What's on the Reading Radar? #read #TBR #WishList

What's going on? Well, Cherish is back with the editor and I'm working on my next project. I've been having a tough time relaxing, so I feel like I've been as erratic as one of the squirrels in my backyard. Up and down. Up and down.

Series: (Quest Investigations Book 1)
Author: E.J. Russell
Length: 202 pages

Genre: Mystery / Slow Burn Romance / Paranormal / Gay /

Notes: This hit the spot for me. A bit of mystery, a bit of action, and the complications of a human in the know. I have read other books in Russell's word here and there. Definitely not all of them or in order. You don't have to read any of those books to understand or follow along in this one.

Blurb: Something’s definitely fishy about this case…

On my last stakeout for Quest Investigations, I nearly got clotheslined by a grove of angry dryads. I expected my bosses to reprimand me, but instead they handed me my first solo assignment. Me! Matt Steinitz, the only human on the Quest roster!

Okay, so the mission isn’t exactly demanding. Obviously, the bosses wanted to give me something they think I can’t screw up. I’m determined to show them what I can do, however, so I dive right in with no complaints.

At first glance, it looks as simple as baiting a hook: A selkie’s almost-ex-husband is vandalizing his boat with unwanted deliveries of deceased sea life. All I have to do is document the scene, tell the ex to cease and desist, and present the bill for property damages. Boom. Mission accomplished, another Quest success, and as a bonus, I get to keep my job.

But then things get…complicated. Suspicious undercurrents muddy up my oh-so-easy case. Nothing is as clear as it should be. And the biggest complication? My inappropriate attraction to the client, who may not be as blameless as he claims.

Turns out those dead herrings aren’t the only things that stink about this situation.

Dammit.

Five Dead Herrings is the first in the Quest Investigations M/M paranormal mystery series, a spinoff of E.J. Russell’s Mythmatched paranormal rom-com story world. It contains no on-page sex or violence, and although there is a romantic subplot, it is not a romance.

Series: (Arcane Hearts Book 1)
Author: Nazri Noor
Length: 252 pages

Genre: Romance / Urban Fantasy / Gay

Notes: I've been waiting for this one.

Blurb: What do you do when you can’t cast spells? You make your own magic.

Jackson Pryde was never great at wielding magic. Instead, he works as an artificer, crafting enchanted devices in the Black Market, a shadowy bazaar of wonders. But Xander Wright, the mouthy, pretentious mage next door, hates all the hammering in Jackson’s workshop.

When a chance assignment forces them to team up, they discover a terrifying predicament. Something is driving members of the magical community into murderous rages. Jackson and Xander must combine might and magic to find the source of the Fever and stop it. Can they put aside their differences long enough to end the Fever, or will they succumb to its bloodthirsty curse?

A Touch of Fever is a 70,000-word M/M urban fantasy romance with a HFN ending. Join a fast-talking artificer and a snarky sorcerer, best friends turned bitter enemies, as they navigate an adventure filled with strange flora, mythical fauna, and magical murders. If you like your urban fantasy with humor, horror, and a whole lot of heart, you’ve come to the right place. Experience A Touch of Fever today.

Series: (A Kitsune Chronicles Story Book 1)
Author: Lissa Kasey
Length: 368 pages

Genre: Romance / Urban Fantasy / Gay

Notes: So I read this a while back and bought the series as it released but didn't stay caught up. I also bought the audio so I reread as a refresher. Great story. It reminds me of a mashup of evil fae lore (except Robin) and a horror gothic take on out of control/rabid werewolves along with things that reminded me of Brigg's Moon Called and Alpha & Omega.

Blurb: Fate has given them an ultimatum: bond or die.

A fox raised among wolves, Sebastian has spent his life fighting to survive. His skills with magic, his quick wit and instincts, all keep him on the move until fate leads him to Liam.

Alpha werewolf, Liam, is everything Sebastian has spent his entire life avoiding. But there’s a magic between them, a spark of something beyond a fox or a wolf; an awakening energy. But when Seb’s past catches up, a darkness arises none of them know how to fight.

Can the two of them find a way to work together to defeat rogue wolves, fae monsters, and a couple of demons bent on destruction?

Warning: Mentions of past partner abuse, blood, and violence.
Updated to add short Epilogue about Nicky. Please update your file if you don't have the epilogue yet.
