What's on the Reading Radar? #TBR #WishList

What's up! I've missed posting the Reading Radar the last couple of weeks for a combination of reasons which boils down to lack of time. My sister visited with her kids. A heat wave and power outage were here at the same time. LOL! But we enjoyed our time despite everything.

I haven't done a lot of reading so this Radar will be about the books I'm anticipating and they have either just released and on the TBR or are releasing soon and on the Wish List.

Series:
Author: Evelyn Benvie
Length: 328 pages

Genre: Fantasy / Biromantic / Graysexual /

Notes: I'll be honest, even though the idea for the book sounded nice, I haven't been in the mood for fantasy. On a whim, I read the review on Amazon and the reviewer was nice enough to include the tags of biromantic and graysexual and heaps of sarcasm. That clenched it for me. It's now waiting for me and I'm looking forward to tackling it.

Blurb: Kell Hồ Sinh Porter is twenty-six years old and desperate to leave his unhappy life and his dead-end town.

One night his wish is granted by a mysterious voice—though not in any way he would've imagined—and he finds himself in the semi-magical land of Allune where everyone thinks he’s the “Chosen One.” Kell politely disagrees, and absconds from his duties. On the search for an adventure that doesn’t come with world-saving responsibility attached, he’s joined by companions. Every adventurer needs them, but his turn out to be Ansel, a sheltered fallen angel, and Fre, a half-orlk who wants to be a hero.

Destiny, bad luck, and the gods conspire against him. The Dawn Goddess wants him to take up his Chosen One mantle, which Kell is sure means becoming cannon fodder in an ancient divine war. The Lich King’s demonic minions carry out sporadic attacks in an attempt to kill him and prove he is not the Chosen One. Temperamental elves, talking stars that aren't all that helpful, image-conscious demons, maddening pieces of prophecy that everyone thinks Kell should already know, and his growing feelings for Ansel all mix in a frustrating stew as Kell tries to juggle his feelings, his duties, and all the things trying to kill him. No one asked him if he wanted to be anyone's Chosen One, and he can't begin to understand why he was chosen.

Kell needs to figure out who to trust and how to forge his own path before it's too late for Allune and for him.

Series: Variant Configurations, 1
Author: Angel Martinez
Length: 260 pages

Genre: Slow Burn Romance / Futuristic Sci-Fi / Gay

Notes: I did read this book a while ago when it was published elsewhere and enjoyed it. From what I understand, the story has undergone some expansion and rewrites so I'm really looking forward to a reread/rediscovery of the story. This releases on the 28th!

Blurb: Variant children are vanishing at an alarming rate. It will take a uniquely mismatched pair of trackers to untangle a web of conspiracy and misdirection to find them.

In his isolated cabin, variant Damien Hazelwood avoids human contact as much as possible to prevent attacks of blind berserker panic. But his rare talent as a locator makes him the go-to contractor for tricky missing person's cases and when agents bring him a troubling contract involving missing variant children, he finds it impossible to refuse.

Licensed tracker Blaze Emerson can't help being irritated when he's expected to follow the strange, twitchy locator's lead on his latest case. He works alone, he's damn good, and as a variant sparker, he has both the fire and the firepower to take on anything out there. Though he has to admit there's something intriguing about a man who can find people with his brain.

With vastly different temperaments and backgrounds, Damien and Blaze need to negotiate quickly how to work together if they're going to crack this case. Add in the sudden appearance of Blaze's outlaw ex, the perils of tracking in the wilds, and a maddening lack of discernible motive or method, and they soon find themselves in as much danger as the kids they're trying to rescue.

Variant Configurations takes place in a future Earth where humanity is reclaiming its spot in a gradually healing world. This book contains mentions of past abuse, action-adventure style mayhem, and the beginning sparks of a slow burn, series-spanning relationship.

Series: (The Next Generation Book 4)
Author:
Length: 324 pages

Genre: Romance / Sci-Fi / Gay

Notes: This is the last book in the spin-off and promises to be angsty. I'm taking the trigger warnings seriously and will hold on to this when I feel I ready to dive in.

Blurb: A brief moment in time can change everything.

Laken Fihk has no idea his destiny waits for him on the Unity, a Tah’Narian starship. But all it takes is one look at the incapacitated male, and Laken knows that’s his fated mate. Which is a problem, because the severely beaten, bloody, and unconscious male is the Blishue warrior named Torin. The species is considered sadistic, cruel, and without mercy—bloodthirsty monsters who kill without regard.

No one, absolutely no one, is going to be happy if Laken claims Torin as his.

Torin, member of the Blishue House of Dorntok, has found his mate and nothing will stop him from claiming Laken. So what if he has Tah’Narians doubting his honor, Ne Reynians wanting to kill him, and a battle brewing that could jeopardize all he holds dear? War has bound them together, and nothing can break them apart. He and Laken will overcome all obstacles to find a love that could last a lifetime. No matter what.

Destiny doesn’t make mistakes.

Trigger Warnings: violence, mention of past sexual abuse and rape, flashbacks

Series: Murder Sprees and Mute Decrees, 2
Author: Jennifer Cody
Length:

Genre: Romance / Urban Fantasy / Gay

Notes: This releases on July 8th. I've already cleared my calendar.

Blurb: Romily:

You know what I’d like to know? Where the hell my romantic, how-we-got-engaged story is. Am I going to get it any time soon? Where is my bigass diamond?

Unfortunately, all that relationship angst gets put on hold when my beloved son, Bellamy, is abducted by a werewolf-ish person I kinda like. Am I going to get my kid back? You betcha. The question is, how many people does Fox have to kill first?

The Trouble With Trying to Save an Assassin is the second book in the Murder Sprees and Mute Decrees Series. It's a 60k word M/M Paranormal Romance with plenty of sass, gore, and questionable decision-making skills, and now there are tiny tables too.

Series: (Tempting Monsters Book 2)
Author: Kathryn Moon
Length: 516 pages

Genre: Erotic Romance / Historical Fantasy / Mystery / RH

Notes: I enjoyed the first book in this series and wasn't sure I wanted to continue since I wasn't interested in the theatre company, especially when the first book had some sadomasochistic play. That's just not my thing but since there are several partners, it wasn't even a quarter of the sexual encounters, so I decided I would give this one a try. It recently released and is pretty long. I did start it last night and only made it to about the 25% mark. I am struggling with the FMC who is closed off (for good reason) and doesn't know when to trust (for good reason). I keep reminding myself of the 'good reasons' 'cause I'm ready for the relationships to solidify. :)

Blurb: After eight years on the stage with The Company of Fiends, the glow of the spotlight is starting to wear thin for Hazel Nix. The theater is perfect for a girl like her—one with a secret she keeps even from her more monstrous peers—but playing pretend is only exciting for so long. After so many lovers, on stage and otherwise, Hazel has yet to make a lasting connection with anyone and considers taking her last bow at the company.

Just as Hazel encounters a new and intriguing patron, disaster strikes the theater. Girls are going missing and suspiciously bad luck plagues the stage. Between ex-lovers, current bed partners, and new faces at the theater, Hazel’s heart is tangled more than ever and she finds it increasingly impossible to draw herself away from the life she’s known for so long.

It is time to make a choice. Start fresh before she’s drawn into the mess, or take a stand and fight for the family she’s found in the strangest of places.

Thank you for stopping by and reading!
