What's On The Reading Radar #TBR #WishList

This past week flew by. I fought off a cold but that also meant I didn't write as much as I wanted to on Bespoken. I'm going to try and make up time this weekend around appointments and visiting relatives.

This coming week on the blog will be busy. I have a guest everyday it seems like. I have a couple of my own blog posts to get done but those won't go up until a little later.

In the meantime, I'm still looking for reads for my Saturday Reading Radar posts. So if you have a recommendation, hit me with it. :)

Title: Nica's Legacy
Series: Hearts of Icarus, 1
Author(s): Laura Jo Phillips
Length: 271 pages
Publisher:

Genre: Romance / Sci-Fi / Paranormal /

Notes:

BlurbWhen the leading lights of high society on planet Apedra host their glittering three month social “season,” there’s nothing quite like it anywhere else in the Thousand Worlds. No visitor could help but be impressed by the formal dress balls, the beautiful mansions, the exquisite designer gowns, the sprawling country estates, and the glittering jewelry. And, let’s not forget the most memorable happening of the season: the series of brutal, blood-soaked serial murders.

Unfairly expelled from the elite ICARUS Academy for blocking her own powerful psychic abilities to screen herself from the unbearable pain of a searing tragedy from her past, Nica Vinia, sister of Arima Honor Vulpiran, travels to Apedra to visit with her long-time school friend, Bree, and spend the social season with her. Almost immediately, her expectations of a few light-hearted months of dancing and “girl time” go awry. First, her hopes of a restful vacation are disrupted by the presence of Bree’s strikingly handsome brother, Ian, with whom she feels an instant connection and sudden, powerful desire, but who appears to despise her on sight. Then, Nica finds out that the planet itself is dying for reasons its residents can’t understand, and that—in addition to the humans there—Apedra is inhabited by magical beings with ties both to Earth and to the shifter clans of Planet Jasan, Nica’s adopted homeworld. In addition, it is revealed to Nica that her psychic gifts may be the key to saving that entire world from becoming a desolate wasteland of rock and ice. And, as if that weren’t enough, there’s a rampaging serial killer on the loose who has Apedra’s first families in the cross-hairs with Bree as the possible next target.

With her friend’s life and the life of an entire world in the balance, Nica must confront and vanquish the pain of her past in order to fulfill the potential of her enormous gifts and liberate her emotions so that she can experience everything that love, and passion, have to offer.

Nica’s Legacy, a full-length 108,000 word novel, is the first volume of the “Hearts of ICARUS” series, the new fantasy novel arc from Laura Jo Phillips, author of the “Soul Linked Saga” and the “Orbs of Rathira” trilogy. While departing (to return in later volumes) from the reverse harem relationships for which her earlier books are known, Nica’s Legacy is still all Laura Jo Phillips--it blends futuristic fantasy, magic, romance, sensuality, adventure, intrigue, danger, and passion in to an exciting, emotional roller-coaster ride which will be cherished by Laura Jo’s current fans and by readers who are new to her work.

Title: Roughing the Passer
Series: An ESC Mavericks Novel
Author(s): Alison Hendricks
Length: 189 pages
PublisherLoveLight Press (October 24, 2016)

Genre: Romance / Contemporary / College Sports /

Notes:

BlurbThey couldn’t be more different, and yet they might just be exactly what each other needs.

Garrett Barnes is no stranger to overcoming the odds. Forced to walk away from a Division I scholarship to take care of his family, Garrett was sure he'd never play football again. When an offer comes in from the ESC Mavericks--a school near his hometown--it seems like a dream come true. There's only one catch: he's expected to single-handedly save the worst team in the state.

Diego Ruiz has known his whole life that the deck is stacked against him. The harder he tries to fight it, the more it hurts when it knocks him back down. With a lifetime of disappointment to back him up, he's stopped trying for anything more than mediocrity, both on and off the football field. If not for a promise he'd made years ago, he'd probably just be some nobody in a nowhere job.

So when Coach Ladner brings in some D1 "hero" to save the team, Diego is determined to show him exactly where hard work and perseverance get you--absolutely nowhere. Despite his best efforts, Garrett's unwavering optimism starts to get under Diego's skin. Caught on the verge of giving in, he relies on the one thing that's never failed him: his ability to get curious straight boys into bed.

As the friction between them gives way to passion, the stakes of their former rivalry increase tenfold. With both men's hearts--and a state title--on the line, there's no time for playing games. But when Diego's past comes back to remind him that everything eventually goes to hell, Garrett will have to convince him that some things are worth fighting for.

Roughing the Passer is a steamy, standalone gay romance novel with a HEA ending and no cliffhanger.

BlurbFor Gibben Nemesio, life hasn’t been easy.

Orphaned as a child and drafted into the army at thirteen, he’s no stranger to adversity. He’s fought hard for his coveted position as Seneschal Koal’s understudy and ever harder to make certain his young brothers live to see adulthood. Gib is prepared to sacrifice anything to ensure those closest to him, from his family and friends to his mentor and even the missing piece of his heart, remain safe.

But the stakes are higher than ever before. His beloved country, Arden, is in trouble. The new ruler has just sent the army to war. Gib's world is shattered anew as he finds himself marching toward a dark and uncertain fate in the faraway sands of Shiraz.

Even with so much to lose, Gib goes bravely. But bravery will only stretch so far in a hostile land prowled by ruthless raiders and other creatures too sinister to speak of—and all the courage in the world may not be enough to keep his family, friends, and Gib himself alive when they ride into battle.
