Well, that didn't turn out like we expected. One, we couldn't find anyplace that sold duck. They were all out and the smallest turkey at the last store we went to was 15 pounds. I bought it, now determined that we would have a dinner.
Oh, boy, Thursday came and we made biscuits and dutch apple pie, threw the turkey in the oven. It was done an hour ahead of schedule and we scrambled to put together everything else. Fancy dressing, roasted asparagus, braised red potatoes, a cherry wine sauce that I made with a damned good bottle of Merlot. (Me pouring wine in the skillet then taking a drink. Coming back a couple minutes later, I determine there isn't enough wine in the sauce. Pour more wine, take another drink. The bottle didn't last.)
After everything was finished, we looked at each other and said, "I'm not hungry."
We then covered the dishes and went into the living room to watch a movie. Several hours later we did finally eat but it was definitely not your typical Thanksgiving dinner.
Now I wait for the weekend sales--so I can buy more books.
