What's on the Reading Radar? #WishList

Well, today (Saturday) snuck up on me. Yesterday, I thought it was Wednesday, so imagine my surprise when my husband started talking about weekend plans last night (and me realizing that I wasn't prepared!).

So today's Radar is going to be about, "Is this book for me?"

I download a lot of samples to see if the book is something that grabs my interest. I always have a slew of them waiting for me to look . This is a short list (because I'm not going to have time at the moment to list all of the samples I downloaded this week). All the authors on this list are new to me, meaning I haven't read anything by them before, and with the exception of one, they haven't crossed my browsing history before.

Title: Sky's Edge
Series: Tales from the Skies, 1
Author: Jessica Wood
Length: 241 pages

Genre: Alternate Universe / Diesel Punk / Historical / Cops / Mob / Gay / Trans? /

Notes: I love genre mashups and this one was recommended in a group, but I can't remember the details given. Which I like so that I can discover on my own without other's opinions. And when I was assembling this post, I noticed this and the sequel are on sale for $0.99 cents.

Blurb: It’s never easy to kill a man. Especially one you’re falling in love with.

Over York City, 1928.

Alcohol is banned throughout the Empire, including the sky cities. But that doesn’t mean you can’t find any, so long as you know where to look.

When police detective Rory Sullivan is assigned to go undercover to the Sky’s Edge speakeasy, he takes the job willingly. He’s been out for revenge on the Hell’s Alley Gang, who run the illegal and magically-hidden establishment, ever since they killed his father. But Rory doesn’t expect to meet the charming and beautiful drag queen, Lacey Liscious. He is even more surprised to discover she is actually Colin Gilbert - the son of the Don and one of the mob’s most deadly hitmen. As Rory closes in to enact his revenge, the Don also tasks Colin with killing the detective and tossing his body over the city’s edge.

But the more time Rory and Colin spend together as friends, the closer they become. And the more Rory spends in the hidden, underground sections of Over York, the more he realises the mob may not be the villains he believed. How can Rory and Colin kill each other when they’re also falling in love? And how can they keep their newfound relationship a secret?

Peaky Blinders meets Firefly in this exciting dieselpunk series.

Tales from the Skies is set in the same universe as the Tales From Undersea series, but can be read on its own.

This story has mature themes and content.

Series: Chaos Menagerie, 1
Author: Roan Rossner
Length: 256 pages

Genre: Urban Fantasy / Paranormal / Humor / Queer /

Notes: I saw this in a group and thought it looked cute. I enjoy UF and with the promised cuteness I wanted to see if it was something that I'd like. The author seems to be really new.

Blurb: When you have chaos magic, the only thing you can do is expect the unexpected.

Zombies. Shoestorms. Illicit unicorn rides. A talking red panda.

Before today Max never believed in magic, despite bad luck so terrible he used to jokingly call it a curse. Now he’s a reluctant believer. His first day as a mage he draws the attention of the magic police, not to mention the mysterious hooded figures chasing him all over downtown Portland trying to kill him with magic.

With the help of his new speed-demon red panda familiar, his fortune-telling neighbor, a gadget-obsessed witch, a grumpy vampire, and his maybe-brother, Max needs to learn to use his chaos magic, and quickly, or his ‘curse’ is going to be the end of him and the people he loves.

Series: Blackrose Brotherhood, 1
Author: Ariana Nash
Length: 300 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Vampires / Gay

Notes: I love vampire romances and I'm happy to see them come back in demand. I have been eyeballing Ariana Nash's work for a while now but whenever I get ready to start something, I catch wind of talk about angsty and hurt/comfort and neither one of those are my go-to trope. Depending on how I'm feeling I can't do angsty at all. But vampires. Hopefully, the sample will give me an idea of how angsty this is and it's something I'll be okay with.

Blurb: Twelve immortals, twelve outcasts, one mission.

To kill their own kind, before it’s too late.

Detective, killer, vigilante. Eric Sharpe is tired of watching criminals walk free. When a lowlife drug dealer kills his partner and escapes justice, Eric plots his own revenge. His plan is faultless but for one thing: the handsome, mysterious man who arrives moments before Eric’s plan comes to fruition. Not only does the mysterious man know Eric’s an undercover cop, he knows exactly what Eric did fifteen years ago—an event so traumatic Eric has been trying to bury it ever since. And the mysterious man? Fifteen years ago, Eric killed him.

Now he’s back to reclaim what’s his: Detective Eric Sharpe.

Immortal, predator, vampire. After betraying himself and the Blackrose Brotherhood fifty years ago, Zaine can’t afford another mistake. There’s one rule above all others the Brotherhood stand by. One rule that can never be broken. Never, ever care. All Zaine has to do is hunt and kill the savage nyktelios vampires and keep his head down. And he was doing just fine until he saved Detective Eric Sharpe from a vicious vampire attack. He can’t stop thinking about the intelligent, handsome, haunted man. Walking away is the right thing to do, but the detective and Zaine are hunting the same killer—a vampire who knows more about both of them and the Brotherhood than anyone realizes.

A vampire seeking to bring down the Brotherhood for good.

Zaine can’t walk away. Eric won’t walk away. The vampire must be stopped, Brotherhood rules be damned, and they’ll go down fighting together to end him.

Series: Cruel Shifterverse, 1
Author: Jasmine Mas
Length: 330 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / RH?

Notes: I've read enough of PNR that I've pretty much stopped reading it and turned to rereading my past favorites. I would like something new and different and I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. This blurb was vague enough that I got the sample.

Blurb: Fight like a girl...or a shifter of lore.

After growing up with nothing, I've finally found my path to freedom: I'm a shifter, an elite soldier who transforms into a monster.

All I have to do is survive.

I didn't count on my three 6'5 roommates. Covered in tattoos, jeweled, and horned, these are like no men I've ever dealt with before.

They don't think I belong.
They don't think I'm strong enough for war.
They don't think I can fight.

I'm about to prove them wrong.

The only problem, can I survive them discovering the secrets of my past? In the battle for life and death, everyone is so much more than they seem.

Jax, Ascher, and Cobra are going to be devastated when they discover my truth...just wait until they see my shifted form.

Series: Operations Colonise
Author: Millie Lowelle
Length: 125 pages

Genre: Romance / Sci-Fi / Aliens

Notes: I got a sample of this because I wanted to read book three which is M/M. Since there seems to be a series story arc I thought I would see how things went from book one. It's a novella, so quickish reads and the sample is intriguing. I was looking for a Sci-Fi Romance where the woman wasn't kidnapped and this seemed a step outside of that trope.

Blurb: A jungle planet of Naga Aliens, who are civilised, allies, and sexy as hell? What's not to like?! The Ucfeni require a sponsorship program with any humans who will be living in their society. At a pairing party, if an Ucfeni finds your scent to be compatible, they will offer to be your sponsor. Enter Hannah, a scrappy human woman who thinks she's come all this way to Thelia to be her genius sister's keeper during their colonisation efforts. The Ucfeni have other ideas. There are currently 4 books in the Operation Colonisation series, each going live 2 months in between. There are strong sexual themes in this story, and it has a happy ending.

Thank you for stopping by and reading!!
