What's on the Reading Radar? #reading #TBR #WishList

This is what happens when I get cocky. See the paragraph below in parenthesis? That was the intro to last Saturday's Reading Radar that I never finished. Yep. That is all the further I got when creating the post the Thursday before. Complete forgot about it then Friday buzzed by, and I was half way through Saturday when I realized I had scheduled nothing. I'm going to have to start working on this post at the beginning of the week instead of leaving it for the end.

I have been more forgetful than usual the last couple of months. I chalk that up to all the editing. I get really focused on it and time flies, just not in a fun way since--> I'm editing. Plus, I'm doing all things prep for a new release. Looking for intriguing quotes and making memes. Wondering if I should finally branch out to Instagram, Tiktok, or perhaps post more on Twitter. I can talk about what I'm reading or want to read all day long into infinity. But to promote my own stuff, I freeze. Do you know how hard it is to break a life long habit about not talking about yourself? I've been working on breaking that unhealthy, ingrained teaching... is it teaching? It's was something that was stressed while growing up so I'm going to say teaching. Anyway, still working on breaking that teaching and every year I swear it is going to be different! LOL!

So back to what I was saying, with Cherish approaching completion, I've been preparing for it's release... once I release it from edits, but that is another blog post. Today, is about what I've been reading, want to read, or what I put on the wish list because I've already spent my book budget.

(It's so weird that the week goes by so fast. I cannot believe that we are already on the last half of August. I'm chugging through Cherish's edits, making memes for it's upcoming release, and trying to make a list of blog topics. If I get enough topics, I'll schedule a blog tour. Reading has been a bit all over the place.)

Series: Simply Crafty Paranormal Mystery, 3
Author(s): Lissa Casey
Length:

Genre: Romantic / Mystery / Urban Fantasy / Paranormal as in Spooky / Gay

Notes: This is one of my favorite series! It's not coming out until September 23rd, though. For some reason I thought I missed its release. But then, I woke up this morning thinking it was two days from now. LOL I can't wait for this book!

Blurb: His brother vanished into the shadows. Taken or possessed?

Alex can see ghosts and demons. It’s not a gift he asked for, but recent events have made his abilities impossible to deny. When his brother Lukas goes missing, walking off camera in the middle of a ghost hunting video, Alex fears the worst.

As Alex searches for Lukas, a long list of secrets, lies, and omissions come to light. Including Lukas’s recent departure from the police force and the death of a fellow cop.

Alex has to face what he can see, the ghosts, and maybe even a demon or two, if he wants his brother back. But he’s afraid once he lets the shadows in, they may take over and never leave.

Series: (Here Be Dragons Book 1)
Author(s): Louisa Masters
Length: 179 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Gay

Notes: I love that Percy got his HEA. This is an adorable book, dragons are like puppies.

Blurb: Note to self: You can’t teach an old dragon new tricks… he likes to invent his own.

After half a century of chaos, my retirement from leading the Community of Species Government has been bliss. No more hellhounds playing pranks. No more snippy demons demanding my attention. No more cajoling money from the wealthy to support the community. Just peace while I avoid my overbearing father and try to work out what my next steps will be.

Although… maybe three years of peace is enough. It might even be starting to get… boring. In fact, an adolescent dragon crash-landing on my landlord’s shed is just the kind of excitement I need—especially when he brings his species leader to my door.
Brandt. Wing leader of all dragons, suave, sexy, and… slightly unhinged. It doesn’t take much for him to convince me to give up my solitude and spend some time getting to know him. It’s hard to care about the future when I’ve got a dragon of my own to “play” with. Naked dragon rides for the win, right?

But Brandt’s the leader of his people, on call for them all the time, and I’ve left that part of my life behind me. Plus my father insists I should fulfil my duty to the family by getting a nine-to-five job and “marrying well.” That’s not what I want, but riding herd on a group of beings who fly, breathe fire, and could literally crush me beneath their feet would be a huge challenge, especially since Brandt’s kind of loose with rules.

It all comes down to how much I want my very own dragon ever after.

This exciting spin-off from the Hidden Species series kicks off with Percy's story.

Series: (The Beacon Hill Sorcerer Book 5)
Author(s): SJ Himes
Length: 294 pages

Genre: Romance / Urban Fantasy / Gay

Notes: Who hasn't been waiting for this book! It releases August 31st.

Blurb: Apprenticed to the infamous Necromancer of Boston while on the brink of death, Daniel Macavoy has seen a lot of upheaval in his life since that fateful day. Rescued from an abusive father and the monster he was once enslaved by, Daniel has struggled with the traumas that scarred his heart and mind.

Yet with the love and support of his found family, Daniel has become stronger than he ever imagined. A capable sorcerer, he's been entrusted with the ancestral home of the Salvatores, the legendary site of the Massacre that brought an end to the centuries-long Blood Wars between the Salvatores and the Macavoys. The huge Mansion is a testament to old-school magic, high sorcery, and comes with a history almost as impressive as the enigmatic fae warrior who calls the gardens home.

A member of the nearly extinct High Court Sidhe, Rory remembers when humans climbed down from trees and learned to stand upright. After eons spent hand in hand with his twin, Cian, Rory was struck down by a near-fatal sword blow; he slept for centuries only to be resurrected by the Necromancer of Boston. Once awakened, Rory lost his twin to a mortal prison, sentenced for heinous crimes committed in an effort to save Rory while he slept.

Once worshipped as a god, Rory Brennan is learning what it means to exist in a modern mortal world. Rory finds that for the very first time, true love has found its way into his immortal heart. Daniel and Rory grow closer, love springing to life in the narrowing space between them. But their nascent bond is threatened by strangers attempting to break into the Mansion, and by the ever-growing danger to Rory's twin Cian, locked in the depths of Blackguard Prison.

With the danger increasing from all sides, Daniel and Rory struggle to balance surviving with falling in love. A dragon with a growth spurt isn't helping matters, and his mentor's watchful eye makes things both more awkward and potentially lethal.

LOVE SPRINGS ETERNAL is the fifth book in the bestselling Beacon Hill Sorcerer series and should not be read as a standalone. The content advisory can be found on the Copyright page, please download a sample of this book or use the Look Inside feature. 113,000 words.

Series: (A Magically Hellish Comedy (with a body count) Book 1)
Author(s): RJ Blain
Length:

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Notes: This is a spinoff of my favorite series by Blain. I've been reading a chapter here and there. As expected there is circuitous conversation. It's going to be a trilogy.

Blurb: Step one: add some gasoline.
Step two: light a match.
Step three: watch the devil’s house burn.

As far as plans go, Sandra Moore rather likes hers. It’s simple. It gets the job done. It reduces the devil’s house to smoldering ruins. Life is good—at least for the year she has left of it, assuming the devil doesn’t kill her first.

Instead of the quick end and the retribution she deserves, Sandra gets the client from hell for the case of a lifetime, one that could forever change the war between the heavens and the devil’s many hells.

Series: Olympus Pride Series, Book 1
Author(s): Suzanne Wright
Length:

Genre: Romance / Paranormal /

Notes: So. I have read a few books of Wright's Demon series, not in order because I'm moody. LOL! I was looking for something different and decide to give this a go even though I haven't read any of her other shifter series. This is a little on the dark side because the Pallus cat shifters have no mercy and if you cross them you die. There is not going to jail or anything. The love interest is a wolverine and I have to say that he is seriously bad@ss. After this book I read the next one and started the other two shifter series, though I did not read them in order. It has been a seriously long time since I've binged on a world. I'm not finished with the other series because, like I said, I'm moody, but now I have a couple of books waiting on me when I'm in this mood again. I would definitely recommend with a warning that some of them have more violence than others with the opposition dying, sometimes dying hard.

Blurb: Cat shifter Bree Dwyer doesn't fear much. Ironically, what she fears most is the person who was put on the Earth just for her. Your true mate wasn't supposed to be cruel and twisted; wasn't supposed to be someone who'd never love or want to claim you. The rumors that her true mate is dead bring her only relief. Bree's intent on moving forward with her life and building a future with someone else. Sadly, the male she wants most is one she can never have - a hot-as-sin wolverine shifter who happens to be her boss...and the cousin of her predestined mate.

Aleksandr "Alex" Devereaux detests being bullshitted, but he's been lying to himself for years - pretending he thinks of Bree as extended family; that he doesn't want her so bad he aches with it; that he can't feel himself weakening against her pull. The night they spend together changes everything. He's done fighting himself on what he wants. Someone isn't happy about that. Possibly the same "someone" who's playing mind games with Bree, trying to scare her. They're succeeding, because too many leads point to the possibility that the culprit could be the one person that she's determined to believe is dead.

What's on the Reading Radar? #reading #WishList #TBR

What have I been doing this week? Cherish's manuscript didn't stay with the proofreader for long. I've been going though the edits and doing a thorough reread. I imagine that I'll have a release date selected soon. :)

As for reading, this week I'm looking at recent releases that I have been waiting for. I haven't read them yet since I've been working on a couple of other projects, but they are on my TBR list and waiting for me. :D

Title: Shadowed
Series: Treasured Series, 2
Author(s): Cari Z.
Length:

Genre: Romance / Suspense / Urban Fantasy / Gay /

Notes:

Blurb: After a rocky start, Daniel Hart and Rhys Daveth are looking forward to putting the past behind them and spending a private, romantic Christmas together in Venice. Trouble follows their trail, however, and after only a few days together Rhys is drugged and kidnapped by agents of an espionage program that he fled from years ago. Daniel barely escapes being taken as well, and is found by another party interested in Rhys: fellow thieves who tracked him down once they realized he was being hunted.

Time is flying and Daniel will have to trust a new magic between him and Rhys, a connection he doesn’t understand, to try and find him before it's too late. The consequences might be dangerous, but if he doesn’t use his strange ability to find Rhys, the man he loves will be lost forever.

Title: Resist
Series: Captured Earth, 1
Author(s): TJ Nichols
Length:

Genre: Romance / Sci-Fi / Action-Adventure / Gay

Notes:

Blurb: Capture is a soldier’s worst fear, but all his training couldn’t prepare Sergeant Josh Rayne for what it meant to be caught by the alien invaders, who have claimed the desert in Western Australia.

Josh believes he is the only man left alive from the teams sent out to spy on the aliens, but in the alien prison, he is reunited with his lover and fellow soldier Xavier Fisher. There is no time to celebrate though as Xavier is gravely injured and in need of medical care.

With the exfil date fast approaching, they have to escape before the ship leaves without them.

Book one in the Captured Earth trilogy. For readers who like action, explosions, and don’t mind a little gore with their gay romance.

Title: Captured
Series: (Star Marked Warriors Book 1)
Author(s): Sam Burns, WM Fawkes
Length: 222 pages

Genre: Romance / Aliens / Sci-Fi / Gay

Notes:

Blurb: An alien prince, a threatened throne, and the human mate who can help him save it…

Lucas: Sure, my life isn’t going exactly according to plan—I have a degree that led nowhere, a crappy job as a closing-shift barista, and an ex who has everything I want and got it . . . by dumping my sorry ass—but that doesn’t mean I’m willing to give up on living yet! And holy crap, when I’m plucked off the sidewalk of my rural Colorado town on the very night of my ex’s wedding, I’m pretty damn sure I’m about to lose my life and a whole lot more.

If you’ve never tried flying, I do not recommend the first time be when you’re drunk and alone at two in the morning. But there I was, dumped in a cage on a spacecraft, surrounded by barbarous, giant blue aliens. And the only thing that might keep me safe is there’s one huge, intimidating warrior who can’t keep his eyes off me.

Kaelum: I am the true-born son of the King Xyren the Imperator, but as a Thorzi-human hybrid, my path to the throne of Thorzan is far from clear. My father’s people are enormous and foreboding, their skin is the deep dark of twilight when our planet’s twin stars set. I am not. My enemies think I am small, soft, incapable, and they dog my every step.

If I am to take my rightful place, I must focus on saving my people. But my mother was born on a far-away blue planet called Earth. In my bones, I know the answer to my problems hides out there beyond the stars.

By popular cowriting duo Sam Burns & W.M. Fawkes, Captured is an M/M SciFi alien romance with a warrior prince, a resourceful human at the end of his rope, an intergalactic war that could keep them apart forever, and true love that’s entirely out of this world! This book is first in the Star Marked Warriors series, but each book can be read as standalone. This series does not contain mpreg.

Series: The Nightshade Guild
Author(s): Sheri Lyn
Length: 77 pages

Genre: Romance / Fantasy / Poly / Gay

Notes: This is part of a series that is a shared universe with other authors. I was just looking through the others and there is another gay romance in the group. They are all short stories or novellas, so quick reads.

Blurb: Cale Cawthorn is one of twelve mages tasked with protecting Princess Ameria. Like his guildmates, he wasn't prepared to care for a toddler for a month. Especially not at his home in literal hell. Granted it's a safe space, but he needs help and who better than his best friend Turak.

Turak couldn't believe Cale had seven months to prepare for the arrival of Ameria and he did nothing. He could have read a book at the very least, but the mage was too stubborn. Thankfully he had a demon at his side to help. Together they could handle anything that came their way... right?

Marek felt like he'd spent all his time watching Cale and Turak from a distance. Their friendship intrigued him, their flirting amused him. Until Princess Ameria arrived and he couldn't sit back and watch anymore. The men needed help and it was his duty to be of assistance.

Series:
Author(s): JE Ridge
Length: 360 pages

Genre: Romance / Fantasy / Gay

Notes:

Blurb: A Tale of Two Kings

Bellacosta and Arnsveld have been on the verge of war for half a century. Both have new kings—sweet, uncertain Silas and Archer the Warrior King—giving them an opportunity to find a peaceful solution. When the negotiations are sabotaged, drastic measures must be taken. Sometimes you have to steal a king to save a kingdom.

Title: Encore
Series: Valleywood, 2
Author(s): Trisha Linde
Length: 168 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Magic / Mpreg

Notes: This is a multi-author universe.

Blurb: Everyone deserves a second chance. Unless, of course, you leave your true love at the altar... then you deserve to be cursed.

Omega actor Kai Carroll has it all: money, fame, popularity… everything except love. He was betrayed by the man he thought was his true love years ago, and he swears he will never love again. When the tabloids explode with scandal, Kai finds himself kicked to the curb. Jobless, friendless… unless you count the borderline harassment he gets from his number-one fan—which he doesn’t. Turns out, the perfect life he worked so hard for is nothing more than a mirage. When his agent calls with a mysterious offer to act in a play in Valleywood, he has no choice but to accept the role. What does he have to lose… right?

Alpha shifter Daniel Agassi lost everything eight years ago, and he swears he doesn’t know how it happened. There he was, just minding his own business, living his best life, when out of nowhere—BAM!—he found himself stuck in his cat form. He couldn’t shift back to tell his true love, Kai, that he never intended to leave him at the altar. And since then, he’s been trapped, without any way to send word. Instead, he’s been a pissed-off pet for almost a decade. When the spell is finally broken, his only goal is to reconnect with Kai. The only problem? The omega is no longer the man he used to be. Then again, the same could be said for Daniel.

Encore is book 2 of the highly anticipated multi-author series, Valleywood, a bustling city struggling with its hold on magic. Encore is a drama-filled mpreg romance featuring a grumpy cat shifter who's tired of being caged, an omega who swears he's done with love, and a second-chance love affair years in the making.

Series: (Mythically Royal Book 1)
Author(s): Lorelei M. Hart, Colbie Dunbar
Length: 197 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Mpreg / Gay

Notes: I don't think this is daddy/little kink, though I might be wrong.

Blurb: I swam from my future only to find my daddy.

Alpha wolf shifter Alton heard the call of the sea from his pack’s territory in the mountains. Yet it’s only in the wake of his father’s death that he follows destiny’s current to the shoreline. While his soul finds peace during the day, listening to the gently lapping waves, at night his dreams are haunted by long suppressed memories.

Through those flashes of moments long forgotten, Alton realizes he’s there for more than a new start. It’s up to him to right the wrongs of the past…

As next in line for the throne, omega merman Merrik’s entire life has been arranged for him. Which means an alpha has been chosen for him. Unfortunately, even the idea of this mating makes Merrik’s skin crawl. That leaves him with only one choice: leave his underwater kingdom and cross his fingers the whole situation blows over.

Little does he know, fate has other plans. No sooner do his toes sink into the sand, than Merrik feels the unmistakable pull of the mate bond. The fact that it’s to a human would have been shocking enough, but to a smexy wolf bearing the mark of the forbidden ones is downright scandalous. His father may never forgive him, yet Merrik can’t deny he aches for Alton’s touch. Can the love they share rewrite their peoples’ sordid history? Or will it come crashing down like white-capped waves on a rocky shoreline?

The Merman Prince’s Daddy is the first book in the Mythically Royal series featuring princes who find their happily ever after. The Merman Prince’s Daddy features a merman who’d rather not be prince, a shifter who didn’t know mermen were real, an underwater kingdom that rivals Atlantis, adorable babies, and a first-time royal heat. If you love your omegas mythical, all things mermen, hawt daddies who adore taking care of their omegas, shifters, your mpreg with heart, and true love, this series by the popular co-author team of Lorelei M. Hart and Colbie Dunbar is for you.

Cover Reveal! Cherish (The Valespian Pact, 4) #lgbtqia #scifi

Cover Real for Cherish the next book in the Valespian Pact series!

I had anticipated that I would finish Cherish in February of this year. *looks at calendar* Obviously, I was wrong. And it wouldn't be the first time I thought, 'this will be done by X', only to acknowledge my forecasting skills are sorely lacking. 😂 Then again, I always think the book have a much lower page count as well. (And if the book was the page count I thought it would be, then it would have been done by the time I originally expected! just sayin' LOL)

The book is undergoing edits. I don't have a release date yet, but will soon, I think.

What's on the Reading Radar? #TBR #WishList #read #reading

What am I doing? Edits, y'all. It's like they were never ending. When I started to see the end, I pushed hard, but it meant that I put somethings on the back burner. Grocery shopping. The Reading Radar... But now Cherish is off to the next person, I have time to catch up on things.

Series: Pillars of Magic: Dark Awakening
Author: Lissa Kasey
Length: 285 pages

Genre: Romantic Elements / Urban Fantasy / Mystery / Vampires / Gay

Notes:

Blurb: Someone has raised his old vampire lover from the dead.

When a golem shows up on campus, Seiran searches for a way to unravel it and find its creator. But it is animated with vampire souls and the golem may not be the only one. When he realizes a necromancer is raising the undead from their slumber, Seiran finds himself face to face with a lover he thought long gone.

Gabe went to ground over a decade ago to silence the revenant gaining foothold inside of him. When he is yanked from the earth, his memory a mess of shattered fragments, he finds himself bound to a very powerful witch he doesn’t remember. And someone is trying to use his power to summon the dead.

An army of the dead awakens, and Seiran and Gabe are the only thing standing in the way of a shift in global power. Can they rise to the change or will they become the next victims?

Series:
Author: R. Cooper
Length:

Genre: Romance / Fantasy / Poly / Gay

Notes:

Blurb: Everyone expects the king to rage at the suggestion that he find a new spouse to stand alongside--or better yet, replace--his beloved husband. Some might be planning on it, hoping to incite another conflict like what has plagued the country since the death of the last legitimate ruler. But to everyone’s surprise, the infamous Traitor King, Arden Canamorra, reacts to the suggestion with amusement, perhaps even interest.

Decades of chaos ended with Arden’s ascension to the throne. But many in the oldest noble families want more influence over the crown--noble influence, that is. Not from the king’s lower-rank and somewhat rough palace guard husband, Mil. They don’t care that Mil is a hero who helped secure peace at Arden’s side, and that, at least among the common people, Arden and Mil’s love story is legendary.

Mattin, however, is outraged. A librarian at the royal library and advisor to the king despite his relatively young age, Mattin deeply admires the royal couple. That they happen to also be incredibly attractive is something he very determinedly ignores. If Arden and Mil are going to marry again for political purposes--since Mattin is sure no new love could ever match their great passion for each other--he will at least find someone perfect for them. If thinking about it makes Mattin miserable, well, he ignores that, too.

But the king and his husband seem less interested in meeting appropriate nobles and more interested in fussing over Mattin while making plans of their own. It’s a more complicated matter than an innocent librarian could have realized, with more at risk than just his heart. The most suitable consort might not be enough to appease certain nobles, but the most beloved might win over the entire country.

What's on the Reading Radar? #TBR #WishList #read

This has been the week, like last week, of edits and more edits. I needed to add a couple more chapters (advice from editor) and those went back to the editor at the beginning of the week. Still working on the blurb for Cherish. It's either blah blah or gives too much away. I'm at the point where I'm ready to be completely done with this manuscript but it still needs me. LOL

Series:
Author: Mary Calmes
Length: 338 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Alternate Universe / Alpha-Omega Dynamics / Gay /

Notes: This was different than what I expected when it comes to omega. There are similarities with omega's being considered objects, but Avery's parents/family with how he's treated and raised is kinda of flipping the bird at convention and tradition. I love that this has a non-toxic alpha male, too. This balances the possessiveness with a willingness/love to allow Avery to be himself and to do what he loves. I wish it was a series. Not that I wanted more from these two MCs because I like where this HEA, but I want Lynden's (sorry for the spelling, I listened to the audio not sure of the spelling) romance. I would love to see him get his HEA.

Blurb: You belong to me and I know it down deep, in muscle and bone, where my wolf lives.

Avery Rhine isn’t an average homicide detective with the Chicago PD. In fact, Avery isn’t an average anything. Sure, as an omega he knows he’s at the bottom of the food chain, but that’s never slowed him down. He’s got a great life, complete with a loving family and a best friend who’d take a bullet for him, so what more could he possibly want or need? Except, maybe, for the world to change. And to find someone to spend more than one night with, but that isn’t high on his list of priorities. He’s never been one to believe in destiny or whatever else the fantasies sell about there being someone special out there meant just for him.

Then a chance encounter at a party changes everything.

Graeme Davenport has no delusions about finding his true mate. The consensus is that if an alpha doesn’t find their other half by the time they’re thirty, the chances of it ever happening go from slim to none. He’s not a mere alpha, though; Graeme is a cyne who sits at the pinnacle of lupine hierarchy, so he’s obligated by tradition and duty to choose an omega now, sign a contract, and bond with him. Love is not part of the equation.

When Graeme and Avery meet, their fierce attraction to each other flies in the face of reason and logic. Avery’s intense physical reaction to the alpha is something he’s never experienced before, while Graeme, who has always been the soul of discretion, loses all his inhibitions to desire for the man he wants to possess. They are two very different men trying to navigate expectations, separate reason from innate primal drive, and do it while working together to solve a murder.

It will take everything they are to find a middle ground, and to learn to trust in a fated kind of love.

Title: Fallen
Series: (The Dark in You Book 7)
Author: Suzanne Wright
Length: 283 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal /

Notes: I have read only the first book in this series, but it was a while ago but I still remembered some of the details of the world itself. I didn't have a problem following along after skipping the other books. LOL I just liked the cover and the blurb and gave it a go. I enjoyed and I'm thinking about going back to read the others.

Blurb: Only a few are brave enough to fall . . .

When Raini desperately needed help, she went to the one person who she knew could save her dying friend . . . her secretive and ruthlessly powerful anchor, Maddox. His price was that she grant him access to her life, yet he's still determined not to form the anchor bond with Raini. That rejection stings, even while she can't stop her body - or her demon - reacting to his presence.

Maddox is a descendent, a rare breed of demon possessing angelic blood - and Raini knows he'll let someone close when hell freezes over. As a succubus, she's used to men wanting her uncontrollably - and used to having all the power. But while Maddox wants her strictly on his own terms, for the first time she can remember Raini's struggling to keep her own emotions in check.

Yet when someone - or something - starts to target Raini, Maddox's protectiveness goes into overdrive. Suddenly he's finding it harder to keep his secrets and his distance, for nothing seems to matter as much as Raini. As the threat escalates into all-out war, they both have to decide: can they trust the other to catch them if they fall?

Series: Darkling Mage, 1
Author: Nazri Noor
Length: 305 pages

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Notes: I was introduce to this world with Blood Moon, and I thought I would go back to the beginning. I have about 2 hours left on the audiobook and I'm at that point where I'm yelling at the character to Do Not Go Back! It's a good story.

Blurb: The gods are dying. But for one man, death is only the beginning.

Murdered as a ritual sacrifice, amateur thief and professional charmer Dustin Graves mysteriously survives, finding himself gifted with strange, dark magic. Then more dead bodies turn up. Some are human, but one is a god of the old world, slain at his own doorstep.

Mortal or divine, the bloodshed must end, and Dust is the mage for the job. But first he must contend with a succubus, a talking sword, a spider queen, a goddess of magic, and eldritch abominations from beyond the stars. No big deal… right?

If you like snarky heroes, snappy dialogue, and a bit of grit and gore, you’ll love the first standalone book in Nazri Noor’s series of urban fantasy novels. Explore the Darkling Mage universe and discover a taste of Shadow Magic today.

What's on the Reading Radar? #read #TBR #WishList

I took a couple of days off this week and then editor for Cherish sent edits back to me, so I jumped into that. I really should start gearing up for Cherish's release and start getting the word out. LOL

Series:
Author(s): Megan Derr
Length:

Genre: Romance / Fantasy / Gay /

Notes: This cover is GORGEOUS.

Blurb: The House of Ferro has dominated the city-state of Verona since its creation, made mighty by their magia del ferro, financial acumen, and ties to the imperial throne. The House of Ishikawa arrived on Verona's shores a few years later, made powerful and wealthy by way of their rare, priceless magia d'acqua. A short time later, murder and vengeance exploded into a feud that has lasted for generations—and by decree of Hardegin-principe, will end now or else.

Royal decrees cannot so easily quell generations of hate and bloodshed, but ancient feuds cannot stop love. Determined to be together, young Ferro Carac and Ishikawa Arata decide to run away and leave their families behind. But on the night they depart, Arata is murdered, and Carac is wrongfully blamed for it, betrayed by everyone he trusted.

Fifteen years later, Carac is long dead of disease while in prison, and Verona is abuzz with nervous excitement over the betrothal of Ferro Selinah to Ishikawa Naoki. Unhappy with the pending marriage, Naoki spends most of his time drinking and sleeping. On the way home from a bar one night, accompanied by the sister come to drag him home, they are attacked by a bandit—and saved by an intriguing man who goes by the name of Dante…

Series: Sins of the Father, 1
Author(s): Nazri Noor
Length: 268 pages

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Notes: So when I finished Blood Moon, I bought the audio boxset for this series. But I have been stalking the author's facebook page and it seems that all his books are set in one world and I'm wondering if I need to start his first series first?

Blurb: Half human, half angel, 100% pissed off.

Mason Albrecht’s life changed the day the angels tried to kill him. As the son of a fallen angel king, Mason is an abomination, one who can command the Vestments, divine arms and armor summoned from heaven’s own arsenals. And everybody wants a piece: death witches, demon princes, even deities of ancient myth.

Then an enterprising enchantress offers to cloak Mason from those who would corrupt him into a living weapon. But will Mason run from supernatural entities forever, or embrace his unholy birthright and defy the very forces of heaven and hell?

Sins of the Father is a new adventure from Nazri Noor, bestselling urban fantasy author of the Darkling Mage series. Follow Mason’s first steps in Fallen Reign, a humorous, high-impact supernatural suspense story filled with magic, mythology, and plenty of mayhem.

Title: King Cobra: A Powertools Spinoff
Series: (Hot Rods Book 1)
Author(s): Jayne Rylon
Length: 206 pages

Genre: Erotic Romance / Contemporary / Poly Series / Bisexual /

Notes: Jayne Rylon was the author who introduced me to M/M romance. I read the Hot Rod series a while ago (years, LOL), but you don't have to have read that series to follow this one. This one is about Eli and Alonzo getting their priorities straight and exploring what they want their relationship to be. Though this is about the two of them, it is evident that they will be adding people to relationship as the series goes on. It's a fun quick read with a smidge of angst that is quickly resolved.

Blurb: Growing up in a group of mismatched foster kids from all sides of the tracks, Eli and his partners in the Hot Rods garage have a connection like no other. These bonds, forged in fires set by their personal demons, are unbreakable—or so Eli wants to believe.

He recently walked in on four members of the Powertools construction crew in bed together. All this time, they’d been embracing a lifestyle Eli hadn’t known was possible—one where friends are lovers, and the connections between spouses are strengthened by shared passions.

The only thing stopping Eli from proposing a similar arrangement between himself and his Hot Rods gang is the fear of ruining their friendship or their business.

When he takes too long to figure things out, his head mechanic blows a gasket. Alanso peels out of the Hot Rods garage on his motorcycle, heading for a hook up spot to take his bisexuality for a test drive with multiple strangers. Eli is left with only two options: let Alanso go or chase him down to fight for the future they both desperately desire.

Series: Grave Concerns, 1
Author(s): Jayce Carter
Length:

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / RH

Notes: What a great title. It is why I stopped to look at the book.

Blurb: Ghosts, corpses and four hot men—what's a girl to do?

Abandoned at three—whose parents want a kid who sees ghosts?—I learned the world is quick to punish misfits. I try my best to be a normal, boring human, but the call of the supernatural just won't be ignored.

When a stranger shows up on my doorstep in the middle of the night, it's no sexy tryst. Instead, I'm off to the graveyard, digging up the corpse of a murder victim at the demand of the local vampire coven—and that small felony is just the start.

The spirit of the woman has gone missing—something that shouldn't be possible—and everyone is looking to me for answers. There's Kase, a vampire who's both terrifying and secretive. Grant, a mage with a bad attitude and a lot of power. Troy, the possessive werewolf-detective next door and Hunter, a mysterious bad boy who isn't even close to human.

It's a race not just against time but against everything to figure out where the spirits are going, who's behind it and if I can trust the men who now share my bed.

And all because of a little grave robbing...

What is on the Reading Radar?

Whelp, I didn't post anything last week for the Reading Radar. I got caught up with sending Cherish out to the editor and I immediately jumped into writing Curse Breakers (Sumeria's Legacy). That is Nathan's book that I have been planning and world building on for a couple of years. I had meant to take a couple of weeks off to recharge, but new book energy gripped me and one page turned into another until I wrote 7k in a couple of days.

But, I'm on the ball this week. There are a couple of books that I completed that I really loved and there are a couple other books that I have my eye on.

Title: Blood Moon
Series: Vampire Vigilante, 1
Author(s): Nazri Noor
Length: 244 pages

Genre: Urban Fantasy / Light Mystery / Humor

Notes: I enjoyed this immensely. Nazi Noor has been on my TBR for a while but this is the first I've read by him. I listened to this on audiobook and the narrator, Nick Pedehl, was perfect. He really gave Sterling this panache that I might not have if I'd read this before listening. Sterling was hilarious but also endearing. Though he's vainglorious, I wasn't unsympathetic, especially when I realized that he was hamming it up. I really started worrying a bit for him before I was even half way through the book. I would totally recommend this. It was a perfect read for me.

Blurb: All vampires suck. Sterling just happens to be very good at it.

Vainglorious vampire Sterling is forced to trade his big city hedonism for a trip to a sleepy mountain town, where mangled dead bodies have been discovered. Soon he’s entangled with snooty vampire nobles, territorial werewolves, and a society of law-enforcing sorcerers.

The locals aren’t so bad, like the luscious young lady at the fruit shop, or the hunky electrician whose smile sends out sparks. But they’re distractions from the hunt for the mountain murderer. And then there’s the eerie enigma: why are all these corpses missing their faces?

Title: The Favor
Series:
Author(s): Suzanne Wright
Length: 473 pages

Genre: Romance / Contemporary / Marriage of Convenience / Fake Relationship

Notes: I don't know why I stopped and looked at this book. Y'all know that I rarely read contemporary, much less contemporary romance with only the romance as the main plot line. Something about the cover made me listen to the audio clip. I've read Wright's paranormal series, so I'm familiar with her. But still, fake relationships are not my cuppa, and yet, the clip caught my attention and I went for it without reading the blurb. Sucked me in from the very first. It's a 15 hour audio so I had to split it into two days, both with late nights because I kept saying, "Just one more chapter." Loved it. I'm rereading it. :)

Blurb: Vienna Stratton knew she only had herself to blame. You didn't let yourself become indebted to a man like Dane Davenport, no matter how badly you needed his help. As his personal assistant, she was very aware that the globally successful CEO was ruthless and unforgiving.

Of course, if she'd known he'd request that she be his wife for 12 months, she'd have hesitated in accepting his help. Because what she'd learned from Dane was that the devil wasn't ugly and terrorizing. He was seductive and captivating. He hummed with whispers of temptation - the temptation to sin and surrender, to let him brand and possess you. He awakened every need and fantasy you had.

He could even make you love him.

Series: (The Books of Rue 1)
Author(s): Aisling Wilder
Length: 447 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Vampires / Lesbian

Notes: As of Friday (when I created this post) the book was on sale for $0.99. I'm not sure how long that will last.

Blurb: Ancient vampire Rue keeps to herself. It makes it easier to fight the constant hunger that plagues her. That is, until the night she catches Grace-a not very good vampire hunter-stalking her through the streets of Dublin. Something about Grace is achingly familiar. And strangely irresistible.

Rue soon learns that Grace is herself being hunted, and is thrown into a battle she never wanted, to save a woman who wants her dead. As Rue unravels the horrifying and treacherous plot, she also uncovers a secret about Grace that could change everything. Along the way, Rue finds herself drawn to the girl, and is forced to choose: Continue her solitary life of safety, or risk it all for love?

Through it all, Rue recalls her creation and formative nights in an ancient world far from the rainy streets of Dublin, a world where she learned to live, love, hunt and kill.

Title: Galen
Series: Sons of the Fallen, 1
Author(s): Jaclyn Osborn
Length: 363 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Grumpy & Cinnamon Roll / Gay

Notes: Low Angst and Grumpy & Cinnamon Roll characters! Yes, please.

Blurb: Simon just wants to run his antique shop in peace.

But then he finds a small mysterious box that’s (probably) haunted, and his shop is broken into by the hottest man he’s ever seen who then steals said creepy box.

Now demons are after him and his only hope is to trust the tall, muscled, combat-boot-wearing thief who claims to be the son of a fallen angel.

Galen is charged with protecting humanity from dark forces. Cursed with Wrath, he’s hot-tempered and spends his days fighting demons and trying not to kill his six brothers when they irritate him.
His number one rule? Never fall in love. But then he meets Simon, a clumsy human who asks way too many questions and is—unfortunately—a total demon-magnet, and he starts breaking his own rules.

What’s inside the box, and why do the demons want it so badly? One thing is for sure… Simon can kiss his peaceful, ordinary life goodbye.

Book 1 in the Sons of the Fallen series. A low-angst urban fantasy MM romance featuring a grumpy half-angel and the human he swears he doesn’t like (he’s lying), seven warriors representing the deadly sins, a seaside mansion where they all live, banter, a snarky demon, and a HEA.

Title: Chaos
Series: The Library of the Profane, 1
Author(s): JB Trepagnier
Length:

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / RH

Notes: The Series Title made me stop and look at the blurb. It sounds like it will be funny.

Blurb: The Library of the Profane has everything your black heart desires. But we don’t just allow anyone to get a library card.

Need to summon a demon? Raise the dead? A clan of vampires bothering you? Do you like the really nasty werewolf erotica? The Library of the Profane has all of that, but not everyone can handle the contents (Some people can’t handle their werewolf erotica). I’ve been a librarian here for five years and when I say I killed to get this job, I’m not being facetious.

You can’t check out our books. Some of the books are sentient and don’t like it. We have rooms to perform the spells in or hell, we do have a copy machine (copies are extra). When a witch came in and said they needed to do a little necromancy, I didn’t question it. They wouldn’t have been given a library card if they were going to raise someone really bad. I helped with the necromancy because it’s just my job as a librarian.

Except it wasn’t a normal resurrection. It was the physical embodiment of Chaos and when he woke up, he saw me first and now he’s attached. Chaos personified is a horrible library guest and he won’t leave with the witch who raised him. He’s constantly getting into things he’s not supposed to and he’s really into the werewolf erotica.

It’s not like I can let him out because the Library of the Profane is meant to contain Chaos. The rest of the world isn’t. He’s awful about keeping his identity secret too. A warlock, a Hellhound, and a vampire know he’s here and they are bugging me to let Chaos have a little fun.

I just want a normal day of summoning demons, cursing people, and telling people to be quiet in my library. This is too much.

Thank you for stopping by and reading!!

What is on the Reading Radar? #read #WishList #TRB

So... it is Saturday morning, and I'm hastily putting together this post because I've been caught up with Cherish (The Valespian Pact, 4). I completed my self-edits. Yay! I still have things to do, like write the Author's Note, Acknowledgements, Glossary of Terms, maybe a short character list, and the BLURB. I don't even know where to start on the blurb. The next step is to send it out for the first rounds of edits. I don't have a release date and won't think about planning one until the edits are complete, especially when I don't know how long all the rounds of edits will take.

In the meantime, BOOKS!

Series: (Legends of Lobe den Herren Book 2)
Author(s): AJ Sherwood
Length: 306 pages

Genre: Romance / Fantasy / Gay /

Notes: This was just what I needed. I loved the different POVs and being able see inside the head and hearts of the characters. The empress was pretty crafty. And I cannot tell you how excited I am that O’ Broín is going to get a book. Dude! Just give it to me now!

Blurb: Ren’s homecoming wishlist includes:

•Arman not bashing everyone’s heads together (at least not without him)
•Getting the fortress built before the Mongs attack (not at the rate they’re going with all the thefts happening)
•Going home without incident (also, again, not likely)

What it did not include was:

•Social reform
•A child
•A raiding party
•Arman actually using his words

Life once again proved reality is better than fantasy, and Ren couldn’t be happier.

Except for the Mongs. He could do without the Mongs.

Tags:
Homecoming, Arman actually uses his words, it’s a miracle, children, homophobic idiots, supportive brother, surprise visits from royalty, Ren would like to point out this was not his idea, words are hard, if you have to build a fortress do it right the first time, Arman promises to not beat the whole country to a pulp for scorning his marriage, maybe, no promises, parenting is hard, someone should have warned Arman, raiding parties are their jam, O’ Broín is a good bro, matchmaking, social change, Arman sucks at giving hints, absolutely no one is surprised by this, fantasy becomes reality

Title: Peregrine
Series: Forbidden Desires
Author(s): Piper Scott, Virginia Kelly
Length: 347 pages

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Mpreg / Gay

Notes: So I finally finished reading this. I always liked Sebastian and always thought he was smarter than his brothers because he listened to his inner self/dragon. Through his brother's eyes he was brutish and someone of few words, great at being a destructive dragon, and maybe not too smart. I figured Sebastian had them fooled because he found his mate, and 500 years later, his brothers were still without theirs until Alistar found Nate. But as I was saying, I liked Sebastian and I am glad that I got to read how his romance with Perry unfolded, even with as sad as it sometimes was. If you have read the series, you already know about the guy who keeps playing havoc with the Drakes and their mates. Raven. I'm just going to put it out there right now. I don't think I can read Raven's book. There are things that happened in this book that are, I feel, Raven and Bertram's fault. I might have rolled with if the two had not shown up at the end of this book. I am sure there are a ton of things that I haven't seen about those two, but I don't have a sympathetic bone in my body for either one of them.

Blurb: 1508

Sebastian Drake, stoic protector of the Drake family, always gets what he wants—and there is nothing he wants more than the half-starved Pedigree omega named Peregrine he comes across on his travels. It doesn’t matter that Peregrine is a Disgrace. Sebastian will do whatever it takes to keep him… and somehow, as impossible as it might be, find a way to be his mate.

Present Day

For hundreds of years, Peregrine has enjoyed life as Sebastian’s mate. Sure, as one of the only bonded omegas in recent history he’s been kidnapped more times than he can count, but with Sebastian there to save him it’s little more than an inconvenience. And attacks from hostile clans? That’s just a typical Tuesday.

But there is one thing Peregrine fears, yet desperately wants.

One thing that has hurt him time and time again.

One thing Sebastian can’t save him from.

And now it’s happening again.

He’s pregnant.

Peregrine is an 85,000 word omegaverse mpreg romance set prior to as well as following the events of the Forbidden Desires series. It has answers to questions you’ve been dying to know and contains heartache, laughter, origin stories, meddling reptilian families with huge hearts, exotic locales, a dash of danger, and a love story five hundred years in the making. For maximum enjoyment, Peregrine is best read following the events of Clutch, Bond, Mate, Swallow, Magpie, and Finch.

Series: (Kraken's Cult Book 1)
Author(s): Kaye Draper
Length:

Genre: Romance / Urban Fantasy / RH

Notes: Next up!

Blurb: Half kraken, half fae Environmental Police Agency enforcer Iolani Lionheart has everything a person could ever want—looks, money, family connections, power, more degrees and certifications than she can count…. Too bad that’s all anyone ever wants her for. Io is a fling, a means to an end, an asset to be used and tossed aside. Too intimidating, too arrogant and eccentric, she’s not someone you keep. But what her clingy kraken and indulgent fae natures want more than anything is a mate (or mates) to hoard.

After her most recent power-hungry lover betrays her, Iolani is fed up and desperate to get away. An ocean-side investigation in Florida sounds like a great way to get her mind off her moping and get some much-needed saltwater rest and relaxation. She might even find a fun partner to help her forget the latest disaster of a relationship. But of course, nothing is that easy.

The simple pollution case she’s investigating turns out to be more complicated that she had hoped, one of her exes returns to haunt her, and the cute water nymph barista she’s been wooing might be unable to accept Io’s fluid gender and intimidating family—just like so many others before her.

Would anyone blame her if Io just started eating everyone who pissed her off?

The Kraken’s Cult series takes place in the same universe as the Gesa’s Menagerie and Gods and Demons series, but with a new cast of characters. This series takes place thirty years after the events in Gods and Demons, in a world where supes are (mostly) integrated with human society. While reading the previous series might give you a deeper experience or insight into side characters, Kraken’s Cult is also able to be read as a standalone series.

Series: Countdown, 1
Author: K-lee Klein
Length:

Genre: Romance / Contemporary / Gay

Notes:

Blurb: Matteo and Gabe have everything they could ever want out of life, except a family of their own. When Gabe's bossy twin sister offers to be their surrogate, it's too good to turn down. But with his sister running the show, the new dads-to-be begin to wonder if they're going to survive the nine-month countdown.

Originally published in 2012 - this is a total rewrite with a new cover.

Series: Familiar and the Mage
Author: Honor Raconteur
Length: 295 pages

Genre: Epic Fantasy / Sword and Sorcery

Notes:

Blurb: While Bannen had every intention of finding adventure, being yanked through a magical portal two continents away isn’t quite what he imagined happening. For that matter, being magically bound to a mage-in-training hadn’t ever crossed his mind.

Being the first human familiar ever summoned in Corcoran? Not on his to-do list.

Rena certainly needs all of the help that she can get, as her magic is very different, inhibiting her of the normal shields and protections. Everyone says her summoning a human familiar is a mistake, that she needs to break the bond and send Bannen back.

But Bannen doesn’t like this idea, not one iota. Renata Rocci has the magic of a Grim Reaper, the heart of a lion, and a body too frail to keep up with either. She can face assassins; meddlesome mages; politicians; and legendary, nightmarish monsters without flinching. Without losing and that’s sexy as sin.

This is definitely not the adventure he signed up for.

It’s far, far better.

Thank you for stopping by and reading!!
