Guest Post: Whippersnapper by Michael Rupured w/ #giveaway

BT_Banner

Whoot!  Michael Rupured is a guest today, talking about his new release, Whippersnapper, from Dreamspinner Press.

Whippersnapper: So Much Food

Whippersnapper is a contemporary May-September romance set in Fallisville—a made up town in Central Kentucky. It’s a heartwarming story filled with humor, surprising plot twists, and interesting characters. A lot of the story revolves around food.

Whippersnapper is a story about relationships—including relationships with food. Tellumo Magnamater was raised in a vegetarian, ultra-feminist household by his lesbian mothers. He eats healthy most the time. The gym, a relaxing bath, and sleep are his only escapes from his demanding job.

Oliver Crumbly hits the gym four or five times a week to help him keep off the thirty pounds he had to lose for his health. He has a passion for gay history and distrusts anything—and anyone—less than thirty years old. Single again and not used to cooking, he’s creative and inventive in the kitchen, with sometimes-disastrous results.

Middle-aged Peggy Tucker is a domestic goddess who loves to sew and takes great pride in her cooking ability. She has no children and worries about what will happen to her recipes after she’s gone to meet her maker. She joined the gym to lose weight toward her goal of finding another husband—a man like the handsome older man she sees at the gym—Olive Crumbly.

Other than Oliver’s more inventive creations, the dishes served up in Whippersnapper are real. Watch my blog for some of the recipes.

TITLE: Whippersnapper

AUTHOR: Michael Rupured

PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press

COVER ARTIST: Maria Fanning

LENGTH: 220 Pages

GENRE: Contemporary

RELEASE DATE: January 29, 2016

BLURB: Tellumo Magnamater is a fresh-out-of-college, first-year English teacher at Salt Lick County High School in Kentucky. He rides the bus to and from work, and every day he walks to the gym behind his small efficiency apartment to exercise. Perhaps because of being raised by two lesbians, Tellumo is attracted to older men. He sets his sights on fifty-something available bachelor Oliver Crumbly. But Tellumo isn’t the only resident interested in Oliver.

Peggy Tucker, a widow approaching her sixtieth birthday, is determined to marry again, and she thinks Oliver is her perfect match. Despite Tellumo and Peggy striking up a friendship at the gym, neither realizes they are interested in the same man. But the joke might be on both of them. Oliver, a retired history teacher, is the original crotchety old man who hates everything and everybody—especially young people.

Excerpt

Oliver Crumbly watched the Salt Lick County snowplow scrape the street in front of his house with a mixture of satisfaction and relief. Ten days of complaining had finally paid off. Two feet of snow had fallen in the day or two leading up to Christmas. A week later, before plows or salt trucks had reached Thoroughbred Acres, another six inches had fallen.

He’d been trapped at home since Christmas Eve. Worn treads had kept his Taurus from getting any traction on the flat street in front of his house. Driving out of the hilly subdivision would have been impossible.

Bill Pinkley, head meteorologist for local Channel 13, said El Nino or El Nina had caused the winter storm. Oliver couldn’t remember which, or why what happened so far away made a difference in the weather in Northern Kentucky, but if Bill Pinkley said so, it must be true. Heeding his advice to stock up on groceries ahead of the first flurries had kept Oliver from running out of food.

Thirty inches was a lot of snow to have fallen in a week’s time, and Calumet Circle was in the back of Thoroughbred Acres. Still, ten days was too long to wait for snow removal. Calls to the county road department had fallen on deaf ears. The surly customer service representative had hung up on him—four times. Miss Bethany Williams, Customer Service Representative II, was about to learn messing with Oliver Crumbly was a mistake. He’d mailed a lengthy letter detailing her incompetence and rude behavior to the director of the county road department with copies to the mayor, Oliver’s representative on the city council, and the Kentucky and U.S. Departments of Transportation.

Too bad Kevin Leonard had missed the blizzard. For eight years, Oliver’s ex had complained about the lack of winter snow. But then, nothing in Kentucky had suited Kevin. He’d grown up in the upper Midwest, where life was better in every way. Eight years of Kevin’s delusions of grandeur, condescending attitude, and manufactured facts had been a good four too many.

Oliver didn’t miss him one little bit. Not anymore. He dropped into his recliner, turned on the television, and flipped to the TV Guide Channel. His forty-eight-year-old ex had returned to North Dakota last February to live with his parents, and according to a mutual friend, was still unemployed. Because Mr. and Mrs. Leonard had often driven their camper down to Kentucky for weeklong visits, Oliver knew them a lot better than he’d have preferred. In his opinion, the sorry son and his parents deserved each other.

The viewing options scrolling on the screen at a snail’s pace failed to keep his attention, and his mind wandered. Falling for the wrong guys was Oliver’s gift. The first time his heart had been broken, he’d believed he would die. But he’d lived to love again… and again… and again… and again. Five times he’d survived a broken heart and the end of yet another relationship gone bad. Getting over kicking men out of his life had grown easier with experience. After Kevin left, Oliver’s battle-scarred heart had healed in record-breaking time.

Back at his beloved stomping grounds, Zak is ready to say hello and goodbye one last time. Love, adventure and a steaming good time.

As the French army leader’s bastard son, Cornelius Stevens enjoys a great deal of latitude. But when he saves an enemy soldier using clockwork parts, he’s well aware he risks hanging for treason. That doesn’t worry him half as much, however, as the realization he’s falling for his patient.

Johann Berger never expected to survive his regiment’s suicide attack on Calais, much less wake up with mechanical parts. To avoid discovery, he’s forced to hide in plain sight as Cornelius’s lover—a role Johann finds himself taking to surprisingly well.

When a threat is made on Cornelius’s life, Johann learns the secret of the device implanted in his chest—a mythical weapon both warring countries would kill to obtain. Caught up in a political frenzy, in league with pirates, dodging rogue spies, mobsters and princesses with deadly parasols, Cornelius and Johann have no time to contemplate how they ended up in this mess. All they know is, the only way out is together—or not at all.

Warning: Contains tinkers, excessive clockwork appendages, and a cloud-sweeping tour of Europe. A little absinthe, a little theft, a little exhibitionism. Men who love men, women who love women, and some who aren’t particular.

If he had his way, he’d just vanish into the mountains and live out his life as the black bear he yearns to shift into. Unfortunately, Jagger doesn’t have the time to let his beast run. He has responsibilities that he can’t walk away from.

Kevin Kelly could tell Jagger a thing or two about bad days, bad years, and just out and out bad luck. There’s not an area of his life that hasn’t been screwed up in one way or another. As a pronghorn shifter, he’d be okay on his own in the wild. But Sar is apparently a genius with a hidden face and big expectations. Sar wants Jared to learn to fight, he expects Jared to serve his sexual needs, and to socialize with Sar’s friends. So while Jared works on his stances and apparently can’t get enough of sex, he still has trouble cheerfully conversing with the same men who would rather kill him or claim him for their own.

Next!! Out With The Old, In With The New #ReleasingChaos

For a good portion of January, I was deep in  first round of edits for the second book of my ION series, Werewolf's Tale and a Druid Sword. The first book in that series, Ruby Red Booty Shorts and a Louisville Slugger will be released this coming March. Whoot!

So working on the second book (Werewolf's Tale for short because I detest using the initials WTaaDS) was a bit of an eye opener. Between the time submitted and when the ms came back to me, I'd grown--I know this happens. Over time, my writing will improve and will probably change and sometimes it's really evident, to me at least. When I return the manuscript it looks like the scene of a murder. Not that this is a bad thing, just frustrating. Honestly, I think I was spoiled with the ease of all the re-releases last year because the prose had already been picked over with a fine-tooth comb.

The funny thing was that even while I was strangling Werewolf's Tale, I was all like, "Oh, I'd forgotten how much I liked this ION world. I have a partially written standalone in this world that would be a piece of cake to finish in no time. Hot Damn!" BUT I couldn't do anything until I finished Death Mask for the Roughhouse Raiders submission call.

Imagine my excitement when I sent Death Mask out for beta review! Whoot! NEW PROJECT! I love starting new projects. It's almost as fun as going to the book store. Since I'm switching gears, I gather up all my world notes and the binders I hand wrote the majority of the story in, bind them together and put them away.

Then I pulled out the notes for the ION standalone. I don't have a name yet that I like. I've called it The Soul of an Animal Like Me and Soulless, but I don't like either one. Any way, the manuscript sits at 25k and I recall stopping at the halfway point, so piece of ca... Ugh, really?

I began the story 3-4 years ago and it shows. Odd starting point, terrible opening chapter, telling-telling-telling--where-the-hell-is-the showing...

Okay. So that was a no-go because I would basically be rewriting everything. A quicky it would not be. Since it wouldn't be fast and easy, then I pulled out Releasing Chaos, the last book for Sumeria's Sons. I winced when I looked at the date of the last change. I hadn't worked on it since June of last year--with good reason. Something(s) wasn't working and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. But fresh eyes are always good. Time and distance does wonders when figuring out the issues of a manuscript.

Right off the bat, I know I'm going to rewrite the intro scene. I'm hoping that I don't end up chucking all of the 31k, but I did do that with Dragon's Eye... 3 times. So we'll see. With this being the last book of the series, I want it to be the best one of the whole series. When you read  that last page, I want you to think, "Wow! That was so awesome!" Maybe even, "Holy crap, that was messed up!" Or "Why am I crying over an urban fantasy?" With what I have in mind, I think I can accomplish that but the issue is getting what is in my head onto paper--and to stop biting my nails to the quick over something I haven't written yet... LOL!

So Releasing Chaos is officially on the agenda. I'm also working on the first book of a series with Kenzie Cade, Devil's Heart. Sometime or another, I'm expecting edits for Darksoul (Yay!) Between those three February will be full and I'm not complaining. Wish me luck!

Thank you for stopping by and reading!!

Exclusive Excerpt (NSFW): Ross Deere - Handy Man by Hans M Hirschi w/ #giveaway

BT_Banner

I wanted to welcome Hans, to my blog. I'm excited to have an Exclusive Excerpt from his new erotic romance, Ross Deere -- Handy Man. I was lucky enough to have a table next to this sweet man at Rainbow Con 2015. LOL! He talked me into buying a couple of his books in no time. ;P

Exclusive Excerpt!

“It was like nectar. I’d never tasted anything like it before, and Andy’s cock reacted to the quick touch of my tongue by growing even faster, looking straight out and into my face. I couldn’t help myself. I had to take the shaft in my hand and part my lips to suck it into my mouth. I’d been down on girls once or twice, but I’d never done this with a guy, and it was driving me insane.

I must’ve been doing something right, because above me, Andy was moaning ecstatically. It was impossible to take all of his dick inside me. He was too big, and quite thick, too. I don’t have a small mouth, but this was like eating one of those huge burgers, where you really have to open your mouth as much as you could to get it all in. I loved every second of it. I was still crouching and had to get to a different position on my knees. My own cock was stuck and needed to be freed. With my right hand, I slipped off my dungarees and pulled it out of my shorts.”

  Excerpt

“Jason undid the towel and grabbed my balls with his right hand, gently cupping them, rolling them in his hand. “Do you like that?” I asked, continuing to kiss him.

“I’ve never done this before.”

“Suck my dick, go ahead,” I said, gently pushing his head down toward my throbbing cock. Jason obliged and started to suck my dick, like he was sucking a Popsicle at first, but after a couple of pointers, he quickly adjusted his style and proceeded to work on my dick like a pro. Soon, I had to literally lift him off my cock or I would’ve exploded right into his mouth.

“Wow, hang in there, buster. Give me a break. I was about to bust a nut, and you’re still fully clothed. Let’s see if we can change some of that.”

I started to unbutton his shirt and slid it off, revealing a hairless, flat chest. Nerd, right. He’d never lifted anything heavier than a book in his life. Jason opened his slacks and slid them off. He was white Fruit of the Loom briefs underneath.

You can’t make this shit up, can you?

I’m an author. I write books. I write about things that are important to me: family, parenting, children, our environment, our world. Contemporary, fresh fiction with happy endings. It’s what I like to read myself. I write because I don’t have a choice. There are so many stories in my head, constantly forming, constantly trying to get out. Feel free to have a look on the other pages to learn more, listen to me narrate from those stories, and – if you like what you see or hear – follow the links to buy the books. I’d greatly appreciate that, as this is how I try to make my living.

I’m an author. But I’m also a forty something male who clings to the illusion of still being twenty-seven, despite my body’s daily reminders to the contrary. I’m married to the most amazing man, and together we have a beautiful son, Sascha. I consider myself a citizen of the world, having lived on two continents and traveled extensively through another three. I have friends all over the world. When I’m not writing, I like to do public speaking or training (where I have my professional background) to actually earn some real bill-paying money. Not sure this author thing is ever going to get me there…
