollie at his bookshop, he finally gives in and asks Eagan if he can come home to stay.

Now, if Ollie can just stop being the king of denial, Eagan knows Ollie can give him what he wants most. All his love, and a family of his own. But will Eagan be able to convince Ollie that he's a very special mate and let their dragons soar together?

Series: Hidden Species, 2
Author(s): Louisa Masters
Length: 255 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Urban Fantasy / Vampire / Gay /

Notes: Loved this book and the series.

Blurb: Getting kidnapped was never part of my life plan. But being rescued opened up a whole world of crazy.

It’s not easy being the only human at the Community of Species Government—and especially not when you’re the rescue case. Two years ago, I was planning to go to college, have a wild time, then settle into a normal life. Instead, I was kidnapped, spent months being a test subject, was in hiding for nearly a year, and then found out that my whole existence is a science experiment conducted by the bad guys. It’s definitely time to reassess.

My rescuers at CSG have been awesome… mostly. They gave me a job, a home, and a support network. But the whole demons, vampires, shifters thing is not easy to get used to. Especially when one particular vampire makes me want to take up stake sharpening for a hobby. How can someone be over eight centuries old and have the maturity of a drunk frat boy?

The thing is, teenage mentality or not, Andrew is a fierce protector. With the bad guys still on the loose, I need someone like that on my side. Plus, did I mention that he’s not hard to look at? I could stare at him all day if only he never opened his mouth.

As we race to find my former captor before he can find me, life takes another twist and upends my world all over again. This time, though, I’m ready—after all, I’ve got an eight-hundred-year-old vampire at my back. What could possibly go wrong?

Series: The Alderbarian Alliance, 2
Author(s): Dianne Duvall
Length: 506 pages

Genre: Romance / Sci-fi / Vampires in Space! / Action & Adventure

Notes: I have been waiting for this book. I actually squee'd when the preorder popped up on my kindle app! LOVE it. Can it be read as a standalone, yes.

Blurb: Eliana’s life has never been what one might term ordinary. At least, it hasn’t been for a very long time. As a powerful Immortal Guardian, she spends her nights hunting and slaying psychotic vampires that most of humanity doesn’t even realize exist. Then an opportunity arises that instantly makes her extraordinary existence seem downright boring. The leader of the Immortal Guardians asks her to guard a group of mortals who are embarking upon a voyage across the galaxy to the planet Lasara. How could she possibly say no?

In no time at all, Eliana is hurtling through space on board a Lasaran battleship and getting to know not one but two alien races. It’s the most exciting adventure of her long life… until the ship is unexpectedly attacked. Amid the chaos and destruction that follow, she valiantly helps everyone she can before an explosion renders her unconscious. When Eliana awakens, she finds herself alone, floating in space, clad only in a spacesuit, with no ship in sight. Alone—that is—except for the warm, deep voice that carries over the comm in her helmet.

Commander Dagon and the crew of the Segonian battleship Ranasura respond to a distress call from their Lasaran allies and join a massive Alliance-wide search-and-rescue mission. He quickly achieves communication with a lone Earthling female and races toward her. Every time they speak, his fascination with her grows and he becomes more desperate to reach her before her oxygen supply runs out. Her strength, bravery, and humor entice him, even more so when she defies all odds and they meet in person.

As he and Eliana embark upon a quest to find her missing friends, a bond swiftly grows between them that deepens with every laugh and smile and tender touch they share. But they are not the only ones searching for Earthling survivors. When Eliana herself becomes the hunted and their enemies begin to close in, can the two of them fight their way to victory, or will their enemies take everything?

Title: Wild Wolf
Series: Wolf Hunt, 2
Author(s): RJ Blain
Length: 219 pages

Genre: Paranormal / Mystery / Action & Adventure

Notes: this is a preorder I completely forgot I order until it popped up on my kindle app. LOL! The first book was really good and it left me with a bit of HFN-hang. It wasn't a cliff, but he... I cannot say else give away spoilers to the first book.

Blurb: After making his escape to Russia, Declan McGrady believes he finally has the chance to start over. Mysterious deaths in the place he’s chosen as home serve to shatter his delusions.

He can’t hide forever, and in Russia, folklores aren’t just tales of the past: they’re real. Alone, Declan has no chance of stopping the wild wolf preying on the innocent. For any hope of victory, he must rely upon those he’d abandoned on Bodwin’s mountain—if he dares.

Title: Lady Jackie
Series: Lady Jackie Chronicles
Author(s): Quirah Casey
Length: 176 pages

Genre: Dark Romance / Paranormal / Vampires / Magic / Med Burn RH / Bisexual

Notes: I started this one the other night. I've not read this author before and since I like vampires and this one seemed that the vampires were morally ambiguous, I thought I would give it a go.

Blurb: Some call me Madam, others call me The Devil's Spawn, but you can call me Lady Jackie.Being Gentleman’s Jack’s daughter has always made my life hard. So when he goes missing, I’m perfectly fine with letting him stay that way.

That changes when the Oliberos Coven appears on the doorstep of the brothel I now claim as mine. Beating down lowlifes looking for "Gentleman Jack" was one thing, but having the most dangerous vampire breathing down my neck is another.

Now if I want my five new stalkers out of my life, I have no choice but to find Daddy Dearest. But I don’t anticipate the new threats that lurk on Bourbon street or the way they force me to have to work with the Oliberos Coven.

And I certainly don't anticipate the dangerous attraction that ensues...

This is the first book in a dark, medium burn reverse harem series which will feature m/f, m/m, f/f, and everything in between. If you don't like chaotic, brothel owning vampire heroines with daddy issues this book may not be for you.

Series: Death Retired Mysteries, 1
Author(s): Cate Lawley

Notes: I haven't read this author before. The cover is what caught my attention, then the title. It sounds like it will be fun and something different from what I'm listening to.

Blurb: Death's not taking a holiday, he's retired.

Or he was, until murder intrudes on his quiet retirement plans. Geoff's stalked by ghosts, and his former bosses have saddled him with the care of a possessed bobcat. With his beautiful neighbor Sylvie and his cat's help, can he solve a fiendish crime?

Click to see how Geoff becomes involved in his first murder investigation and all of the uproarious antics that ensue.

Death Retired is a humorous cozy mystery with no explicit sexual content or profanity, though the book does contain adult situations and some violence.

Series: (The Serpent Gates Book 1)
Author(s): AK Larkwood
Length: 498 pages

Genre: High Fantasy

Notes: This has been on my TBR for a little over a year. I even bought the audiobook when I put it on the TBR. It came up on the group's reading list for the month and I dusted it off. LOL

Blurb: A. K. Larkwood's The Unspoken Name is a stunning debut fantasy about a young priestess sentenced to die, who at the last minute escapes her fate; only to become an assassin for the wizard who saved her.

What if you knew how and when you will die?

Csorwe does—she will climb the mountain, enter the Shrine of the Unspoken, and gain the most honored title: sacrifice.

But on the day of her foretold death, a powerful mage offers her a new fate. Leave with him, and live. Turn away from her destiny and her god to become a thief, a spy, an assassin—the wizard's loyal sword. Topple an empire, and help him reclaim his seat of power.

But Csorwe will soon learn—gods remember, and if you live long enough, all debts come due.

I don't have many expectations for my life beyond those things and that's just fine by me. But when two fae amulets are stolen and only a human can retrieve them, my warlord asks me to help. He is the Hawk Lord—honorable, brave, terrifyingly powerful, and hot enough to set my pants on fire with a single look. That look was all it took to get me to agree to one of the most dangerous missions of my life. What I didn't know was that he'd be accompanying me, watching my back as we crept through the continent of Alantri—land of the monstrous Farungal. Nor did I know that our mission would bring us together in the most unexpected ways. The Hawk Lord is so much more than I thought. Stronger and more heroic, with a soul more beautiful than his face. But he also has a darkness inside him, one that could bind us together forever or tear us viciously apart. To survive his love, I'll need the heart and soul of a hawk.

Linden should be terrified, but his knees go weak for all the wrong reasons.

When Linden’s family is taken hostage, spending the night with Callum ought to be the last thing on his mind, but Linden can’t resist the chance to fulfill his deepest fantasies before sacrificing his own life. Griff was born a Love fairy, but he never quite fitted in. He didn’t want to be part of a harem…at least he didn’t think so. What with his wings gone and his memory damaged, he can’t be certain of what he felt in the past. All he does know is he wants his wings back. Without them, he’s grounded.

Blaze’s last screw-up got him grounded, unable to shift into his dragon form. His punishment seems harsh to him, but there's no escaping it.

When the Love fairies come to the castle to work on forming an alliance, Blaze has about had it with guarding the horny beings, and he's disappointed that they don’t stay small and cute. Swatting at something buzzing him, he almost starts an inter-species war when it turns out to be a fairy on a dragonfly.

And from that snarky first meeting between Griff and Blaze, something wonderful, and dangerous, will come…

2020 Favorite Books #read #2020favoritereads

2020 was a heavy (heavy) rereading year for me and there were times that I would finish the reread only to turn around and start at the beginning again. I honestly didn't think that I would have many new favorites. I'm glad I double checked before I decided to skip this end-of-year post. This is an eclectic list since I read lots of different things and it is in no particular order. What were your favorite 2020 books?

Series: RELIC #1
Author: Maz Maddox

My thoughts: This is my first book by Maz and I LOVED it. Lonely, nerdy guy in possession of a fossil that two different parties, a ruthless cartel and a pink mohawk dinosaur shifter who loves tourist traps, who want to claim by any means necessary.

There is a lot that I loved about this book. The writing was fresh and engaging. There wasn't a dull moment and I rooted hard for Dalton and Simon. I will be grabbing up the next book that comes out without even reading the blurb and I have designs on buying the paperback for my overflowing shelf. :) And I just noticed it is out on AUDIO on January 12th. Mine! Mine! Mine!

Title: Finch
Series: Forbidden Desires series
Author: Virginia Kelly & Piper Scott

My thoughts: I have loved this series from book one. Each Drake and their love interests have been vastly different, keeping the stories feeling fresh and exciting. I sort of did this hording thing where I bought and waited to read Swallow and Magpie. Both were great stories but there is a charm about Finch that endears the story to me. Hugh is described as whimsical, but he is also a bit clueless and so freaking Adorable. He so needs to a keeper and Finch is perfect for him. Of the series, this one is my absolute favorite. I didn't think that Bond would be knocked off that perch, but here we are with me cuddling Hugh and Finch as if they were my children. LOL

Series: Brimstone, 7
Author: Angel Martinez

My thoughts: What a fun and fantastic journey! I'm so sad that the series came to an end but everyone needed their HEA. This is a series that I will continue to re-read to visit my favorite characters. And maybe, hopefully, Angel will write another story, not with these characters but set in this world and we can get glimpses of a demon pirate gone legit.

Series: Alderbarian Alliance
Author: Dianne Duvall

My thoughts: I have been reading Duvall's Immortal Guardian series for a few years now. I found the series through my local library's audiobook catalog, and they are a fun twist on vampires, filled with action and suspense. I haven't read the last two books of that series, but I didn't need to to read this spin-off. I knew enough of the over-all plot and the characters to not be lost. Boy, I loved this book and have already reread it four times. I'm in the middle of the 5th because book 2 comes out this month (which I'm so freaking excited for!!!!!!) There is a mixture of the Immortals, Gifted Ones, and people from other planets. I'm in heaven.

Series:
Author: Jacquelyn Faye

My thoughts: This is off the beaten track from other RH books. A succubus falls in love, has a couple of children and then her husband passes away. The beginning of this story is her coming out of mourning and starting a new life with her two teenage kids. It's a fun story line that still has a bit of action to it without skimping on the sexy times. I Love that it is angst free and it has turned into one of my rereads. I hope the author gives Kara another dilemma. I would love to see where she and her kids are at.

Series: (Polished P & P Book 1)
Author: Lila Rose

My thoughts: The book and Never A Saint are on my favorites list for 2020. I rarely read contemporary anymore and dithered about this, though I loved the cover and kept coming back to it. I'm glad I took a chance because it was a nice break. Both books have very little angst and were fun in different ways. They are spin-offs of Rose's MC series but they can be read as standalones. I'm hoping to see another book in this series. :)

Title: The Quarry MasterA Grumpy Alien Boss Romantic Comedy
Series:  (The Grumpy Heroes Book 1)
Author: Amanda Milo

My thoughts: This is set in Milo's Stolen by an Alien universe. Do you need to read the other books? Not really. If you do, you understand some of the side character nuances better, but this can stand by itself. And if you truly want a grumpy character this one will fit the bill. He is grumpy without being mean or cruel. He just wants to be left alone. The romance is slow burn, which is great because it was great getting to see the characters develop. He's still grumpy at the end of the book but not as much so. Loved it.

Series: Earth Fathers
Author: Lyn Gala

My thoughts: This is a fun series and continues with Max trying to make sure Rick is properly compensated for his work and finding out just how much he does not understand about the world he now lives in.  He's sorta of winging it, making his way, teaching the aliens that their ideas about humans are wrong, and it was fun to watch. The Kids! Gah! I can just see James waving his tentacles around shouting, "Just shoot them all!" I'm kinda of excited that we get to see Rick's homeworld in the next book.

Series: (VRC: Vampire Related Crimes Book 1)
Author: Alice Winters

My thoughts: This was a fun series to get into. There is humor, and admittedly, some of that humor is mean. It's supposed to be because the vampires don't like humans that much. There is a lot of bad blood between humans and vampires. But the story is about the vampires learning to like a human.

Series:
Author: Amanda Milo

My thoughts: If you want something a bit different from the normal paranormal romance, then give this one a go. I'm trying to figure out what to say that won't give away the plot. Yikes. The romance is slow burn. Sexy times isn't until the end. There is a lot of humor and some really endearing moments. I loved how the pack is a mixture of canids, and the heirarchy in that is different too. Very refreshing as well as fun. And the kids! The youngest mad me laugh the most. I hope this goes to audio.

Series: (Charybdis Station Book 2)
Author: CW Gray

My thoughts: All of the books in this series are some of my go-to rereads. They are angst free, fun, and full of kids and pets. Fire is one of my favorite characters and I was so happy that he got his mate and HEA. I loved that he didn't have to change who he was to have a family. He's so cute when he's trying to be stern. And being able to hear all the pets, that was totally cool.

Series: (Tales of the High Court Book 3)
Author: Megan Derr

My thoughts: I snatched up the audiobook for this as soon as it came out. Tales of the High Court is one of my favorite series that I often reread. I love Kamir and how he fights to free himself from his dreadful family and that vile ex-husband. Michael Stellman does an excellent job narrating the story. <3

Series: (Casey Duncan Novels, Book 1)
Author: Kelley Armstrong

My thoughts: This past year, I went back and reread some books that I remember liking and found that I don't like them so much now. I didn't want to tempt fate with Armstrong's Otherworld series (which admittedly, I mainly read the series for the werewolves). Instead, I decided to try one of her newer series and really liked it. It's a mystery within a mystery with a bunch of flawed and/or damaged characters.

Series: Nora Jacobs, 1
Author: Jackie May

My thoughts: This is a slow (slow) burn romance series that has kept me guessing (and ranting). There is a wide range of magical characters that goes beyond the vampire shifter staple. Not only is the romance really slow, but each book uncovers something new about Nora as she helps others out. I'm not finished with the series yet but I have ideas. LOL

Series: Fae Out of Water, 1
Author: EJ Russell

My thoughts: This twist on Beauty and the Beast was both cute and fun. David is a walking disaster when it comes to his temp jobs and Alun is prejudice and grumpy, something that doesn't stick around for the whole story. When David did the Zombie-esque YMCA dance, I about laughed myself off the couch and had to stop the audiobook so I wouldn't miss anything. Great book.

Thank you for stopping by and reading!!
