What's on the Reading Radar? #TBR #WishList #read #reading

Another busy week... and my office is finally coming together!!! There has been lots of painting, sanding, staining, and polyurethaning.  We had a problem with the legs of the desk, the wall not being straight and the floor not being quite level. So we ordered some adjustable furniture levelers. We still need to build some book shelves and maybe a printer stand, but I have a desk!! Having a dedicated work space again will be AWESOME. You just don't know. LOL

Title: Finch

Series: A Forbidden Desires Spin-Off Story

Author(s): Piper Scot, Virginia Kelly

Length: 290 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Shifters / Dragons / Mpreg / Gay /

Notes: This is my favorite book of the series. Hugh's obliviousness is as endearing as much as it is funny. You just want to grab Finch and hug the stuffing out of him.

BlurbHugh Drake, the most whimsical member of the Drake family, wants a clutch badly… and despite his sanctioned period to reproduce nearing its end, he just might get his wish. New information has emerged that suggests Disgraces are dragons and able to bear eggs. All that’s left to do is find one Hugh can tolerate, and who better to help him find his perfect match than his steadfast and faithful secretary, Finch?

If only Finch were a Disgrace, but alas. Some things simply aren’t meant to be.

Sensible and straightforward Finch has served as Hugh Drake’s secretary for over a decade, and secretly loved him for just as long. Hugh is the light of his life, but he’s also entirely too gullible, which is why Finch refuses to believe his claim that Disgraces are dragons. They’re not. Finch would know, since he is one. But that little fact will have to stay a secret, because Finch would rather his love go unnoticed than be the one who breaks his dragon’s heart when he fails to produce a clutch.

Finch is an 80,000 word hilarious omegaverse mpreg-ish romance set following the events of the Forbidden Desires series. It contains an adorably clueless dragon, a faithful secretary whose heart is invested in more than just his job, the best Funfetti cake ever, “slippery” situations, and a single amethyst cufflink. For maximum enjoyment, Finch is best read following the events of Clutch, Bond, Mate, Swallow, and Magpie.

Title: Clockwork Dragon

Series

Author(s): Kaye Draper

Length: 249 pages

Genre: Romance / Steampunk / Fantasy / Poly-RH /

Notes

BlurbBlythe Li is a wellspring—a vessel containing magic that can only be used by a magi. The only problem is, women aren’t supposed to be wellsprings. In a world where powerful female magic workers rule, and vulnerable male wellsprings must follow the rigid social norms meant to keep their magic pure from corruption, Blythe doesn’t fit in anywhere. She can’t actually use magic, the way a woman should. Wellsprings can’t own property and have very little in the way of basic rights. And Blythe has no hope of making a fortuitous match and becoming a magi’s favored lover and pet, the way a male wellspring would. Instead, she’s an embarrassment and burden to her parents, who already have a house full of normal boy wellsprings to marry off. Blythe’s world is turned upside down when a commission for a clockwork dragon ends with a proposal she never could have imagined—and leaves her bonded to the future queen of the Imperial American States. But this is no Cinderella story.

Blythe’s future wife, Raina, is engaged in a quiet, deadly battle of politics and power with the current regent as she approaches her coming of age and her ascension to the throne. Blythe soon finds herself fighting alongside Raina for every freedom she’s ever dared dream of, as they try to completely remake a kingdom. But will Raina’s efforts to gather the support of a misfit court with the magic of only a pair of newly bonded wellsprings be enough to save them all from accusations of treason, murder, and all-out war?

Clockwork Dragon is an “outside the box” romance of monarchy and mayhem. It is set against a rich steampunk regency backdrop in an alternate world where magic has influenced the development of technologies and nations, and where Regency and Victorian era gender norms are reversed. It features a clockwork dragon guard dog, an irreverent and intimidating future queen, a metal-worker-turned-consort, and a poly relationship with a vessel of fire and air. Oh, and airships…plenty of airships. This story includes diverse characters and LGBTQIA elements, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, and poly romance, as well as reversed and fluid gender norms.

Title: Impossibly Fond

Series

Author(s): Tanya Chris

Length:  211 pages

Genre: Romance / Fantasy / Redemption / Gay /

Notes: The cover is what made me stop and look. I've been in the mood for grumpy characters and this one might be more self-centered than grumpy. But it sounds like there is character growth that might be cute and hinting at some humor.

BlurbWhen a hostile leprechaun forces an inept wizard to flub the spell he’s casting on a mini-giant, the result can only be… fondness? Waltham has accidentally spelled Ian into liking him, and now his hostage/windfall, aka Mindy, insists he fix it before she’ll turn over the pot of gold she rightfully owes him.

Waltham’s figure is as stringy as his hair, and his words are as sharp as his nose. He’s a selfish, greedy fledgling wizard with a ratty hat and a worse attitude. There’s no way someone as handsome and kindhearted as Ian would like him without magic in play. But as the three reluctant companions set out on a quest to assemble the ingredients for an anti-spell, a different kind of magic happens. Ian’s unflagging belief that Waltham is worthy of love makes Waltham begin to wish it were true.

There are grasshopper gonads to be collected, moonbeam crystals to be harvested, kitten tears to be wrung, and somewhere, at the end of the rainbow, a pot of gold to be won. But if Waltham can overcome his upbringing and mend his ways, then maybe—once the spell has been lifted—something real will remain.
