BLURB

Zeke Gulden is a ruthless Wall Street exec. His hard-edged, no non-sense attitude has served him well in the cutthroat business world, but less so in his personal life. When he finds out his ex-boyfriend cheated on him with a coworker, Zeke can’t let go – not until he finds a way to get even. However, his meddlesome father has other ideas. The new hire at the family-owned bagel store is somewhat colorful, but his dad is sure he’s the perfect man for Zeke.

Benny Ruggieri is a fiercely proud New Yorker who dreams of making it big as a costume designer in the theatre. In the meantime, he’s working two part-time jobs in the food biz. When his new boss sets him up with his successful son, Benny has zero expectations. If nothing else, he figures he can entertain himself by making the uptight businessman squirm. Instead, the two become unlikely friends with an inexplicable attraction they can’t ignore. Benny might be the one to help Zeke set aside his quest for revenge, if he’s willing to let go and forgive what he can’t forget… and give in to an unexpected kind of romance.

What Covers Catch My Eye #LexiFunFacts

I was book browsing... Ha-ha! Nothing unusual there. So, I was just browsing websites to see if anything new had been added or possibly for an older book that I'd missed before, and I noticed there was a trend. The books I always stopped to look at had something in common. Color.

It didn't matter what genre, and I didn't always buy them, but I stopped to read the title and the blurb. You always hear about how a book cover is the best advertisement you can have for your work, and I'd have to agree the adage is true. Stopping to look at something that is eye-catching is the first step to drawing someone closer to your work.

Now, I've liked covers others think are unattractive. For instance, I adore illustrated covers. I'll always stop and look at them, but I know people who don't like the look of illustrations. I think it's like art. Some people love Picasso, and I just twist my head to the side and squint. I, myself, would rather stand and stare at a Bev Doolittle original.

I was aware I stopped for the covers that were drawn, but those were the only ones I really noticed catching my attention. It wasn't until that particular browsing session a couple of days ago I notice I kept clicking on the covers that had a similar theme, but with something different. Even if I had already read the book, I stopped to look at the cover, sometimes making a mental note to see if the author had something new out or I wanted to reread.

Then I started paying attention to other covers that drew my eye. I determined I have a simple pallet. I like the blues as you can see above. Those were covers that made me stop and look. One I'd already read, the other I remembered I bought, and one I hadn't seen before and I clicked the link to look at the blurb. When I noticed the other colors that made me stop, reds and purples were high up on the list.

I know nothing about the colors and what they mean. Well, red is supposed to be the color of passion and green is supposed to be soothing. I read somewhere that green tablecloths helped people to eat less when they sit down for a meal.

Now, I don't know if the same colors cause other people to stop and look. I imagine personal affinities would have something to do with someone's preferred pallet. My mother and sister both like purple. I enjoy primary colors. Obviously.

The cover also conveys a certain feeling for the book. When I'm looking for sci-fi there are space ships or planets in the background. Contemporary Action/Adventure usually has a character looking badass with a gun and a look of grim determination. Fantasy books have that ethereal feel or a character holding something magical in their hands. MC Romances have a motorcycle or a man in a club cut on the cover.

Titles play a big part in telling the reader what genre the book is, but to be honest, for me, I don't see the title first. The cover type is what snags me. First color, then elements like the people and backgrounds, then finally, I'll read the title and author name. After that comes the blurb and reviews, if there are any. These last two factors are ultimately what I use to decide if I'll invest in the story. But it always starts with the art stopping my scrolling.

Funnily enough, I buy way more books than I can read in a month's time. It's an ongoing struggle. Sometimes I'll swear I'm going to buy as I go, but that only happens every once in a while.

Another Lexi Fun Fact, once I purchase the book, I rarely re-read the blurb again. Looking at the cover is what usually decides if I'm going to crack that bad-boy open. :)

I've attached some more of the covers that caught my eye during my search. Some of them I already own but I stopped and looked anyway. I wish blogger would allow me to put them side-by-side. What a bummer, but you can enjoy them anyway.

Blog Tour: Interview with Grein Murray author of His Fallen Angel #giveaway @Grein_Murray

BT_Banner

Welcome all. Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Grein Murray author of His Fallen Angel. Hi Greg, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself and your background?

So, what have you written? The Joshua series, I Have You (which is a spin off that follows two characters from the Joshua books, Capturing Oliver and His Fallen Angel

How much research do you do? Even before I became a writer, I was interested in Angels. I have read a lot of articles and books that spoke of angels even before Christianity. My favorite, Archangel Michael makes an appearance in my book. If a topic interest me, I research it thoroughly.

Why do you write? I love to daydream and certain places or people can trigger a story or character in my mind. I love shaping characters and telling their stories to my readers.

Where do you see publishing going in the future? I sadly think that paper books will be a thing of the past which is a shame. Technology is taking over in so many areas.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers? If you have a story in your head, write it out. I never thought I’d be an author and here I am talking about my 6th book. You don’t know if you don’t try, so go for it!

For your own reading, do you prefer ebooks or traditional paper/hard back books? Paper/hard cover books. It probably sounds crazy, but I love the feel and smell of real books. If I read an ebook I really enjoy, I usually end up buying it on paperback if its’ available.

How do you think you’ve evolved creatively? I’ve learned quite a bit since my first book. I think I’ve gotten better at writing about what the characters are feeling. I like to form a picture in my reader’s minds of what I’m seeing and I hope I accomplish that.

How can readers discover more about you and you work? My author page at Amazon. http:// www.amazon.com/Grein-Murray/e/B0110SQWES/  or look me up on FB and I’d love to talk to you! https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100009477305727

As help comes from an unlikely ally, Alexander isn’t sure if he should trust Roman or not—but what choice does he have?

Excerpt

I made sure that I ate my ice cream as seductively as I could until it was gone. Roman tossed the rest of his cone into some nearby bushes. “Why’d you….” I didn’t finish. I was dragged off the trail and stopped when Roman abruptly came to a halt. He looked down at me with a playful grin. There, in front of me, was a cropping of fallen trees. Roman pushed me toward them, then he started removing my pants and hoodie.

Winner Announcement for the Five Senses Blog Tour

Yesterday I was having a slew of problems with my computer and ran behind on getting this rafflecopter giveaway taken care of. But I won the arm wresting match this morning and was able to get the emails out to the winners.

I wanted to thank everybody who stopped by for the autism awareness tour. RJ Scott works hard to get the tour set up every year. I've had a ton of fun participating these last several years. This year I attempted a 'short story' with some side characters from Salvaging Toby's Heart. I say attempted because those who know me well get that I have a hard time writing anything under 40k. Most times, it's nigh impossible because my imagination runs away with me and I choose to ride along without reins. I'm pleased I was able to keep the story short and something that is complete for now.

I hope you had a great time with the tour, and thanks, once again, for stopping by the blog and reading. Have an awesome Monday!

AboutTheBook

LearningToLove-600x900
TITLE: Learing To Love

AUTHOR: Felice Stevens

COVER ARTIST: Reese Dante

LENGTH: 150 Pages

RELEASE DATE: May 2, 2016

BLURB: After ten years away from home, bad boy caterer Gideon Marks has a lot to prove. Getting the holiday catering job at his childhood synagogue is the first step in demonstrating to everyone he didn’t turn out to be the failure they predicted. What he doesn’t count on is Rabbi Jonah Fine, his high school nemesis and secret crush, stirring up old feelings Gideon thought long gone and secrets he’s buried deep for years.

An unexpectedly passionate encounter shocks Gideon, but he pushes Jonah away, convinced he isn’t good enough to be in a relationship and would never be accepted by Jonah’s father. But Jonah hangs tough—he won’t allow Gideon to hide or run away from life again. And when it comes to love, Gideon learns the most important lessons aren’t always taught in school.

 Excerpt

“You realize we always talk about me, but I know nothing about you and what you’ve done for the past ten years.” I stood at my kitchen counter and after debating a moment, grabbed the flour. Not that I wanted to show off, but having Jonah here to cook for was an unexpected treat, and I might as well make him some biscuits to go along with the omelet. “What happened when you went to law school? Why did you really leave?” I turned on the oven to preheat it for the biscuits.

I poured the flour into a bowl, mixed in baking soda, baking powder, and salt, then crumbled the shortening mixture with my fingers, all the while waiting to hear about Jonah’s life. He lay stretched out on my sofa, as supremely comfortable as a cat in a patch of sunlight, and with a pang I wished this could be any normal Saturday for us—me making breakfast in the kitchen while chatting with Jonah.

He turned over on his stomach as I finished the dough and floured the marble slab I’d splurged on. I’d done this for so many years it was all second nature now and I could concentrate on Jonah.

“Like I said before, I hated it. I’m not a competitive person by nature; I never needed to be the best or number one.” He laid his cheek on his hands and stared off into space. “But I’d been dating someone, and we started getting into silly arguments about summer jobs and where we’d like to apply.”

I’d never imagined myself the jealous type, and realistically I understood Jonah was no virgin, but if the painful twist in my stomach at the thought of anyone else touching or kissing Jonah was any indication, I was in deep shit.

“Oh?” My voice remained neutral, but I was busy kneading the life out of the poor dough. Since it had never done anything personally to me, I willed myself to calm the hell down and set about rolling it out for the biscuits. “Were you two that serious?”

“Ben and I? Not really. He thought so and wanted more, but I made it clear from the beginning I wasn’t going to fall in love with him. I cared for him deeply and felt badly I couldn’t give him what he wanted.”

“What was that?” I jammed the biscuit cutter into the dough with sharp angry jabs.

“My heart.”

My hand stilled on the biscuit cutter, and I looked over at him. He met my gaze unflinchingly, and I could feel the heat rise in my face.

“Why not?” I had to ask.

Jonah stood and joined me in the kitchen, hemming me in against the counter. I admit to not putting up too much resistance, but it still took me by surprise.

“I was keeping it for when I met you again.” He cupped my cheek in his hand. “No matter what I would’ve ended up doing with my life, Gideon, finding you was always part of my plan.”

What could I say to that? Jonah’s words rolled around in my head like brilliantly colored marbles, setting off a kaleidoscope of emotions that scared the hell out of me.

I sidestepped out of his embrace, muttering, “I have to get these biscuits in the oven,” and grabbed the cookie sheet. My back was to Jonah, shielding my badly shaking hands gripping the pan. I placed the biscuit dough on the sheet and slid it into the oven. The familiarity of being in my kitchen and cooking balanced me, and I was grateful that Jonah, most likely having sensed my unease, had returned to the living room and his place on the sofa. Once he left the kitchen I found it easier to breathe.
