What's on the Reading Radar #wishlist #TBR

What have I been doing? Working on Constant, but I need to make time to write another chapter for Assassin's Retirement, otherwise I'll fall behind... again.

I came across a really cool review for Releasing Chaos earlier this week. It gave me the warm and fuzzes. <3 (See Review Here)

I have been a little frustrated with my reading selection. Either the samples aren't interesting me enough to push me to go ahead and buy the book, or they are interesting and I buy the book only to land at around 40% thinking, "This hero/heroine is a terrible person." When a person is proficient at name calling and putting people down, especially with someone who is supposed to end up as a love interest... that isn't cute or clever. They are just an abusive person. I'll give a pass for the hero/heroine calling the villain a name or two, but when the character does do it to the majority of the people they interact with, yeah that just makes them a bad person and in some cases a bully. There is nothing strong or attractive about that.

Okay, I guess I needed to get that out. I've had a lot of reading busts this week and I ended up reading a zombie apocalypse book which was okay. It has a love triangle with her deciding between two brothers. I'm not a fan of love triangles but it was better than hateful characters or utterly depressing beginnings.

That was the other thing that had me DNFing within the first 10%. Since my recent purchases were unsatisfying, I went to my TBR and pulled a few down and they all started out with a horrific tragedy. One of them, the boy of 10 watched his father's head getting chopped off. Nope. Nope. Nope. Not in the mood in the slightest.

So, let's see what I have on the wishlist...

 Title: The Emperor's Mask
Series: Magebreakers, 2
Author(s): Ben S. Dobson
Length: 237 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Non-Romantic / Fantasy / Steampunk / Dragons & Magical Creatures /

Note: The first book, The Flaw In All Magic, was pretty good. It saved my week from being a total reading-dud. Kadka is AWESOME. Just saying.

Blurb: A killer walks among the rich and powerful. Who can the Magebreakers trust?

Someone is killing the non-magical members of Senate houses–those who might one day be named Protector of the Realm. And that same someone is leaving behind messages for the Magebreakers beside symbols of the shadowy organization known as the Knights of the Emperor. Under suspicion from the constabulary, Tane and Kadka are drawn into the investigation to prove their innocence.

What they find is that Audish politics are as dangerous as any Porthaven back-alley. Suddenly, they’re surrounded by the most powerful figures in the realm, every one with a different agenda. Telling allies from enemies has never been harder, but Tane and Kadka will have to find someone to trust if they’re going to bring the killer to justice.

Their lives–and the future of the Protectorate–depend on it.

The next two books are both Book One in the Bound in Blood and Shadows: Ruins of War. It appears that they are the same story, told from two different points of view. I thought it was an interesting concept, depending on how the story is told.

Title: War's Mate

Author(s): Taylor Rylan
Length: 191 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Paranormal / Bear Shifters / Warlocks / Fated Mates / Knotting / Mpreg /

Blurb: Growing up in a coven with only one other shifter around doesn’t allow Arik much of an opportunity to find his mate, and he doesn’t know when or where he’ll find him. When dreams about his mate start interrupting his sleep, he’s content to wait for them to find each other. That is, until he dreams that his mate is in danger.

Alpha War has all but given up on ever finding his true mate. He’s looked for centuries, but so far, no luck. Then when his den starts being attacked by the local coven, all thoughts of finding his mate leave his mind. He only wants to protect his den members like any alpha would.

When an altercation with the coven turns deadly, the last thing War expects is for his mate to appear out of thin air, literally. Arik knew his mate was in trouble so he got his twin to teleport the two of them to the place he’d been dreaming about.

War is happy to have found his mate but can he accept a union with another coven? He already has enough witch problems; will a coven of warlocks be any different? But can he really say no to his fated mate? Is Arik willing to leave his peaceful coven for a den full of chaos?

With problems lurking, babies coming, and warlocks “poofing” in and out at odd times, will War and Arik ever find time alone for sexy times?

War’s Mate is 40,000 words and is book one in the Honey Creek Den Series. Each book contains a fated mate pair, Mpreg, lots and lots of knotting during growly sexy times, babies, no cheating, and a HEA. These bears will do anything their mates ask, just read and see. The Honey Creek Den Series is meant to be read in order even though each book focuses on a different couple. This book is intended for adults only as these shifters tend to get growly and don’t watch their language.

Title: Alien Savior
Series: The Arathians
Author(s): Nicole Krizek
Length: 199 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Sci-Fi / Bisexual / Interspecies / Poly /

Note: I found this series because the latest release showed up in the LGBT section. I'm not a fan of the covers, but I enjoy bisexual poly romances. What decided it for me as I read the synopsis for each book was the humans eventually go to the other planet and step in and help them. Such a refreshing twist.

Blurb: This is the 2nd edition of Alien Savior. It’s been reworked, and now has an additional bonus chapter!

Lacy Woods thought that there could be nothing worse than being stolen from Earth by an alien poacher, until she’s thrust onto the auction block and sold as a slave on an alien planet. Standing on stage surrounded by the galaxy’s nastiest criminals, she has little hope.

Kor and Ty are a mated pair that have been searching throughout the galaxy for a species that can save their race from extinction. They never expected to come across a rare Earther female being auctioned as a slave. Unable to deny her exotic beauty, and a chance to test her DNA, they buy her. What the males don’t expect is the intense lust they feel for the small female and the protective urges that tell them to keep her safe at all costs.

When enemies close in on Earth, Lacy will need the Arathians’ help to protect her planet and the males she’s come to love.
Warning: Contains explicit HOT sex with multiple alien partners, bi-sexuality and homosexuality. m/f, m/m, m/m/f

Title: Trickery
Series: Curse of the Gods, 1
Author(s): Jaymin Eve, Jane Washington
Length: 376 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Fantasy / Magic / Gods / Humor / Poly / Bisexual /

Note: This kept getting recommended to me and I finally listened to the audio sample. It sounds nothing like I expected and bought the audiobook.

Blurb: Willa Knight: Dweller. Slave. Non-magical being.

In Minatsol, being a dweller means that you are literally no better than dirt. In fact, dirt might actually be more useful than Willa. Her life will be one of servitude to the sols, the magic-blessed beings who could one day be chosen to become gods.

At least her outer village is far removed from the cities of the sols, and she won’t ever be forced to present herself to them... Until one small mistake changes everything, and Willa is awarded a position to serve at Blesswood, the top sol academy in the world—a position that she definitely did not earn.

Under the sudden, watchful eye of the gods, she will be tasked to serve the Abcurse brothers, five sols built of arrogance, perfection and power. They are almost gods themselves, and under their service she is either going to end up sentenced to death, or else they are going to ruin her so badly that she will wish for it.

Either way, she is in trouble.

Thank you for stopping by an reading!!
